kuchitsu Posted May 26, 2016 I think many of us are familiar with this frustration when you get a crystal clear video through -viddump but then you upload it to YouTube and it becomes much worse due to their conversion or whatever. Has anyone found good recording settings that are fairly resistant to YouTube's conversion process? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Azuruish Posted May 26, 2016 Are you seriously? Even if you record video with 10000 Kb/s it's anyway will be converted into worse quality because it's youtube. Let's players always complains about it and no one can do anything with it. So deal with it! 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
SWDude Posted May 26, 2016 It also depends on which resolution you are recording. Its better to use glboom plus with max resolution to record in order to achieve best quality. Ive been using viddump in all videos and i think they are of decent quality(the ones which are recorded with max resolution). Neverthless as azuruish said it will be degraded a bit no matter what you do. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Vorpal Posted May 26, 2016 Recently, I think youtube reduced the bitrate for new incoming videos, as I had not changed my recording setup and noticed my new videos looked like total trash. This may be to push content creators to higher resolutions, since most TVs today are 1080p minimum and youtube/netflix are well on their way to crushing TV audience numbers. The currently recommended bitrate for 1080p is 8Mb/sec, which looks OK but noticeable compression artifacts. 12Mb/sec looks pretty good to me, but creates massive files to upload, so personally I record at 10Mb/sec to strike some comfortable middle-ground. On resolutions under 1080p, no amount of bitrate tinkering will produce a good doom video, they all turn into a blurry mess. e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhDMsfm9UEc - that was recorded at 1024x768 at something like 15Mb/sec, higher settings than my older doom videos, but the older ones look nicer. tl;dr record at 1080p as the absolute minimum, and 10Mb/sec (if using 35 fps engine cap for dat vanilla feel. If uncapped framerate then uhhh I dunno) 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
