I just saw it. It is alright, indeed. I am particularly impressed by the fact that the whole movie seems to be one uninterrupted shot! It does not make it any better or worse, but I can only imagine how tricky it must have been to pull off, especially in a setting as busy as a small restaurant.

I watched the recent Scream VI, thought it was funner than the last since they nicely used the setting, New York City, to the films advantage.

There was an especialy cool twist at the very start that I won't spoil, so you shoild definetely give it a watch.

 

Though the scares weren't as strong, but that is to be expected with a sixth entry in a series (I mean how many times can you beat up a guy in mask and still expect him to be as scary as in the first film).

I forgot how completely psychotic and unhinged Robin Williams gets in the final act of the movie at the hotel. Genuinely scary but a helluva performance from Robin. Also, that dream sequence where his eyes explode was oddly funny.

He played a similar character two years later in The Final Cut - except with fictional memory implants instead of photographic film.

 

Kind of an odd coincidence when you think about it.

Watched Prospect, a science-fiction film I had never heard of until now despite starring the now-ubiquitous Pedro Pascal.

 

 

Even though the movie came out in 2018, one cannot help but be reminded of HBO's adaptation of The Last of Us, given how it involves Pedro Pascal playing a gruff anti-hero having to reluctantly team up with a girl (Sophie Thatcher) to survive a hostile post-apocalyptic environment. There are also touches of Pitch Black with the hostile alien planet setting and the fact that Pascal's character begins as an antagonist.

 

An interesting space western with solid performances, overall.

Nightmare Beach (1989)

 

Obstensibly a Spring Break slasher, it's alternative title was even "Welcome to Spring Break." It's an American/Italian co-production and supposedly Umberto Lenzi was tagged to direct but he declined, leaving the job to the film's screenwriter. There's genuinely some ambiguity though behind the scenes of who did what.

 

Which could be a recipe for disaster but I thought this was a fun slasher film with a good and memorable cast and a plot twist I rather liked. I did predict it but only ten minutes before the reveal, which I've always felt was a good sweetspot. The Killer liked to electrocute or burn his victims and there were some damn messy kills. John Saxon is present and is great as always. I dunno why but an Italian element in a slasher/mystery thriller always adds a bit of weirdness to it that makes them very memorable.

The series, not the film (that I already saw) that happen 25 years and 6 prime ministers after the film, with the same characters (and the original casting) who still struggle for life in Sheffield (UK).

Very, very, very good. Robert Carlyle has not forgotten from where he came from (misery). Each episode is a love letter to the people who are nothing and a charge against the people who have succeeded.

Not a movie (although it did get a live-action movie adaptation, which is weird, because at some point in the show, the protagonist remarks that live-action adaptations of anime are a recipe for disaster...), but I am currently binging Saiki K on Netflix. 

 

 

It is really silly, but also very funny. Even though it is meant as a comedy, the series surprisingly portrays the almost all-powerful protagonist as fairly grounded and well-adjusted and it has yet to take a sudden dark turn where Saiki has to face off some sort of serious threat. Maybe it will come up later on, but so far, I am relieved that the show has yet to pull a Full Metal Panic! with the initial slapstick humor and high school hijinks are abruptly replaced with gritty violence, straightforward action scenes and bloodthirsty villains with shallow characterization.

 

And before anyone points out, yes, I know about the all-comedic Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu spin-off and yes, it is delightful!

So this kid finds out his brother's a serial killer...and let's just say it gets really dark.

 

Though there was this one moment where their douchebag dad and older brother argue about something and the younger kid and his mom imitate their facial expressions and cadence most hilariously.

 

But the ending is um, kind of open to say the least.

Gene Generation. What a snoozefest. 

Watching it was like waiting for a train to arrive, but it just doesn't. You hear the whistles, the rattling of the track, and the chugging of the wheels, but it just doesn't come at all. Then, when it finally does come, you just get teleported to your destination, and are just left confused.
