Fuck you all. Crazybus is the zenith of not only the entire industry in terms of story, presentation, and entertainment value, but the extreme extent of all forms of high art that the human race as a whole have been unknowingly striving to create from the beginning of existence.

The difference is, I'm arguing a viewpoint I actually believe. I've been saying Doom 4 is mediocre and worse than Doom 3 (which I also consider mediocre, but a slightly better mediocre) since I first played it.

But everyone knows Ride to Hell is the epitome of Great award winning game design. People are just fooling themselves when they say RtH is "edgy" or has glitches. Doom 4 is an FPS clone and Ride to Hell is super Original.

No, it's "pathetic". Poor sound design, enemies don't reel much, little visible recoil. Doom 4's guns flat-out feel weak.

Not helped by the fact that it takes about 5 shots to kill anything because "HAY WE GOTTA SHOE OFF ARE GLORYKILLS CAN'T HAV ANYONE KILL ANYTHING BY AXIDENT DERP WEEK GUNS IN A MASS-KILL FPS IS GUD GAEM DESIIN!!"

There's genres other than FPS, you know. If one genre is sucking in a particular timeframe, it makes sense to explore others.

And Overwatch, Titanfall 2, Infinite Warfare, and Dishonored 2 all absolutely murder Doom 4 when it comes to satisfying audio-visual feedback.

And Doom 4 murders all of those in every other aspect (except maybe Dishonored's story).

Calling it "Doom" is dumb, because it caters to the attempts of the big publishers to make it difficult to talk about classic titles.

Notice how all of the reboots have titles like "Tomb Raider", "Doom", "Wolfenstein", "Thief", etc. with no subtitles? Notice how a game console like the "Xbox One" has a name that makes it confusing to talk about the original Xbox? It's not by accident. The publishers are trying to actively destroy the history of the medium, and calling Doom 4 "Doom" is aiding them in this.

EDIT @ Jazzmaster -- Nope, the only one of those that you could make an argument that Doom 4 beats in *any* regard is Infinite Warfare. Dishonored 2 is especially a laugh; sure, it's not an instant-classic like Dishonored 1 (being a sequel to the best AAA game since "AAA" became a term in the gamer parlance is a tough act), but it still absolutely destroys Doom 4 in every single regard. Visually, mechanically, in level design, whatever; it's MILES beyond anything 2016 Id could ever dream of making.

Within 10 seconds of that video, I got a perfect example of what I'm talking about.

"It is an identical clone of Doom bla bla..." NOPE.

Doom's combat was never segmented away from its exploration. "Both of these games are retro throwbacks"... say, which early-to-mid '90s FPS was built around arena lock-ins? OH, RIGHT, NONE OF THEM, THAT WAS A 2000s THING WITH SERIOUS SAM.

In other words, by just calling the game "Doom", they got this idiot to rewrite the history of an entire genre in his head. And it just so happens that the history he wrote had simpler games in the '90s than actually existed, thus creating the illusion of progress where there is none.

Thank you for demonstrating my point perfectly. Stop calling it "Doom". It's Doom 4.

Yes it was. After killing a bunch of enemies in a room you are then required to organically search the environment for a means to proceed, either with the automap or with whatever is around you.
This describes both classic Doom and Doom4. It'd also describe Doom3 if it had an automap.

And what about in all of those maps in E2 and E3 where you didn't have enough weaponry to fight the demons you were currently facing? You had to find things that made you more able to fight and paths to those things (that is, explore) and fight at the same time! Gasp! How revolutionary!

My opinion here, but comparing every Doom/FPS game is like comparing apples, oranges, bananas, watermelons etc. Doom 2016 has great action-based gameplay. Doom 3 has a great atmosphere? IDK i just know that I enjoyed it. Classic Doom has great moddability, with fresh content made every week or so. Doom 64 has great atmosphere. Doom RPG has great turn-based gameplay along with action. They all have their perks.

You're comparing Doom 2016 to Doom 3. Be aware that Doom 3 was released in 2004 and made to be more different from Classic Doom by giving the horror element that spotlight. Doom 2016 is the literal opposite in a sense!

Doom won the Best Action Game and Best Music/Sound Design awards. Of course it has dull gameplay and poor audio implementation.

Woah there, champ. Just because you have trouble doing two things at once doesn't mean everyone else does.

Here lies the crux of the issue. Some players will be able to move around the game world and fight enemies at the same time. Some players might not even fight enemies. Some other players will need to clear room after room methodically to progress.

Classic Doom allows all playstyles to exist. Fast and loose, pacifist, taking things one by one. Pacing is up to you.

Doom 2016 has hard-locked arenas, in which you have to kill enemies to open the doors. Pacing is controlled by the game.

If you happen to exclusively play slow and steady, you may not see the difference between the two games. This does not mean the difference doesn't exist. Rather, the implication would be you're merely scratching the surface of what a first-person shooter can be.
