A cheat by any other name would smell as sweet. This is literally the same reasoning people apply to "let themselves" rerecord in speedruns and forget to mention it. How the hell do you even start softening Iron Man/Hardcore rules? It's like removing the core principle of the event and there's probably a billion ways of abusing it past "giving people another chance".

Died on map 27, I think I could have beaten bloodite's time (would have been close), but what a random way to die.

I died in the megasphere secret room, there were some hellknights there that I figured I could ignore for a short while. Then I walked into a corner where I was actually completely stuck between the hellknight and the hanging corpse thing. I was so certain I would be able to run straight forward, but with 96/76 health/bluearmor they killed me in 3 hits. A bit unlucky, with a SSG blast to the HK I could have gotten out and grabbed the mega, but instead it was 172+ damage from 2 melee hits + fireball.

I've played this wad once about a year ago, and I've watched 4shockblast play it. Also checked where the second secret exit was, I probably would have missed it if I didn't. Maps 16 and 22 were really close for me, should have died there.

I almost thought I was done for on map 30 with the two Cybers and that pesky AV on the stairs, and there were a few close calls on some maps, but overall the wad's on the easy side. It's pretty solid for its time, and I didn't know much about it before this month.

I did watch some of you guys' streams and 4shock's UV Max demos on maps 15 and 31, just to make sure that I could find the secret exits.

DNF (MAP07) - trapped behind a yellow door that apparently opens only once

prboom-plus.exe -file .\PG-RAW.WAD -skill 4 -record noisy.PG-RAW.lmp
comp-settings might be illegal too, i dunno

edit: door of despair.

edit: player's context - i played the first 3 maps about a year ago, the rest is blind; didn't even realize two other people got claimed by the evil door. Also, my vote is to treat gamestopping bugs as #PartOfTheGame, or put an asterisk on people who do do-overs, if they are allowed.

Two-shotting Cyberdemons in a small pain sectored space can be difficult....

My previous playthrough of PG (in January 2015) helped me out a little bit, but the one time I need a 2-shot to come out first time I messed up somehow. I had no choice but to take the fight though after I found map 10's BFG secret and where its teleport placed me (right next to the Cyber in the pain sector).

Oh well, I beat an_mutt to take our score to 3-2 in my favour. Roll on December!

you havent specified the complevel ( -complevel 2 in this case), and i normally specify the base iwad with -iwad doom2.wad (e.g.) before the -file command.

my guess: it could have been a barrel that got nudged onto the teleporter, a barrel from the BFG room. you, perhaps, telefragged the barrel on entry to the Steve-room. I'd still give the kill to Steve, because i wanna see how many people die there by the end of the month.

Yeah, that's what it looked like. I've definitely experienced that on map 10.

OP updated. Steve is raking in the kills, and MAP07's YK door is not far behind. Who will step up to the plate on the 11th hour to overthrow Bloodite? And where the hell is Dime??

@Suitepee: Funny way to go, but I wonder why you didn't make for either the door or the teleporter while you were melting away in the pit. Maybe you just wanted to play the one-two punch with Steve, for show? That's the Ironman spirit!

The concensus seems to be with the existing setup and the reasoning is sound, I think, so I'll not offer second runs until the topic is revisited and there's an about face on the issue. If I were going to change it up, though, it'd be with the beginning of another challenge, not partway through the month!

You didn't post a first run to begin with, just quietly. I have rooted around for runs that the player made but didn't post on occasion (Saint_Guy survived the set but I somehow missed it - there's no vid to retrieve from his channel), but I'd rather not make a habit of picking up the slack.

Clearly 4shockblast would have taken this hands down, no competition but got very unlucky with his sensational pace. By contrast I'm certain Zeromaster would have beaten my time, considering his improved pace when assaulting MAP27 but was screwed over by nonsensical level design. Better luck next time chaps :D
