Playing through Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, on ME2.  Oh my goodness was Mass Effect mediocre.  I got bored on playthrough 2 on my 360 years ago, I figured it was just overexposure.  Nope.  But 2 is absolutely incredible in comparison (though its aiming mechanics are bad; shoulder swapping should have been built-in to this alleged remaster)...and I thought 2 was inferior at first because there wasn't as much planetary exploration.  Yeah, let's not go there.

Once I'm done 2, I might go back to Skyrim, or dive into ME3.  I remember 3 being a little slow to get into, but a wild ride once I was in, all the way up to that bullshit ending.

Having an obsession with Dead Cells since Caveblazers burned me with its relentless punishment and I needed a Risk of Rain style fix, that king's guard boss is a son of a bitch however, thought I needed three health flask charges to win on my second attempt, turns out I'm gonna need four.

Got into Quake, been building some maps for that.

Also got into that piece of garbage called Path of Exile again... LS Champion is pretty fun (and a nice change of league starter versus p conc pathfinder like i've done for the past 4 or 5 leagues)

lel I just came in to post about how much I'm actually enjoying it now that I'm not trying to run it on a potato laptop. Even after over one hundred hours, it still feels like I have no idea wtf I'm doing with this game, but poison concoction pathfinder has been solid enough to get me into maps for the first time proper, so that's nice. The playstyle's not really what I'm after, though, so I'll probably start to run something new over the weekend (thinking heralds).

I'm actually enjoying league, GGG has made huge strides in making the game feel a lot closer to its roots (ie not just zoomzoom as fast as you can for a million years).  P Conc actually got me every boss last league except uber ubers, so it's not a horrible build to get through to end game.

Oh it's definitely great - I'm just not feeling it right now. It's given me enough confidence with my knowledge of the game to reach out for different playstyles, though, and I'm really grateful for that.

This is heartening to hear, and I'm glad you're finding it enjoyable. As a beginner who only dabbled in Expedition league and made a comeback with LoK, I often find it frustrating to sort through the noise of the community and "what the game's supposed to be".

Recently just finished going through MDK 1 + 2.

And now I'm forcing myself through MDK2 on Jinkies! difficulty but I'm abusing the feathers out of it via cheat engine + Lua scripts to let me spawn in any item I want for shits and giggles.

Wanted to start some bar fights, so reinstalled LEGO Star Wars because you can start some fun fights in the Mos Eisley Cantina lol. But seriously, playing this game again has been a blast. It's nice to play just a fun, silly game once in awhile.

Tried Guild Wars 2 now its on Steam. It seems OK but it just reminded me the only MMO is ever truly enjoyed was Guild Wars 1. It's more like an absolutely huge CRPG that you can play with other people if you want. So I just started playing that instead, can't believe how well the graphics have stood up and its still active after what 17 years.

I will have to say that this is the first time I've ever seen that meme, and I did laugh. Heartily. And I kind of feel the same way with most games ARPG's, and I've kind of disliked them since Diablo 2. Because I poured hours into that game, only to find out that I had FUBAR'd myself by not going with magic resistance when everything I met up with until a certain boss was certainly beatable with a Barbarian. And then I met a boss that used magic, and I needed resistance that I didn't have, and couldn't farm, and was fucked. And the skill system wasn't terribly difficult, but I focused on physical attacks, not magical attacks, without ranged attacks or magical resistance. And I felt like a dumb bitch.

Same experience, except it was Titan Quest. Made a build that got me through to the end boss only to find it was impossible with the build I'd made, no respec just 50-60 hrs down the drain. Obviously didn't return for more.

I tried POE few years ago, skill trees insane, basically you have to spend hrs making a build before you even start or just copy someone else's.

So when it comes to arpgs I just stick with casual old Diablo 3, play a season every now and again on my Switch, which I strangly prefer to the PC version, think the controls make it feel more actiony.

I really love the first few hours of Path of Exile, where you are washed ashore and all you have to defend yourself against reanimated corpses and sea monsters are rusty swords and clubs and shield made out of driftwood. But the further you venture into the continent, the more conventional and thus forgettable it becomes. Also, for my sanity's sake, I had to give up on the game altogether after I kept getting disconnected. Games like Torchlight II have offline play, but I usually get bored with them before the end of Act I.

This sucks, as I do not want anything to do with Blizzard these days, yet Diablo III remains the best isometric A-RPG I have played as of yet.

You'd simultaneously love and hate PoE, then. The skilltree is stupid large and certain builds simply appear more viable than others, so you may find yourself hitting a wall depending on what route you take. But to mitigate that you get an abundance of respec points, and a lot of builds lean on this - armour will get you through the campaign, but heading to endgame you'll want to focus on evasion or whatever. It's a frightening, frankly overwhelming amount to take in as a n00b, and I tend to only follow step-by-step guides that are super hand-holdy; but I'm starting to appreciate the sandbox approach the game gives those who put the hours in to learn everything it has to offer.

That's understandable - nothing's gonna kill a game quicker than constant dc's for something that you'll (probably) predominantly be playing solo.

But I'm kinda surprised you felt that way about the overall atmosphere and aesthetic, because the overarching plot of a colonising empire being torn apart by rebellion, the various factions tripping over themselves to slit each others throats, the little bits of lore that are scattered about for those that care to dig them up: that's the stuff that kept me grounded in the game when I was struggling with my first ineffectual build. It all got a bit silly from Act 6 when you were slapping major gods down left, right and centre, but there's a care and attention to the worldbuilding that definitely makes it unconventional, from my point of view.

I have probably 25 hours in Titan Quest at this point, but most of it is restarting because I messed up my build, so I feel the pain. When I made my post I was thinking "Well, maybe I should restart Titan Quest, I can probably do it right this time!", but no. I don't think I would. ARPG's aren't for me.

Wait, do overarching gameplay mods on ZDoom count?

'Cause if they do, well, I'm slightly addicted to Hideous Destructor as it stands, lol.

Absolutly.

I remember being out of Puberty and being out of the "i have to like all the adult Stuff" Phase,

its nice to be old enough to like cute "kids" Stuff and having Fun haha

I think it is absolutly necessary to have a quick fun Game between longer lasting or other intensive Games.

This helps not getting exhausted.

Btw. i can't play any grey colored Games any more, i automaticly start thinking: "Ah, they try being cool and adult and hide boring straight forward Gameplay." .

Topic:

Turtles Cowabunga Collection and Shredders Revenge.

Love all the Bonus Stuff in the Cowabunga Collection.

It is not uninteresting, but it is all just told in the least compelling way - one that leaves you vulnerable to attacks as well.

Say whatever you will about Diablo III's story and lore, but its delivery is much better in that regard.

I might have to put calm the Greentide down for now, since all this Path of Exile talk made me realize it received gamepad support awhile ago, hoo boy! Besides the lack of the "Blizzard-tier" animations and despite some of it's own "free to play" traps, PoE is everything else I wanted a sequel to Diablo 2 to be.

I'm with you on some of the "god killing" silliness, but the circumstances surrounding it in addition to the other story bits added from the Oriath update really sold the game for me. It's a delightfully twisted and well-written world. I especially enjoy the story from the perspective of the marauder as he discovers the truth of the Karui who arrived to Wraeclast.

I'll probably mess around on the standard server before deciding to start up the new league, but I'm also interested into trying some SSF so I have a few decisions to make...

By some weird twist in fate, I've been playing Pharaoh again. The last time I played it must have been at least 6 years ago, since I could never get it to run on my last laptop. For the half of a person that cares, I played through the base game's 'peaceful' missions on normal difficulty (last time I played was on easy). I started again to play the military ~half of the game, which is a fair bit more stressful since I'm no good at the military aspect. I also started again the peaceful missions, but turned the difficulty up a notch, to hard.

Needless to say, it didn't take long to be reminded why I loved the game in the past. I wonder when I'll get back to Zeus and get to playing Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom.

Wholly agreed. After multiple playthroughs as Ranger, with her offhand, "this isn't the Karui I know", I'd almost forgotten what a gut-punch Kaom's Dream was.

Yeah, I'd been away for about six months, so even just getting accustomed to the interface again through Standard was definitely the way to go. What are you keen to run in SSF?

I hate how they changed the character selection screen: each character bitterly reflecting on the circumstances that led to their exile while waiting inside the prison ship's brig has since been replaced with a dry reading of your "sins" by what used to be the game's final boss in a bland-looking palace environment. Path of Exile 2's new character selection screen shown in the trailer - all characters standing on the gallows waiting to be hung, with your pick being the only one to escape - looks much cooler, but I bet it is still subject to change and it remains a far cry from the game's initial premise.
