I've completed Jenesis once already, but on HMP.

Up to MAP02, apparently I died due to a revenant, lost soul and chaingunner at the same time. Died because I was impatient (and tired of plinking away at revenants with a single-shotgun) and didn't bother to kill the skeletons safely from behind the door. Instead I blundered into the room in the hopes of finding a safe spot. Well, unfortunately it was already occupied by a chaingun toting fatso, who didn't take too kindly to me trying to steal his seat.

I just realized that, technically, the rules don't say anything about starting on map01. So, the easiest way to get to the top is to run the game with -warp 30 :P

No restrictions on how you play the game, apart from the obvious ones like using cheats or advanced source port features that can break Vanilla maps (like jumping and crouching) - mouse was a feature of Vanilla so that's fine. Everything you need to know is outlined in the OP.

Well I died within the first 20 seconds of map 07, somewhat embarassingly.

I expected some kind of Dead Simple enemy bumrush, and I sure got it with the Mancubus pack. Alas I forgot to check my flank after hiding behind one of them and got promptly roasted by the most unlikely of ninjas. I feel a bit agitated since with a more aggressive & smarter scouting approach I should have prevailed, but oh well.

I think I did alright for someone playing this blind, and I look forward to the one next month! I'll cast my nomination for next month on Scythe. (if this becomes a thing that happens monthly, which I hope it does!)

scythe is probably the best choice I could think of for the whole ironman thing. small maps, relatively easy, can't speak for others but I'm more familiar with those maps than I am the iwads even. wouldn't surprise me at all to see multiple players beat it in one fell swoop (or in the very least, a few deaths on m30 :p)

Hmm. I might do with recording a demo in GZDoom and then running some recording software while replaying the demo i took. Is that acceptable, or do i simply have to rec the game from the start?

If we're doing votes for mapsets, hmm, I'd vote Scythe 2 over Scythe 1. Otherwise I think my vote goes to Mayhem 2016, assuming it's been released by that point.

I haven't been able to play Doom lately on anything that isn't very simple. Keyboard is bugging out, with keys triggering random combos of things, for example "1" switches to the fist . . . and asks me if I want to quit . . . "6" is the plasma rifle . . . and the very unhelpful help screen. Optical mouse is also interpreting purely vertical movement somehow as having a left- or rightward component, which makes moving around really uncomfortable, like someone is occasionally pushing me. Wtf -_-. Anyway, sigh, I need new gear now I guess.

More than likely, a lot of people would go all the way on that one. Hell on Earth is pretty easy to me, minus a level or two where Pain Elementals can be a pain in the ass. Cybie531 would just come in and whoop us. I think a classic like Alien Vendetta should be next. It's hard and I see about 26 ending the really good players.

Nah, that one is too easy to make it to the end, especially playing continuous. I kinda like the mapsets that are a little more risky to play, as it gives people (like me) more opportunities to die earlier instead of going for 4 hours straight.

Also, I've played through Doom 2 so many times I never want to see it again. But in regards to the current selection, I'll probably be streaming my attempt this weekend at some point. I'll post here when I begin!

I like the idea of it being a mystery what wad will be next month instead of a vote. That said, if it's Scythe you can count on me being in for sure. I'd try Doom 2 and Scythe 2 as well, although I don't expect to have much success with the latter.

You cannot use freelook or jumping/crouching in a boom set, no. You may look at other people's runs - it's why I've linked 'em!

Damn, that's some terrible luck... at least I assume it is since the demo desyncs at the start of Map05. It looks like you killed the final arachnotrons simultaneously? It goes up on the leaderboard anyway (how am I still in 6th place??).

That was nasty.

In my memory map 15 was the most frightening, but with carryovers and a bit of foreknowledge as regards to the most dangerous parts, things went pretty good.

I'm so tired now, I just wanna thank Jimmy for this awesome megawad, and Alfonzo for the thread idea !

Tomorrow, June 10, at 7:00pm EDT. Hopefully I won't die in MAP02, but I plan on just continuing to play Jenesis to the end anyways when I do eventually die. Also, ill be going into this blind minus a few anecdotes of info I have read in this thread.
