*sigh* I give up...I've stated a million times that a chainsaw on Mars MAKES SINCE BECAUSE CHAINSAWS CAN BE FITTED WITH METAL CUTTING OR ROCK CUTTING BLADES!!

Maybe they simply use it for cutting up raw meat. Ya know, they have to send the food in large heaps from Earth.

Yes bigbadgangsta I heard your metal and concrete cutting chainsaw talking... I just said EVEN a mormal wood cutting chainsaw could end up on Mars, we don´t necessarely need those steel cutting hypersaws just to have a reason for a chainsaw on Mars. And Frederik´s meat chainsaw is also a cool idea :D

At any rate, a chainsaw is cool to kill stuff with unlike that stupid railgun, and that's what the most important thing about Doom 3 is - that the game has cool and fun weapons.

Two reason's why the chainsaw is the dog's bollocks...

1) Army Of Darkness.
2) American Psycho.

Do you see?

Yeah, I've never cared for the railgun too much in singleplayer... it felt so stupid in Q2. In ST it's alright, tho. You can actually line up a bunch of monsters and plow a hole through them. I don't see that happeneing in Doom III, tho.

An aim contest? What do you prefer? Spray and pray?

Good deathmatch games are about strategy and timing, and less about aim. I dont know if youve ever played doom 1 or 2 DM, but the reason the games are so fun is becaus its LESS about individual melees, and more about getting respawned stuff, maintaining ammo health etc. Even the original quake - while horribly unbalanced (the entire game was just a race to the rocket launcher) - still required more skills than aim aolone to play. In quake 3 the only time you ever worry about timing is quad damage and other powerups which are usually banned or looked down upon

From what i've read of Doom3 the player movement is going to be slowed way down, so playing against opponents with such a powerfull/instant hit weapon like the railgun would be a nightmare.

In Q3 if someone misses you with the railgun you can be miles away by the time it recharges, with Doom3 you'd be a sitting duck.

id are considering speeding up the player movement in multiplayer games, though it's not certain yet.

Chainsaws are sooooo five minutes ago! Fusion cutters are the future!

Who cares? Fusion cutters won't be fun to burn enemies with - Chainsaws will, however 'cause chainsaws rock.

Marine a)"Ack! Burned by a fusion cutter! My flesh is all black now. Oh dear."

Marine b)"AARGH! Sliced open by a chainsaw! Intestines...spilling...vertabrae...cracking..." *looks down* "Oooh, pretty gut patern!"

Now which sounds better?

I have never been the fan of chainsaw.I hope that the berserk pack made the come back.

If there will be chainsaw,i hope to see both futuristic fusion cutter and old chainsaw.Fusion cutter might be found in normal area.and they can make the old chainsaw as secret weapon.

The idea of cutting the imp in two halves is not bad...but that means more work for animator. With per-polygon hit detection.the legs or arms should be cut off. This kind of animation need to be created.(just my guess)

And,yeah.. no railgun.

Without a chainsaw, it won't be Doom - chainsaws are fun to use if you're a skilled Doom vet who wants to play through some of the maps using only the chainsaw or at least using it as much as possible.

Just because technology is old, it doesn't have to be obsolete. For example, a chainsaw would probably be more energy efficient than a fusion cutter while doing the same job. In such a case there wouldn't be a reason to use the fusion cutter beyond its high-tech-neatness.
