Cacodemon getting super pissed?

Only saw this once during campaign. I got quite a few hits on a caco, but not quite to the point of GK highlighting. Instead, he spun around really quickly and began firing lightning balls like mad. It was pretty funny and I don't think it was a glitch. Anyone else witness this?

You can blind them by shooting them in the eye and they start shooting lightning balls like crazy before exploding.

I played Doom so much but I can't say I have see one spin around shooting projectiles everywhere. However in Snapamp there is this (or I think it is) a bug where sometimes they explode and a couple projectiles fly out of them a second or so later.
