I originally made these for a mapset inspired by a Hexen fanfic I wrote, which involved a stalker cult from the swamps. However that ended up going nowhere cuz I'm shit at mapping so here ya go. Nice sprites, I made a flaming variation of the cultist statue (just added Hexen's large flame sprites) and put them all into a wad with Decorate & GLDefs for everyones' convenience: https://www.mediafire.com/file/d4vibv53xw7vve4/StalkerProps.zip/file Edited March 22, 2019 by whirledtsar 5 Quote Share this post Link to post
Jimmy Posted March 23, 2019 (edited) This is one of those slightly "unethical" texture packs, but this WAD contains all the Hexen patches and textures and should be compatible with Heretic - they're all palettised to the Heretic palette. - Some patches might still need some color tweaks to look decent. - No SWITCHES/ANIMATED lump is included. Feel free to use/build upon, though! Download Hxntex for Heretic (3MB) Edited March 23, 2019 by Jimmy 9 Quote Share this post Link to post

Like you say though I wasn't sure if it would be appropriate to do so or not so I abandoned the idea. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
SOSU Posted March 23, 2019 @Jimmy Finally i can stop just using 99 textures and 66 flats :D <3 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Jaws In Space Posted April 1, 2019 Jimmy's post from last week reminded me that I had done a similar thing with Shadow Caster textures for Heretic Speedmapping 2, but I never uploaded the textures anywhere. So here they are free for anyone to use. Shadow Caster textures for Heretic Note: I did edit many of the textures in this wad from their originals for visual consistency & to make most of them 128 pixels tall. There is no SWITCHES/ANIMATED lump, so you'll have to make that yourself to get the liquids to work. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
whirledtsar Posted April 16, 2019 Icy variants of Hexen's pottery. I never edit sprites so I'm not sure if they're any good or not. 6 Quote Share this post Link to post
Ichor Posted November 27, 2019 A blank puzzle texture. Also good as a decoration. 10 Quote Share this post Link to post

TravyB Posted February 10, 2020 I've gotten into Heretic mapping recently and really enjoy the vanilla aesthetic, making the Baker's Legacy texture pack a favorite of mine. That said, I found it to be just a bit too unorganized for my own tastes so took it upon myself to group things together a bit better based on their visual or thematic similarities. For example, the original's WALL04_2 isn't anywhere near the group including CSTLVRT1 despite being the same texture but recolored, so for stuff like that I've gone through and renamed them to be grouped together. WALL04_2 CSTLVRT1 They are now CSTLW12 and CSTLW09, respectively, with the others of this type taking up the numbers in-between. I did NOT make a single change to any of the textures, outside of renaming about half of them. I simply grouped them together for my own ease of use and figured I'd share it in case anyone else might get some us out of it. I also added a short credits file to make it clear to anyone who happens upon this elsewhere (though I'm only sharing it here) that I didn't create or alter any of the textures. https://www.dropbox.com/s/ifzvrb02qpelphk/BAK_LEG(org).wad?dl=0 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
TravyB Posted February 27, 2020 Made a lit brazier out of Mor'ladim's skull brazier and Zzrion the Insect's fire pillars. Turned out fine for my first edit, I guess. 9 Quote Share this post Link to post
whirledtsar Posted March 4, 2020 (edited) An edit of Hexen's bookshelf to add the animal skull border from NotJabba's weapon racks. Looks a little less menacing/evil. The same edit, applied to a bookshelf from Ettingrinder's Hexen texture pack. Simple crop edits of Hexen's MONK14&15 to make the pattern simpler. Slightly more involved edits for 128px height. Edit: A small potted plant. Based on a sprite from Realms Of The Haunting, downscaled and palettized / cleaned up. I call it GPOTA0 because it could fit in nicely in an ancient Greek or Roman setting. Edited March 8, 2020 by whirledtsar 10 Quote Share this post Link to post
TravyB Posted March 5, 2020 Various edits I've been tinkering with to try and git gud. Credits to the creators of the Baker's Legacy pack, the Gothic Team and Neoworm. Bloody rocks inspired by Midsommar. I cannot for the life of me remember where I got that tree from (I wanted a skull tree that was a bit more Heretic-y), but if I missed anyone please let me know. 9 Quote Share this post Link to post
elend Posted March 5, 2020 Damn, that is looking nice. Love that rock, as well as the huge bricks wall. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Jimmy Posted March 5, 2020 Skull tree is badass. Original sprite is from Hexen, by the way. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

TravyB Posted April 23, 2020 (edited) Another batch of edits, this time from about 2 months ago (when I was on a real editing tear) that I forgot to post as I drifted away from Heretic and started working with Doom again. Full credit goes to the creators of Baker's Legacy, Daggerfall and Quake (stuff on the bookshelves), Captain Toenail, ETTiNGRiNDER, MagicWazard and JMMA. Please let me know if I forgot anyone. The only thing I kinda created myself was that rope and hook on the hanging corpse, which turned out decent enough I figured I'd add it to a skull tree as well to see how it looked. I'll probably have something in a couple of weeks to show which actually implements all of that editing I was doing. Edited April 23, 2020 by TravyB 28 Quote Share this post Link to post

Gez Posted April 23, 2020 17 hours ago, TravyB said: The base textures for these are originally from Shadowcaster. 17 hours ago, TravyB said: I believe these guys use a heavily edited Strife sprite as a base (see NEALA1 from Strife), spliced with bits of Heretic/Hexen stuff. The Heresiarch-looking statue is from a Heretic texture WALL56 (SAINT1). The two other statues are from Hexen, with a bits of Heretic sometimes (like that skull pedestal that's from BRPLA0). Specifically, W_093 (TOMB01) for the skinny guy, W_337 (WINNOW02) for the skelly guy. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Captain Toenail Posted April 23, 2020 (edited) This is an excellent thread. I have found it very useful to source stuff. Very cool edits TravyB! The kneeling guys were an edit I did for HPack way back when (what happened to HPack anyway?). They are based on the robed guys from Strife as Gez suggested. Here's some stuff I created for Quest for the Crystal Skulls, help yourself :-) Edited April 23, 2020 by Captain Toenail 14 Quote Share this post Link to post

Here's some stuff I created for Quest for the Crystal Skulls, help yourself :-) I REALLY like those lift and window-in-the-wall textures. I actually considered making a couple of statue variants after those same robed guys from Strife, thought it would be neat to have a prop with full rotations. It would stick out a lot though, since I wouldn't be able to do the same for the other statues. Could be used for a secret or whatever though, maybe. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Captain Toenail Posted April 24, 2020 I should add the lift textures are an edit of SaladBadger's texture on page 1 of this thread, which are an extremely useful texture for borders and dividing textures. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
NeoWorm Posted April 24, 2020 I posted this on ZDooM forums, but this thread may be good place to post it too. A rip of textures from game Chill Manor. They are oldschool 16bit textures that fit quite well to HeXen/Heretic. The game is quite obscure edutainment game in engine similar to Wolfenstein one. You can grab it here: https://www.mediafire.com/file/ngl16ej4oy5q804/Textures_Meen_Chill.pk3/file There are few more textures that could be useful and I didn't prepared for use in GZDooM yet. I will post an update if I add them. 8 Quote Share this post Link to post

It looked from the screenshot like they'd need a bit of sharpening and contrast before they'd fit well with other Heretic/Hexen resources, but maybe your gamma settings are just a little higher than I'm accustomed to or something, heh. Viewing the files directly in the *.pk3, they don't look like they'd need much alteration at all. Nice find. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
NeoWorm Posted April 24, 2020 Some are better than others. But overall they fit well. Also the textures are true color pngs, so they have no degradation from palette conversion. You can modify them as you want. And maybe if you do some edits, send them to me, I will add them to the pack. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
TravyB Posted April 25, 2020 (edited) Some of the stuff in that Chill Manor file has a lot of potential with a bit of reworking, the sounds too but messing with that kind of stuff is still Turkish to me EDIT: Oh, and I forgot to throw this in with the other stuff, so you can throw this on top of whatever wall textures you'd like.
