Havoc Crow Posted July 6, 2016 I've completed Jenesis once already, but on HMP. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/89415187/DWIronman1_JudgeDeadd.lmp (prboom+ -cl9) About 20 minutes. Up to MAP02, apparently I died due to a revenant, lost soul and chaingunner at the same time. Died because I was impatient (and tired of plinking away at revenants with a single-shotgun) and didn't bother to kill the skeletons safely from behind the door. Instead I blundered into the room in the hopes of finding a safe spot. Well, unfortunately it was already occupied by a chaingun toting fatso, who didn't take too kindly to me trying to steal his seat. --- I just realized that, technically, the rules don't say anything about starting on map01. So, the easiest way to get to the top is to run the game with -warp 30 :P 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Jimmy Posted July 6, 2016 No restrictions on how you play the game, apart from the obvious ones like using cheats or advanced source port features that can break Vanilla maps (like jumping and crouching) - mouse was a feature of Vanilla so that's fine. Everything you need to know is outlined in the OP. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Suitepee Posted July 6, 2016 https://secure.twitch.tv/johnsuitepee/v/76574908 = part 2 of my run, covering maps 05-07. Well I died within the first 20 seconds of map 07, somewhat embarassingly. I expected some kind of Dead Simple enemy bumrush, and I sure got it with the Mancubus pack. Alas I forgot to check my flank after hiding behind one of them and got promptly roasted by the most unlikely of ninjas. I feel a bit agitated since with a more aggressive & smarter scouting approach I should have prevailed, but oh well. I think I did alright for someone playing this blind, and I look forward to the one next month! I'll cast my nomination for next month on Scythe. (if this becomes a thing that happens monthly, which I hope it does!) 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

(if this becomes a thing that happens monthly, which I hope it does!) scythe is probably the best choice I could think of for the whole ironman thing. small maps, relatively easy, can't speak for others but I'm more familiar with those maps than I am the iwads even. wouldn't surprise me at all to see multiple players beat it in one fell swoop (or in the very least, a few deaths on m30 :p) 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Varis Alpha Posted July 6, 2016 Hmm. I might do with recording a demo in GZDoom and then running some recording software while replaying the demo i took. Is that acceptable, or do i simply have to rec the game from the start? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Dragonfly Posted July 6, 2016 If we're doing votes for mapsets, hmm, I'd vote Scythe 2 over Scythe 1. Otherwise I think my vote goes to Mayhem 2016, assuming it's been released by that point. Viscra Maelstrom said:Hmm. I might do with recording a demo in GZDoom You can stop there! Just upload that demo. :) 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
baja blast rd. Posted July 6, 2016 s2 map23 will be a fun one. :D I haven't been able to play Doom lately on anything that isn't very simple. Keyboard is bugging out, with keys triggering random combos of things, for example "1" switches to the fist . . . and asks me if I want to quit . . . "6" is the plasma rifle . . . and the very unhelpful help screen. Optical mouse is also interpreting purely vertical movement somehow as having a left- or rightward component, which makes moving around really uncomfortable, like someone is occasionally pushing me. Wtf -_-. Anyway, sigh, I need new gear now I guess. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
SleepyVelvet Posted July 6, 2016 I favor whatever mapset comes out of alfonzo's mystery bag; that way it's a surprise and minimizes preparedness. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
40oz Posted July 6, 2016 I think good ol' Doom 2: Hell on Earth would be a nice set too. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Ashstrodamus Posted July 6, 2016 40oz said:I think good ol' Doom 2: Hell on Earth would be a nice set too.More than likely, a lot of people would go all the way on that one. Hell on Earth is pretty easy to me, minus a level or two where Pain Elementals can be a pain in the ass. Cybie531 would just come in and whoop us. I think a classic like Alien Vendetta should be next. It's hard and I see about 26 ending the really good players. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
dobu gabu maru Posted July 6, 2016 40oz said:I think good ol' Doom 2: Hell on Earth would be a nice set too. Nah, that one is too easy to make it to the end, especially playing continuous. I kinda like the mapsets that are a little more risky to play, as it gives people (like me) more opportunities to die earlier instead of going for 4 hours straight. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Rayziik Posted July 6, 2016 kraflab said:A) Cyber can't do tricks, and B) He would die on chasm. Daaaaaamn, shots fired! Also, I've played through Doom 2 so many times I never want to see it again. But in regards to the current selection, I'll probably be streaming my attempt this weekend at some point. I'll post here when I begin! 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
4shockblast Posted July 6, 2016 I like the idea of it being a mystery what wad will be next month instead of a vote. That said, if it's Scythe you can count on me being in for sure. I'd try Doom 2 and Scythe 2 as well, although I don't expect to have much success with the latter. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
40oz Posted July 6, 2016 This is also going to be a very long month :D 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Royal_Sir Posted July 7, 2016 I'm going to try it. Wish me luck! 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Alfonzo Posted July 8, 2016 Love the style, vorpal. No piss-farting around; just get stuck in! You must have paid off the devil a few times, though, because map02 and 04 had you up against the ropes. Sweet death :) 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
40oz Posted July 9, 2016 ffffffffffff I was really hanging in there, but I broke MAP07 somehow and couldn't continue any further. Anyway here's an hour of me playing Jenesis. demo cl9 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
MrGlide Posted July 9, 2016 prolly a stupid question but freelook isn't allowed correct? and are we allowed to watch others videos or demos (I'm assuming not)?(edit)Thank you very much for the reply Alfonzo, sorry about the Freelook question but it wasn't listed in the op, I'll record my first run of this in a bit and see how I fair. I'll be doing this blind. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Alfonzo Posted July 9, 2016 You cannot use freelook or jumping/crouching in a boom set, no. You may look at other people's runs - it's why I've linked 'em! 40oz said:ffffffffffff I was really hanging in there, but I broke MAP07 somehow and couldn't continue any further. Damn, that's some terrible luck... at least I assume it is since the demo desyncs at the start of Map05. It looks like you killed the final arachnotrons simultaneously? It goes up on the leaderboard anyway (how am I still in 6th place??). 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
MrGlide Posted July 9, 2016 Died on map02, I need to practice Doom without free aim. It's a good time as any to get back into classic again. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

I had a long pause break game at the start of that map, I wonder if that had something to do with it. Sorry. I really did get to map07 without dying though!! 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
WH-Wilou84 Posted July 10, 2016 Made it up to map 20 - here's the 4+ hours long demo : http://www.mediafire.com/download/jc4xayju7xqk6jh/Jenesis-ironman-map20-wh.zip Damn this Baron / HK surprise fight :) That was nasty. In my memory map 15 was the most frightening, but with carryovers and a bit of foreknowledge as regards to the most dangerous parts, things went pretty good. I'm so tired now, I just wanna thank Jimmy for this awesome megawad, and Alfonzo for the thread idea ! Also props to those who made it even further. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Alfonzo Posted July 10, 2016 Hello, just a small update: If you're planning to stream your run and have a good idea of when it will take place, drop the date, time and channel in the thread so I can pin it up in the OP. Rake in an audience! 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Rake in an audience! Tomorrow, June 10, at 7:00pm EDT. Hopefully I won't die in MAP02, but I plan on just continuing to play Jenesis to the end anyways when I do eventually die. Also, ill be going into this blind minus a few anecdotes of info I have read in this thread. Link to stream in signature. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Alfonzo Posted July 11, 2016 https://www.twitch.tv/rayziiksenpai Rayzik's closing in on Veinen's record and sitting pretty on map14. We need someone to step in and shake the totem - throw him off balance! Bring your evil pom-poms. EDIT: RIP 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
