Paul977 Posted June 20, 2016 Long list: John Romero, Jens Nielsen, Dario Casali, Milo Casali, Sverre André Kvernmo, Sam Woodman & Andy Oliveira (for their levels of HR2), Denis Möller, Jonas Feragen, Kim André Malde, Anders Johnsen. I didn't put more recent authors because I didn't played their wads but seeing some videos on youtube there are awesome authors nowadays indeed :) 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

GoneAway Posted June 21, 2016 The immediate ones that come to mind for me are: Mechadon Ribbiks Paul Corfiatis Michael Jan Krizik (valkiriforce) Also the BTSX crew of course, but I picked out Mechadon specifically for Unstable Journey from E2. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
XLightningStormL Posted June 21, 2016 I prefer realistic, techbase, bunker maps so Tom Hall is a go to, and by extension McGee. Romero is another one, and Sandy Petersen to some extent. The Casali Brothers and TNT Team did great jobs in Final Doom as well. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Fonze Posted June 21, 2016 This list is missing Richard Heath for his work on NRftL. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Azuruish Posted June 21, 2016 And no one mentioned here 'ArmouredBlood' and his masterpiece - Newgothic Movement 1 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Lud Posted June 21, 2016 I'd say Vader, Xaser, Icytux and maybe even Torm since he has some pretty nice maps. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
franckFRAG Posted June 21, 2016 If I had to choose two best mappers, I should like 2 in the past, 2 in the present, 2 in the future : In the past : Erik Alm / Eternal In the present : Skillsaw / Ribbiks In the future : Tourniquet / AD79 (promising mappers) 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Yugiboy85 Posted June 21, 2016 I'm gonna take franck's idea on this (sorry buddy hehe) and give out a few mappers from the past, present and future. Past: Erik Alm and Vader These guys trully inspired me to make doom maps. So yeah, I kinda "copied" their style (at least, attempted to) and well, it worked pretty nicely for me. Present: Paul "Skillsaw" Debruyne I know that I'm giving the rather easy choice but come on, I love his style hehe. I remember discovering the dude back when I played zpack I think and his contributions were really neat (believe he did e3m1 and e3m8) and even today, you can still see some of those elements in his mapset (valiant has the suicide bommers + cyber knights that were also present in zpack ^^). Future: Crunchynutt44 and AD_79 The first one mentioned is someone I knew way back and he had some pretty good contributions to a project we worked on (along with others) but was later abandonned due to lack of time/motivation? Today, with his release of bachulus (still in beta) and his more recent "cereal killer", I can safely say that he is a mapper to keep an eye on ;) The latter (AD) is well, also someone to look forward to in the future. His small mapset "violence" is a good example of that. Granted, the mapset was made to "copy" skillsaw's valiant on purpose but even then, you could see some personnal (the purplish 80's action movies ambiance going on) touches to it and this is what made "violence" one of my favorite mapset that was released fairly recently. He also seems to be getting some attention from other "big names" too. His contribution to skillsaw's latest wad is an example of that. Plus, dude made me discover a french music artist (dan terminus) and considering I'm french, that's a plus in his favor xD (Ok, that's a little biased but whatever). So yeah, that's about it ^^ 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Graf Zahl Posted September 8, 2016 Two I'd like to single out are the already frequently mentioned Erik Alm and Gusta. Both have something I miss in most mappers: Even with the most simple of layouts they can create interesting gameplay without resorting to obtuse puzzles. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
yakfak Posted September 8, 2016 add my vote to the Gusta and Xaser vote-heaps! 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Doomkid Posted September 8, 2016 The people who have made my favorite Doom maps are as follows For SP: Erik Alm Denis Moeller (Made great DM maps too, actually) Shamus Young Gregory Dick Adrian Smart For DM: UniDoom (for udm3 & udmX) Hellbent (for greenwar) Mechanix Union (for dbab) I picked the authors of of my favorite WADs to attempt to whittle down the list to a reasonable size, but truth be told, there were/are far too many good authors out there for any list to do the mapping community proper justice. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Steve D Posted September 9, 2016 Lots of great mappers named already, so I'll add just one who I think should be better known: Michael Krause 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
