I originally made these for a mapset inspired by a Hexen fanfic I wrote, which involved a stalker cult from the swamps. However that ended up going nowhere cuz I'm shit at mapping so here ya go.

Nice sprites, I made a flaming variation of the cultist statue (just added Hexen's large flame sprites) and put them all into a wad with Decorate & GLDefs for everyones' convenience: https://www.mediafire.com/file/d4vibv53xw7vve4/StalkerProps.zip/file

This is one of those slightly "unethical" texture packs, but this WAD contains all the Hexen patches and textures and should be compatible with Heretic - they're all palettised to the Heretic palette.

 

- Some patches might still need some color tweaks to look decent.

- No SWITCHES/ANIMATED lump is included.

 

Feel free to use/build upon, though!

Awesome, I had planed on doing this exact thing last year when I was doing the Heretic Speedmapping sessions. Like you say though I wasn't sure if it would be appropriate to do so or not so I abandoned the idea.

Jimmy's post from last week reminded me that I had done a similar thing with Shadow Caster textures for Heretic Speedmapping 2, but I never uploaded the textures anywhere. So here they are free for anyone to use.

Note: I did edit many of the textures in this wad from their originals for visual consistency & to make most of them 128 pixels tall. There is no SWITCHES/ANIMATED lump, so you'll have to make that yourself to get the liquids to work.

I've gotten into Heretic mapping recently and really enjoy the vanilla aesthetic, making the Baker's Legacy texture pack a favorite of mine. That said, I found it to be just a bit too unorganized for my own tastes so took it upon myself to group things together a bit better based on their visual or thematic similarities. For example, the original's WALL04_2 isn't anywhere near the group including CSTLVRT1 despite being the same texture but recolored, so for stuff like that I've gone through and renamed them to be grouped together.

They are now CSTLW12 and CSTLW09, respectively, with the others of this type taking up the numbers in-between.

 

I did NOT make a single change to any of the textures, outside of renaming about half of them. I simply grouped them together for my own ease of use and figured I'd share it in case anyone else might get some us out of it. I also added a short credits file to make it clear to anyone who happens upon this elsewhere (though I'm only sharing it here) that I didn't create or alter any of the textures.

Made a lit brazier out of Mor'ladim's skull brazier and Zzrion the Insect's fire pillars. Turned out fine for my first edit, I guess.

Various edits I've been tinkering with to try and git gud. Credits to the creators of the Baker's Legacy pack, the Gothic Team and Neoworm. Bloody rocks inspired by Midsommar. I cannot for the life of me remember where I got that tree from (I wanted a skull tree that was a bit more Heretic-y), but if I missed anyone please let me know.

The base textures for these are originally from Shadowcaster.

I believe these guys use a heavily edited Strife sprite as a base (see NEALA1 from Strife), spliced with bits of Heretic/Hexen stuff.

 

The Heresiarch-looking statue is from a Heretic texture WALL56 (SAINT1).

 

The two other statues are from Hexen, with a bits of Heretic sometimes (like that skull pedestal that's from BRPLA0). Specifically, W_093 (TOMB01) for the skinny guy, W_337 (WINNOW02) for the skelly guy.

Very cool edits TravyB!

 

The kneeling guys were an edit I did for HPack way back when (what happened to HPack anyway?). They are based on the robed guys from Strife as Gez suggested.

 

Here's some stuff I created for Quest for the Crystal Skulls, help yourself :-)

I REALLY like those lift and window-in-the-wall textures. 

 

I actually considered making a couple of statue variants after those same robed guys from Strife, thought it would be neat to have a prop with full rotations. It would stick out a lot though, since I wouldn't be able to do the same for the other statues. Could be used for a secret or whatever though, maybe.

A rip of textures from game Chill Manor. They are oldschool 16bit textures that fit quite well to HeXen/Heretic. The game is quite obscure edutainment game in engine similar to Wolfenstein one.

It looked from the screenshot like they'd need a bit of sharpening and contrast before they'd fit well with other Heretic/Hexen resources, but maybe your gamma settings are just a little higher than I'm accustomed to or something, heh.  Viewing the files directly in the *.pk3, they don't look like they'd need much alteration at all.

Some are better than others. But overall they fit well. Also the textures are true color pngs, so they have no degradation from palette conversion. You can modify them as you want. And maybe if you do some edits, send them to me, I will add them to the pack.

Some of the stuff in that Chill Manor file has a lot of potential with a bit of reworking, the sounds too but messing with that kind of stuff is still Turkish to me

 

EDIT: Oh, and I forgot to throw this in with the other stuff, so you can throw this on top of whatever wall textures you'd like.
