Alfonzo Posted June 1, 2017 Season standings spreadsheet updated. Some interesting developments! The top four players—Bloodite, DotW, Wilou and Roofi—are slowly edging away from the rest of the invested competition, although one hastens to add Veinen to that movement once you see that he missed out on BTSX in March. After a dodgy few months in the cellar (including a disastrous 1 minute outing in Legacy of Heroes), an_mutt has risen into contention. Could Disturbia be the Britbowl's watershed challenge? NoisyVelvet and Eris Falling are now the highest ranking players to have not survived a challenge this year. That's right, not even Mapgame! Finally, casting a sad, fat shadow over the 60th percentile are the perennial cellar dwellers who have only now just managed to scrape into a six-figure score. They know who they are, for they have played every month to date. 7 hours ago, Gordon said: I tried I wept :( 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
SleepyVelvet Posted June 1, 2017 (edited) Twiddles hands evilly. The ending was interesting, weird invis-sphere archvile shenanigans. A couple of close calls, like the blue key platform. edit: command line: prboom-plus.exe -file .\Distrbia.wad -record noisy.Distrbia.lmp -skill 4 -complevel 9 Player Context: Because this was gonna be a hard one, I poked around the grass hub before recording, up to the invis sphere secret and the second cyberdemon encounter. This obviously influenced my strategy having knowledge up to this point. Hat's off to the true blind players because of the rough start. I also thought I was being clever and original for discovering the "thousand imp" strat, but it appears that others found the same exploit before me. Suitepee Posted June 1, 2017 https://www.twitch.tv/videos/148756039 = my blind playthrough. Interesting observation time; Dobu gabu maru entered my chat and spoke the words "how's disturbia? Easy?".....nanoseconds later I was killed off by a zombieman in one of the nastier traps of the wad. (but really, it was a jinx by Dobu that did me in!) LordMisfit estimated I'd managed somewhere around 20.68% of the total kills (320/1547). I did initially plonk away at a couple of the imps, but eventually decided to save my ammo for proceeding forward after being told they were infinite in number. Managed to find the secret triple blursphere room which helped with one of the devious teleporting in parts; too bad I didn't spare one for the trap that would eventually kill me. Some armor might have helped also. Well I can only hope that an_mutt dies earlier than me, which might not be too far out of the question considering how hard this map felt..... 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Ancalagon Posted June 1, 2017 if that's the way we are counting kills someone should farm the chaingunners infinitely to get something like 99000/100000 kills and win the month :) 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Tristan Posted June 1, 2017 As I understand it, adjusting Suitepee's result accordingly puts him at 188/1415 (13%). Perhaps a safe mid-table result. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

elmle Posted June 2, 2017 My first ironman ever. Went in completely blind, ended up completely dead at 96 kills. fda-elmle-distrbia-96.zip I was told about imp cheese but I didnt feel like doing it, maybe I should have lol. Spoiler But then i probably wouldnt have done that super clutch elevator thing near the end. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
ella guro Posted June 2, 2017 (edited) i survived a very difficult encounter with 2% health... only to die right next to a fucking berserk pack =((( i got 247 kills and 3 secrets. i'm not sure how you calculate kills here but the final ratio is in the video anyway (if you adjust it the way Eris does above i think it's 163/1415 or 11.6%). i could have been even more cheap and grinded on the teleporting imps longer but i got bored after awhile. i heard they are infinite here but the overall monster total wasn't going up while they were teleporting in, which made me think they weren't infinite (and were maybe coming from a room later on in the map)? well, whatever. though i wish i would have made it to the berserk pack, i don't know how much longer i would have survived anyway. i actually thought this map was pretty cool, at least for me being someone who normally hates this kind of stuff. maybe i'll revisit in on HMP someday. dl_simc Posted June 2, 2017 First time ever for me too. Got 90 but I was already dead at 82. The recording must be the slowest ever. After 6 minutes of gameplay and 6 countable monsters I had 7% of health. Just tried to play extra careful after losing hard in some points. However got ~70 lost souls with the chainsaw alone. Too bad those aren't counted. 3 hours ago, bzzrak said: That superchaingun has the most pitiful sound a badass weapon like that could've had. Exactly! But it's a super map. Alfonzo Posted June 2, 2017 (edited) The Deal of a Thousand Imps is a trade-off. Just as in The Mucus Flow of CC2, if you spend too much time plinking away at the nested monsters you'll eventually pin yourself into an unwinnable position by running out of ammo. You will, on the other hand, snag some cheap kills and rise into a low-to-mid-table position. Scotty's run is the perfect example, in this case. The true heroes are lower down the table :( @NoisyVelvet Woah, your mind did a very good job of shutting out the colour blue. You must have waltzed passed that plasma rifle at least four times after picking up the BK. Edited June 2, 2017 by Alfonzo I am not a double post. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Crusader No Regret Posted June 2, 2017 (edited) Scouted for 15 minutes on HMP where I managed to die once with a kill count of twelve. Did find the health cache at the start and one secret which I really like. This only helps a little when I record for real, as it turns out. Blind except for those 15 minutes. The size of the download is a decent indicator of how well I did. Chaingunner becomes first monster to score a second kill off me in my Ironman career. DeletedUser Posted June 3, 2017 At long last, here is my eagerly awaited... Spoiler Survival in 46:10! ;D DWIronman_Distribia_BlooditeKrypto.zip I certainly didn't make it look easy, struggling throughout the entirity and exhausting every health cache within sight. While this is one of Death-Destiny's longest maps, I wouldn't place it in his top 5 most lethal. The following I consider more challenging when blind or even when knowledgeable, as they require genuine skill to beat without saves and don't fall victim to the design flaw of being able to cheese fights. Without hesitation the infamous No Chance reserves first place, being based off Erik Alm's Xtreme, which is another notorious wad restricting the target audience to speedrunners solely, it requires foreknowledge on the map layout and encounters to progress, but almost every encounter is close quarters and in your face which demands dexterious skill and intelligent strategy to defeat. The final two maps from Dark Resolution 2008, The Soulscarred Universe and Lich are pure murder even when intimate with the map layout. The former oozes claustrophobia and gives you small room for error due to the limited resources, it forces you into most rooms and denys escape by placing cybers by entrances and devious use of Archviles. The latter borders on ludicrousy denying you armor for half of the map, very tight resource management and the final fights one can argue to be luck based due to their absence of space and is dependant on whether Archviles are aggressive and pin you down. Elysion is a straight forward map from beginning to end, but every encounter is literally in your face and punishes you severely for the slightest margin of error. It again features close quarter slaughter fights you can't escape from and continually flanks the player with DD's trademark teleporter ambushes. Abyssion takes the fifth place for being notoriously cramped with dickish placement of Archviles and Cybers. The latter in ranking from hardest to easiest are Grime, Crimson Horizon and Satan's Angel, excluding the Beesong as I never played that and the map appears to be lost :P Distrubia is distinct as it features an abundance of supplies arranged in health and ammo caches which the player can easily go back to and replenish when needed, which is a stark contrast to DD's other maps which don't incorporate this design feature at all. The secrets reward the player generously for keen observation and are essential due to the power ups stored within, this holds even more weight when you consider the blue armor at the start is the only armor piece not in a secret. As for the encounters, you can see it's oozing with teleporter ambushes so one can repeat the formula of every time a switch is pressed or a corridor is approached, get the fuck out of dodge to avoid being splattered. The brutal encounters are few and far between with the hallway with the Cyb near the beginning, the BFG trap and the infamous ending being the other, but as for the rest of the map it can be approached cautiously and leisurely if one wills it, without the pressure of being locked into a area and encountering a fatal scenario. It is for these reasons I consider Distrubia to be one of his easier maps. 16 Quote Share this post Link to post

Ribbiks Posted June 3, 2017 nice demo bloodite, grats :). After revisiting this map I'm surprised by how much less difficult it seemed than I remembered. that is, if you know how to avoid traps, know where (borderline mandatory?) secrets are located, and from where it's safe to kill annoying sniper mobs... I would've said the two biggest areas that require good execution are the BFG hallway and the final caves, but I didn't realize how OP the invul is in letting you skip to the 3rd cave section. On a side note I encourage those who were put off by UV to give it a play though on HMP, it's a raucously fun map on that setting, even blind. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

SilverIce Posted June 4, 2017 Kek. I seriously considered sitting this one out, then I figured, "what the hell, let's try it." Here is the result: Like a dumbass, I tried to catch an archvile in a crossfire with an arachnotron. In the end: my adjusted kill count was only 55. :( It was fun cheesing that first cyberdemon though. If you're gonna use a smacked-up chaingun, use the one from Valiant. Just sayin'. :p 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

WH-Wilou84 Posted June 4, 2017 Here's my attempt - 435 monsters killed, ~1 hour. As a Death-Destiny fanboi I'm pretty familiar with this map. It's a masterpiece, even if it's not my fave from this author. Funnily enough, the recently-released Stardate 20X7 also has an "infinite turret spawn" gimmick in a trap in its last map, and playing said map a couple weeks ago made me want to replay Disturbia again. Thanks to Alfonzo for giving me the opportunity to do so. :p Made it pretty far, but then things went south. I handled the yellow key quest quite poorly and could never recover, only to be put out of misery by the Cyberdemon in the BFG9000 corridor while trying to sneak past him. Man, what an epic challenge :) I fear I could never handle the ending flesh caves properly anyway, as ammo is at a premium there, but I'd have been glad to reach them. Congrats Bloodite, once again ! Death-Destiny maps difficulty ranking Cool run man :). I pretty much agree with your ranking. Particularly The Soulscarred Universe is a real nightmere, even worse then Lich in some spots (at least for me) due to the cramped fights worsened by obstructive decorative elements in some areas; conversely in Lich you can somewhat move "freely" (also it doesn't have any armor on uv) Beesong should be on the 'high difficulty rank', harder then Elysion for sure Edited June 4, 2017 by Paul977 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
