Doom Won't Run! Can Someone Help?

Oh. But would An NVidia GTX 750 get Doom to run?

A 750 Ti would, as long as you have at least a 300W power supply, two slots of space from your PCI-E, and more than 5.7 inches length in your case.

There's always another way! I WILL find it!

Yeah, the other way is you need a new computer.

You're not going to stop until you hear what you want to hear are you? If I say yes, the 750 can run Doom, how does that change the fact that you cannot power this card? I mean, you still need a new CPU, that i5 2k runs around 95 watts...and your GTX 750 video card is leaving your entire system with about 40 watts to work with. Why can you not understand this?
At this point, I want you to buy one so you can post another thread why you get nothing but a black screen when you turn your computer on. Then we can all laugh at you. At first I thought you legitimately wanted help but it appears you're willfully ignorant and seem to enjoy wasting everyone's time.

How do you know that my computer doesn't have enough power? Where can I find info on that in my system settings?

Your case is too small and your power supply is sub par (I believe you have a slim power supply and they can very rarely, if ever, be upgraded). That type of slimline system was never designed to be expanded upon, which rings true of pretty much an HP system really. You will need an entirely new computer.

It was shortly after you posted your system specs, that I looked up your model number on Hewlett Packard's website:

That model ships with a tiny, custom 220 watt power supply.

Will an NVidia GTX 670 graphics card work with a 220 watt power supply? Because that's the minumum graphics card needed to run Doom.

This is a GTX 670. It requires a full sized tower, two aux PCI-E 6 pin supplies and an overall 500W PSU.

Short answer: No chance in hell.
Alt-short answer: Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo-...

Alright I think we can wrap this up now, answering the same questions two or three times. We told you what you need to do, you need a new computer. You can piss, fight and moan all you want, doesn't change reality.

Ok, is not that hard, but i will tell you with a few points, why you need a new PC.

1)The PSU, is way too small. It is custom made by HP to fit the small case and it's made just to feed the standard configuration of the PC. So you need a new PSU, BUT since it's a small case once again custom made by HP, you won't find any PSU that will fit. So you CAN'T Upgrade the PSU.

2)The CPU is an old generation Dual Core, you are going to need a new CPU, but your motherboard only support 1155/H2 sockets, which means you are stuck with old Cpu. Unless you change your motherboard. But since it's a custom made case by HP, you are going to need a motherboard that's uATX and that fits in the case.

3)You need a new GPU, since you have an onboard GPU, but for that you need a new PSU, WHICH you cannot change. Also you cant fit the GPU in the case.

Listen don't feel bad, your PC is not a bad PC. When HP made that PC, they were not thinking in gaming. That PC was made for office type of work.

If you want to play Doom, you need to build a new PC. If you don't have a lot of money then look for AMD/ATI products.

The GTX 750 Ti consumes about 60W at full load (source: https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_GTX_750_Ti/23.html), and a Core i5-3550 is rated at a 77W max TDP (real world power consumption is likely to be less). Other components likely don't consume much.

I think the low profile GTX 750 Ti will work for the OP. Here is a thread in which somebody with the OP's exact system is able to get a 750 Ti to work just fine:

http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2683883/upgrade-computer-graphics-card-pavilion-slimline-s5000.html

I have a friend who has been using a low profile gtx 750 ti in his slimline s5-1554 on the stock psu for over a year without any problems. He did have to update his bios in order for the card to be recognized. I recommend doing the same on your machine as well.

Happy to help. I have dealt with these kinds of situations before, trying to get a pre-built system up to speed for gaming for friends on tight budgets. It can be tricky, but it can often be done.

The sad thing is: just a couple of weeks ago I retired two machines of mine...one with a rather rare EVGA X58 classified quad-sli Mainboard (with overclockable i7 in there, 16 GB RAM, and 4x GTX 480, all within an Lian Li Case, water cooled CPU, matchin PSU (damn hard to find back then) etc. pp.), and the other a Asus whatever with i7, 16 GB RAM, 1x 480 GTX etc.). I found NOONE who wanted them...not for money, but for nothing. I even asked schools if they have some kind of IT class...got some lukewarm answers about "we will ask the teacher", that was it.

Sometimes, it makes me sad how very good hardware has to go to the dumpster.

Jup, there is no meaningful way to get your machine to run Doom 2016. Even if, it will run in a state that you won't enjoy.

Sorry, that's the way it is.

Regarding building a new PC for Doom:
IF(!) you have the funds for it, not only I but I am quite sure some others here gladly walk you through the steps, and after the job is done (RIP AND TEAR!), you will say to yourself "hey, that wasn't too bad, everything went better than expected", but it will cost money.

As with most things in live, it depens on your budget. If I understand the thread correctly, you already registered the key, so returning it might not be an option? (else, there might be the option to buy a used console).

The sad thing is, these machines are now sitting at the exit door of my office, until I find time to dump them...sadly. I have no clue if a dual, tri- or quad-sli 480 GTX could run Doom 2016, but the board, CPU and RAM itself would be enough to jumpstart someone to get this stuff going, allthough it is "old" (six years?). I used one of those machines till last year for my driving simulator, by replacing the 480 with a 980.

Sometimes, it makes me sad how very good hardware has to go to the dumpster. I know that no sane person would run one, two or even four GTX 480 nowadays, as they used an amount of power and generated an amount of heat unheard off before and after (but that quad-sli machine was fun...the room got warm soooo fast).

It still saddens me when I read posts like this, and have to dump perfectly good hardware which I am quite sure would still drive many games for a couple of years, and (I am sure of that) even Doom 2016 if you drop in the right graphics card.

:(

Fully agree with you, drop a 980 or 1080 in that thing and you're back at running games at max with excellent fps.

You asking schools brought a smile to my face. You'd think schools would jump on that shit seeing how computers have been and will continue to be a requirement in our daily lives as technology and society progresses. When I was a kid in the 90s they welcomed computer donations and the teacher even disected one and explained all the parts

Hey, Plasma Gun. I found this cheap one on eBay, but I'm not sure if it comes with the proper parts. You seem to be an expert so could you check out this link and tell me if it's worth buying? Thanks. Here's the link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/351798046621

I'm just going to throw this out there. From the item description: “Cosmetic Condition:Not video output item.Missing all Accessories.will not power turn on. "See Pictures".sales as is for parts or repair only.”

So no, that one won't work.

And the one you linked is only a 1GB model. You need at least 2GB of memory on your GPU to run Doom. Plasma Gun said you'll need a GTX750 TI.

https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-750Ti-Graphics-02G-P4-3753-KR/dp/B00IDG3IDO

So you're looking at at least 109.00 for a new one.

Okay, edit again. This looks like it would work. Of course you'd have to win it.
