...over being able to run DOOM '16 on my current laptop after all.

I did have to sacrifice graphical quality and resolution, but then again, I've never cared much for any of that to begin with. Either way, after four months of pain-staking background research, I finally found out yesterday that my laptop (yes, you read that right) had a chance of running DOOM '16. So I installed the game and - what do you know - it ran at a perfectly playable framerate.

My specs for the curious:
Core i5-2430M @ 2.4 GHz
GeForce GT540M 2GB
6GB RAM
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

I don't think you'd get very far. I have i5-3210M @ 2.5 GHz, GT 630M 2 GB, and 8 GB RAM, and even on the absolute lowest settings it still slowed to a crawl in some parts.

I'v personally found the resolution scaler to help more than actually reducing the resolution.
