Captain red pants Posted August 19, 2023 Replaying XCom 2012 after getting utterly humiliated in the first few missions of Xenonauts :( 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Daytime Waitress Posted August 19, 2023 What a coincidence, I'm getting utterly humiliated in Xenotilt! I can't overstate how good this game feels, though. Right out of the gate it's as good as Demon's Tilt, but brasher, more vindictive. What would have been the most frenetic moments from the first game now feel more commonplace, and the most frenetic moments in this one are really over-the-top. The screen shaking through a storm of explosions, trash mobs getting chewed up by concentrated laser fire, boss enemies shattering apart as you hammer on them over and over and over - I love digital replicas of real pinball tables, but this is what it video game pinball is meant to feel like. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Wavy Posted August 19, 2023 Touhou 19 ~ Unfinished Dream of All Living Ghost Currently grinding through it with all the characters. It's an interesting and fun game yet it has absolutely terrible balancing between all the characters. Speaking of characters, all the new characters featured are awesome design wise. Quake 2 I've honestly never gave Q2 an actual playthrough other than playing bits and pieces until now with the remaster. The remaster plays fantastically and fixes the slightly offset aiming which always bugged me with the original. I'm not far into it yet as I haven't had the time but from what I've played it's honestly quite good so far. I'll get back to it ASAP. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
ReaperAA Posted August 19, 2023 Just completed the Marathon mod Rubicon X. Took me quite a while because there around 80-ish maps with branching paths/storylines. While not on the level of Apotheosis X in terms of gameplay polish and level design, I still really enjoyed it. Definitely a worth successor to Marathon Infinity in terms of being wild and going places. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Rudolph Posted August 20, 2023 (edited) Okay, it turns out that Royal Stone, the Japan-only sequel to Crystal Warriors, has an English fan translation! So far, it is AWESOME! Every issue I had with Crystal Warriors has been addressed: the interface has been improved, the story is actually engaging and the visuals are easily on par with a Sega Genesis title, which is quite impressive for a Game Gear! It might still not be quite as good as Shining Force, it is a pleasant surprise nonetheless and it is a shame that it was never released outside of Japan. hybridial Posted August 20, 2023 Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew. Mimimi are three for three in delivering the best stealth games anyone has in like the last decade at least. I wasn't too sold on the theme, which is basically Pirates of the Carribbean mixed with a bit of Warhammer (the antagonist faction gives me that vibe anyway) but eh, I'm not big on westerns and Desperados 3 was great. This has been no less great so far. Still playing Rise of the Triad, and I am so glad Nightdive produced such a quality remaster of the game, it's let me appreciate it fully. It certainly puts the cult in cult classic hur hur. I got The Black Labyrinth for Amid Evil, will probably play that once I have more time for it. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Lila Feuer Posted August 20, 2023 Doing wand starts for Heretic, since I've never done it before. Most levels aren't really that problematic although you might have to run around for a little bit without decent weapons. E4M9 was 35 minutes of "how the hell did I manage to do that." All I can say is those rows of crushers really helped my iron lich problem at the beginning. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
enigma101 Posted August 20, 2023 Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. I played Uncharted 4 when it came out and meant to play Lost Legacy but only got about 1-2 hours in before I stopped. I found the Uncharted: Legacy Collection on PS Plus a few days ago and decided to download it. So far, the game is pretty good, like any Uncharted game really. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
scalliano Posted August 21, 2023 Amid Evil: The Black Labyrinth. Yeah, it's more AE, and it is glorious. Fuck that dragon boss, though... 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
St. Mildly Annoyed Posted August 22, 2023 I've been playing Elden ring a year after it came out. It's way more massive than I thought. Spoiler Limgrave isn't event a quarter of the map and I accidentally discovered altus plateau on my first run, which made me realize I was only 30 percent of the way through the whole game, including caelid. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
MS-06FZ Zaku II Kai Posted August 22, 2023 Jagged Aliance 2 and Quake IV (because I felt nostalgic) For Jagged Aliance 2, I had to restart the game 2 times, because it was quite overwhelming at first with it's extensive mechanics, but now the game is far more enjoyable after reading some tips and guides. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Optimus Posted August 23, 2023 I finally got myself into playing King's Field 4 on my PS2. This was my first attempt to play these games and at first I found the controls awkward (rotating speed is slow no matter what, makes it hard to look around corners fast enough or do some extra checks behind walls for exploration/secrets) but later I got used to it and started playing. It grew up on me. It starts casually then the atmosphere, enemies and riddles and backstory gets better. There were few points I reached in the world that I was in awe and started to realize how the central spire in the ancient city interconnected with everything on four directions and three levels through bridges and how amazing the level design gets, let alone the atmosphere and music. It was somewhere there when I first found the ancient city that I had an appreciation about the game. Then later when I reached from the dark dungeons to the woods. I finally finished it and now I am making another playthrough/video capture on PCSX2. It's amazing and now I want to go back and play older King's Field on PS1 and also other From Softwater games of similar calibre. Also, I see most inspirations made it to DS2 specifically. There are things reminding me of DS1, but DS2 is mostly related. p.s. I also look on to play some other From Soft. I have Evergrace and Eternal Ring which I got cheaply. I will look for Shadow Tower next. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Mr Masker Posted August 24, 2023 (edited) Started playing The Outer Wilds, game kinda went under my radar at first but I then heard how everyone really likes it so I finally gave it a shot. Such a unique experience so far... Besides some basic controls instructions, the game basically just lets you off the leash to explore anywhere you want and no matter what it always feels like I'm going in some sort of right direction. While I found some lore less interesting than others, I generally found it rewarding to find new information for the Ship Log. I'll keep my thoughts brief as don't want to say too much, so people reading this can experience it completely fresh. Give it a shot if you ever get chance, maybe you'll enjoy it too! I don't currently own the DLC but I might get it at some point. Edited August 24, 2023 by Mr Masker 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

ChaseC7527 Posted August 25, 2023 Postal, if you couldn't tell. Excellent game series, anybody who dismisses it on grounds of: "it's just vulgar for the sake of vulgarity" are sorely mistaken. The first game has an excellent social commentary and overall message, and the second one's just fun. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
SirPootis Posted August 25, 2023 (edited) Armored Core IV: Fires of Rubicon just came out today and holy fuck it's so goddamn fun. Dark Souls and Elden Ring never really did it for me, but a mech combat game made by FromSoft (and in the current gen)? Sign me up. Also bought Zortch after seeing Civvie's video on it, and that's pretty damn good too. Edited August 25, 2023 by SirPootis 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

I have heard the developers ended up distancing themselves from the former and that the latter was just not good. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Rudolph Posted August 26, 2023 Just finished Royal Stone for the Game Gear. Truly a gem that should have been given a release outside Japan. Too bad, it did not get another sequel; given how much of an improvement over Crystal Warriors the game is, I am certain a third game would have been brilliant. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

BGreener Posted August 29, 2023 I've gotten hard into the Wolf3D this year so cheers to @TheSlipgateStudios for the unintended map rec! Recently I've been having fun with that new Giant Murdermachine Simulator i.e. Armored Core VI. I wonder if @MS-06FZ Zaku II Kai has any interest in it with their lovely taste in mechs? 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

Currently on Spear of Destiny myself after doing what was probably my dozenth run or so of the original game. Doesn't hook me for as long as Doom does nowadays but I still have a soft spot for Wolf. Need to get back to finishing my episode 1 replacement that I abandoned in 2017, it was almost complete, with just three floors remaining. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

hybridial Posted September 2, 2023 I'm still playing Shadow Gambit, which has quite a lot of content to it. I started Aliens Dark Descent, and got through the first proper full level, Dead Hills. I really like it, it captures the essence of the movie as an interactive experience, and is a fine alternative take on the concept of survival horror. Symphony of War also got it's DLC and I'm also replaying that. I'm still very impressed by how good it is in every way for the developer's first game, and the fact it's built on RPGmaker. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
