I love Knee-Deep in the Dead as much as the next guy, but killing mainly possessed humans can only be fun for so long. What made Doom 2 stand out was the addition of new enemies and of course the Super Shotgun, and without that, as much as I love Doom 1, it feels incomplete without them.

I like The Ultimate Doom's vanilla campaign more than Doom 2's. But I can never argue that Doom 2 has a lot better of mods, wads and weapons making it more fun to make wads for. So generally I like to play The Ultimate Doom, and to mod Doom 2.

It's a toss up as far as I'm concerned. I really like the design and sense of progression in the first Doom but the much needed additional monsters in Doom II spice things up enough to keep me interested.

I'll always prefer playing in episodes over playing a heap bunch of maps thrown atop eachother.

Doom 2 for the monsters and the ssg, doom for the episodic structure and map design. Kind of an undead topic here.

First Doom, baby! I don't know why people love the Super Shotgun so much, I find that I always go back to the normal shotgun 'caz it's better long range.

 

Also, the monsters in Doom II as total BS, you would be lying if you said that you like the Arch-vile.

Although the Super Shotgun is the top tier Doom weapon, I just love Doom's campaign.

 

Also, Doom II's enemies are just more annoying than anything else.

They're good at different things. Doom 2 is good for gameplay, Doom 1 is good if you like being wrong and whining about things.

The Super Shotgun is probably my favourite weapon in any first person shooter ever. The Archvile is probably my favourite enemy in any video game ever.

I prefer Doom 1's Knee Deep In The Dead over Doom 2's Early McGee maps. But I liked the more experimental and varied gameplay of Doom 2's later levels over Doom 1's fairly samey, though still fun, E2 and E3. Final Doom is better than both for me, though.
