The raw, referential posters I've made for a top secret project.

But if you wanna use them as a reference to this project, or just for some silly references, you could use the ones below for non-Zderivative ports.

Very nice, love these versions. They could gradually change throughout an episode. Very nice.

What about gradually change during one map... like weather changing in other games. It would be nice to combine the stormy version with the rain effect. ;)

The Phobos Directive used variants of the E1 sky in a manner similar to the way you describe. The maps were in a hub, with the player returning to the "central" map, and the sky in this map was changed periodically to signal progression. The game had a night sky, a foggy sky, and a bright blue sky. In addition, the patches for sky textures were increased in height from 128 pixels to 240 pixels because ZDooM accommodated "tall" skies.

@GoatLord: Those overhead pipe textures look fantastic!

 

Another way to use such textures is as a ceiling flat (i.e., the pipes are running horizontally overhead). They can be put into a recessed section of the ceiling. For example, take a look at the upper edge of this picture or the upper right of this one. You can also use pipes quite effectively as floor textures, as seen on the left side of this one.

I can actually imagine this being useful for like a cobblestone road or something.

Some progress, but I need to stop for now. Someone else can take it from here if they want. Still some loose wires and I wasn't sure what to do with the piping 1/3 of the way in.

Awesome! I'd work on it more, but it looks like what you posted isn't the right size @plums.
