999cop Posted July 3, 2016 what's the number they estimated before selling? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Gothic Box Posted July 5, 2016 There isn't any public sales target, although the PC version sold over 500,000 copies within the first month of release, and was the top selling game in the UK, beating out Overwatch and Uncharted 4, so I'd say it probably did reach that goal. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Depends how much the game cost to make and market. A lot of games are hitting 100 million in costs, with 500,000 copies sold, that is about 40 million Canadian (it was 80 bucks). They may have saved a shit ton on marketing just because it's Doom. Word spreads pretty quickly when a nostalgic game is being remade. They may have also saved a lot by paying some of those not very known well YouTubers. Like hey, we'll let you play Doom before everyone else, you'll get more views because of it. Kinda like scratch our back we'll scratch yours. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
40oz Posted July 6, 2016 They probably spent a lot on developing the game for over a decade. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

This normally wouldn't be the case for a lot of devs, but when you've got powerhouses like John Carmack it's a benefit. I'm just speculating though, I have nothing to back this up. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Especially considering Carmack hasn't worked there for years and most of the visual side of idtech 6 was handled by former Cryengine developers. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
