The Virgin Suicides. A couple years ago I watched Mustang, which is a Turkish film that got compared to The Virgin Suicides when it came out. I liked that film, so I thought I'd like this one. It was really good, but felt a bit like a dream. Not as depressing as I thought it'd be, and definitely less depressing than Mustang, but that's probably just because it feels so hazy and distant.

Repulsion (1966)

There's an incredibly beautiful woman that can't stand the thought of relationships with men, or perhaps men in general. Feel kind of arty and a bit ironic too given the director <_>

Fresh (2022)

This was not too bad. Almost was kind of believable in a way. Honestly, it's kind of a sleeper. I guess the premise is a little basic but the tone at the beginning is just such a contrast compare to what it ends up being.

I don't know how I've gone my whole life without seeing the first three Mad Max films, but I finally watched them all for the first time over the past three days, and they're each as entertaining as their reputation, and I just might watch them all again!

Last night: the 30th anniversary movie theater re-release of The Crow (1994).

I never got to see it in theaters back then in high school, and I love that movie so, so much!

(Among movie trailers they showed the one for the upcoming remake and all like 10 of us there were like "Eeeeeew". One person shouted "Why'd they cast a YouTuber mumble rapper as Eric trying to be Jared Leto (his take The Joker, obviously)?" LOL!)

I watched a few movies recently, Murder by Decree, Red Heat, The Mummy (1959), A Shot in the Dark and Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.

Murder By Decree was alright, I liked the cast, I think though it just wasn't as strong a story about Sherlock Holmes investigating the Jack the Ripper killings could have been.

Red Heat was average, I think it fails in being funny enough to be anything more, John Belushi just isn't doing very much, and Schwarznegger actually feels like he's playing a stoic asshole rather than himself, if that makes sense and it'd have been more entertaining if he'd been more tongue in cheek with the performance.

Hammer's first take on The Mummy was pretty good. Hard to imagine Christopher Lee actually being bandaged up and playing the titular monster like a blind Jason Vorhees but he was still not quite the star he'd become in 1959 I suppose.

A Shot in the Dark is wonderful, the second half is hilarious, the ending is especially hilarious, wonderful movie.

Star Trek VI I'd seen before, seen all the OG Trek movies, it's possibly my favourite but I think they're all good (Even V, which falls a bit short but not for lack of effort in my opinion.)

I watched "The Man Who Killed Hitler and then The Bigfoot" during my vacation.   Nice movie overall, a bit odd but you kind of expect that with a title like that.i

i also watched this one for the first time very recently and also enjoyed it despite the expected shortcomings, i also really like the music in this, but i think i like marie antoinette a little bit more, the costumes in that one are a lot of fun

been suffering action movies available on terrestrial tv

lol

mad max 2 is good

lethal weapon is fucking awful

mad max setting is full people credibly living their whacked out wasteland lives with abandon

i love that there's nothing efficient about the marauders

they aren't stern or military guys holding aks
they are doing bike jumps and taunting a flamethrower turret and getting lit

it's so much better for the film, instant characterization, something that amps up the danger level

none of them try to explain themselves and lord humungus's bit muddies the water for any that would

it kinda instantly highlights how much fun yr missing in settings that are about cops or spies or mercs compared to the adventure you could be having

lethal weapon is just dumbass shane black stuff i don't respect \o/

the main cop film i respect is bad lieutenant: port of call new orleans

Inception (2010)

I'm by no means a movie-goer, but this is one of the few films that I watched in the theatre when it was released. We'd just passed out Masters degree entry exams and went to see a cool movie to celebrate. It was indeed very impressive on the big screen and I had some good memories of it, but as I stumbled upon it on TV somewhat recentish, I felt that it was no longer as cool when I knew all the plot twists. The cast delivered some pretty solid performances overall, always nice to see Cillian Murphy and Michael Caine, and also I think it was one of the last roles of Pete Postlethwaite?

While the idea of multiple dreams-within-dreams is rather original, I don't feel that the themes in this film are particularly deep or philosophical (something that Nolan seems to get "accused" of pretty often, as far as I can tell). The tone just makes a good contrast with the increasingly intricate action scenes to make the whole premise sound more intellectual than it really is.

Destroy All Humans (2024)

A few things happened which didn't make a ton of sense but this was mostly a delightful horror-comedy, a la Tucker and Dale.

That 2005 movie based on a game that I'm pretty sure everyone on this site knows about. Honestly, the only reason I watched this movie is because of the funny eyebrow man.
