Is there a hi-res sprite pack that doesn't suck?

I haven't had luck finding a decent one, but maybe I'm just not good at searching. Any ideas?

No, and there's unlikely to be; several attempts have been started only to never be finished as the author(s) realise what a huge undertaking it is.

Usually they've been traces of the sprites to the tune of 'manual HQ2X', which hasn't been very good at all.

It seems to be that it's far easier to be a level designer than an artist. I guess I'll just stick with Smooth Doom.
