Most recent movie you saw

Finally got around to watching Barbarian. Everyone kept telling me to see it and that I'd love it and they were right, it's a lot of fun! All the surreal wide angle lens distortion made for some great suspense and atmosphere. I plan to watch it again tonight.

Nice retro-looking poster! For a moment, it really had me fooled.

Kind of weird how it promotes the producers over the director and especially the lead actors, though. I suppose that Zach Cregger and Georgina Campbell are not famous enough and Justin Long is no longer hip, but Bill Skarsgård was Pennywise, goddamnit!

Dudes (1987)

These three punks leave New York for California after rubbing some people the wrong way....and end up in a different adventure when their pal gets murdered by some hillbillies.

The Holy Mountain (1973)

If you wanted to get high without touching any illicit substances, this movie is for you. It's shock your senses and hit you with visuals only a tweaker hanging outside the nearest "circle-a" could come up with. I kept finding myself trying to explain what was happening to my own mind and realizing none of it is even slightly coherent or means anything at all. My only regret; I didn't watch it while high.

The Holy Mountain is good, but I like El Topo more. It's less psychedelic, but it feels more coherent and has more of a defined style and story.

Heard of it, it's what got one of those bug band guys interested in his work. I'll have to check it out.

Patrick (2013)

A remake of a movie from '78 where a young woman is put in charge of a mental patient....it was a fine enough way to utilize generic horror cliches I guess and the tension wasn't half-bad but it's always annoying to see someone ignore advice that we all know is well-founded.

Renfield

The movie where Nicolas Cage plays a real vampire....and it's Dracula for some reason. His performance is actually quite good, though of course he hams it up in spots cuz it's what the people want.

I saw Saw X (no pun intended). After watching the film, I honestly believe Jigsaw to be in the same league as Anthony Hopkins' Hannibal Lecter.

I saw Skinamarink, a horror movie filmed in the city I currently live in. It was probably the slowest movie I've seen, and I'm still not sure if I liked it, but I believe it was effective in what it set out to do. I felt uneasy through the entire film.

..didn't like it that much btw, the photography and the amount of "huge" actors was insane and I'm not sure he could've done a better job, I just didn't like the movie, all too political, again, obviously given the subject, and understandably.

Sweetwater (2013) Revisionist Western of sorts, with one of the characters being an absolute shithole of a preacher, with a fair few moments of dark humour.

Tokyo Godfathers, a surprisingly heartwarming Christmas comedy movie from the late Satoshi Kon!

So it's that time of year again where I watch old soviet winter films

This morning I watched Morozko ( father frost) absolutely my favorite film.

And right now as I'm cooking and drinking pints we are viewing, Evenings on a Farm Near Dikanka... basically it's the night before Christmas and everyone one in the village wants to get drunk and bang the local witch, but the devil is out to make a fool of the local blacksmith who just wants to acquire some badass shoes for his love, in which at the end she's like, no. 😆 But she sees all he went through for them dang shoes and he wins her heart! Phukin masterpiece.

I saw Voleuses - "Wingwomen" (?) in English - from Mélanie Laurent (Shoshanna in "Inglorious Basterds"). It was... eh. Not bad, but I have seen better. It is reportedly based off a comic book titled La Grande Odalisque, which is better as far as I am concerned.

I watched Ghostbusters - Afterlife. Like any Ghostbusters fan, I have to recommend watching this film, and if you don't, well, who cares what you are saying anyway, right?
So Ghostbusters is basically a kid's movie, with parents that look and sound ridiculously full of jokes. The visuals are great, but the original GB movies were good too, so it's not like this is something new. I don't want to spoil anything, but there is plenty to see here, so make sure you watch the whole movie, even if you don't like being called 'old' halfway through the movie and get the cold shoulder from the fam-damily in the middle.

Watch it.

was lucky enough to catch OldBoy in the very few selected showings in cinemas it had for the 20th anniversary, since it's easily one of the best movies I've seen and I didn't get to watch it in theaters back in 2003 when it came out

How is it? Would you recommend it?

I mean, if you're in for a fairly simplistic creature feature centering around soldiers and some other folks that happen to be werewolves, sure, but the plot was a little too weak for me to recommend.

@LadyMistDragon Bummer. I have only seen two Neil Marshall movies, "The Descent" (which I quite liked) and "Doomsday" (which I... did not), so I was wondering if that one was any good. I guess not... :S
