TAPETRVE Posted June 10, 2016 While I'd argue that the overall tone of the soundtrack belongs into a Quake game more so than DOOM, it certainly works well enough for what it does. A modicum of industrial influences are pretty much inevitable, given the game's overall aesthetics. And with that said, if I were to direct the soundtrack, I'd probably go for something that resembles a less tinny version of the last Napalm Death album (in particular the intro, and less grind-heavy tracks), shifting between menacing, spiteful, and just plain frantic. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
MusicallyInspired Posted June 10, 2016 Two weeks later and "BFG Division" is still echoing away in my head... 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Koko Ricky Posted June 10, 2016 I think there are too many moments of amelodic phrases, intentionally scattered rhythms and glitchy ornamentation. This is all very intentional and inspired by two popular forms of aggressive music (d-jent and dubstep). I get it. But Doom is a fast game, and the barrage of sound effects clashes poorly with the noisy soundtrack. I would have liked to have heard a bit more structure, something that could make the tracks stand out. The orchestral sections for the exploratory or "quiet" bits is actually the best music in the game. It has tons of atmosphere and little phrases will stick with you. I've yet to experience a similar effect from the battle music. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
TAPETRVE Posted June 10, 2016 Reminds me: Now that every bloody 90s shooter is getting a remake or reboot, I want a new Powerslave. With music written by Karl Sanders (not Nile, but his solo project). 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
