Yeah, I'd been away for about six months, so even just getting accustomed to the interface again through Standard was definitely the way to go. What are you keen to run in SSF?

I'm on the fence with something steady like a juggernaut or slayer, but I'm probably going to do something silly with a berserker. Slamming things as some shirtless angry dude ended up being my favorite thing to do in D3 and PoE. (Not in D2 though, I love playing an elemental zealot and I do it every halloween. Just a few weeks away!)

That was my first abortive build, because the only piece of advice I could actually make sense of as a n00b was, "pick something that looks cool until you get a feel for the game." Build was shite and I struggled to reach level 50 and the end of acts, but goddamn if leaping into the middle of a pack and scattering - or straight up obliterating - everything surrounding you isn't viscerally compelling in this game.

I honestly want to go back to running a Marauder (Chieftain specifically) but melee is in such a sorry state with fights being centered on high mobility and fast DPS.  I just wanna splat things with my giant 2h mace.

Just a little update, I have gotten through T16 maps (some even modestly juiced) on about a 50c investment with the LS Champion I'm running this league.

I went to purchase Demon Turf on Steam, but before I did, I noticed that my laptop's processor wasn't good enough. I was kinda surprised since this is a indie 3D platformer we're talking about here. So I went and bought my first ever gaming PC, just to play a $30 indie game, lol. But hey, now I can play a ton of stuff on this thing! As for the game, it's pretty solid so far. Platformers are my favs, and this one feels pretty good. Not a ton of combat, just a bunch of short and tight platforming levels. Good chunk of side stuff to do too. And it's pretty charming!

Your description made it sound like it'd be right up my alley, so I went and watched a youtube video. And yeah, I'm pretty sure it's right up my alley, it looks like a charming blast of a game to play. I'll have to check it out when I have a chance. And yeah, getting a decent computer is never a bad thing, and if you had the means to do it, you won't regret it.

And due to the earlier discussion in this thread of ARPG's, I decided to reinstall Grim Dawn last night. It's actually a pretty darn good game, I bought it in early access and enjoyed the hell out of it. But I figured before I got too far, I'd rather stop and wait for it to see it's final release before diving in. Then I completely forgot about it, and I tried to play it again a few years ago, never got far. Other things came up. So yeah, a game I bought back in 2013 or 2014, that was finished in 2016, I'm finally getting around to. Sometimes I hate Steam. I have so many games I'll probably never finish... and plenty that I've never touched because I got them in Humble Bundles along with games that I actually did want.

Usually I'm the first to point out when indie devs are graciously discounting their wares, but the sheer amount of times Grim Dawn has been on sale has actually given me a negative opinion on it - like they're keen to just get whatever they can for it? Typing that out, I realise how stupid that actually sounds - I'mma probably give it a shot next time it's on special.

I'll let you know. I did look up sales history, and it looks like they really do discount it quite often. But it also has some DLC's that I wasn't really aware of, so obviously I can't vouch for them, and maybe they do routinely discount the base game to get people hooked so they buy the DLC. But the base game is enjoyable, and it looks like it was on sale for 4.99 back in June.

I probably wouldn't pay full price for it at this point, especially when it goes on sale so often apparently. But if you can get it for five bucks, I would recommend it. Although I can't give a full recommendation, because I've only played about 10 hours, but what I have played, I've enjoyed. It scratches that itch of watching numbers go up, picking things up, and getting carpal tunnel from clicking over and over and over. And it does have a relatively in depth skill system, and you can have a dual class build. I mean, a game that lets you become a Pyromancer can't be all bad, right?

It's not quite as polished as Diablo 2, but it's not quite as bad as Titan Quest in the presentation. I liked Titan Quest, but it looked like a budget title, Grim Dawn looks a bit better than that. But of course they didn't have Blizzard money to throw around while making it, however it still looks pretty darn good. And it has 93% positive reviews on Steam, and I certainly enjoy it more than I enjoyed Diablo 3.

Night Delivery and The Closing ShiftAlways been a sucker for Chilla's games, but the addition of actual gameplay and collectibles (which I'm also a sucker for) really adds a whole new dimension. Not to mention the dank, rainy, generic Japanese alleys really make me nostalgic for my time in Kyoto.

I've watched playthroughs of some of Chilla's art games through a content creator who plays a lot of horror games. I really like the amount of setup and payoff in their games. Even though they don't tend to have stellar gameplay( or in some cases go on for too long), they make up for it in atmosphere and telling genuinely creepy stories, like in Okaeri, one of their first games, with an ending that hits hard.

They rely on atmosphere, rather than excessive usage of jumpscares. I tend to prefer horror games with a focus on atmosphere, rather than excessive use of jumpscares. A threatening atmosphere stays with you a lot longer than a jumpscare. Feeling uncomfortable and on edge is something I find a lot more fun than things jumping out at me. But hey, that's just me :P

Agreed. Personally, probably cause 99% of the games I play are visual novels, I tend not to care much for gameplay, as long as the atmosphere is right.

This probably reflects in my Doom preferences too - to me, combat is a distant second to visuals and mood.

A 3D platformer using rotational sprites? “Pretty charming” indeed! I love the way this game looks and I’ll be looking into it.

Haven't played very much outside of Doom lately - I sort of need mental energy for other things - but Fashion Police Squad has been eating up my time! The developer posted here but I was already full-aware of it. Definitely worth your time if you actually have a sense of, you know, humor.

I tried playing Call of Duty Warfare on my new laptop. I downloaded the Battle.net launcher, I had to get a Battle.net account and an Activision account (I still had my old one from when I played Call of Duty: Black Ops and COD:Ghosts that still worked), downloaded the game itself, waited several minutes to jump into a game, died, waited in the Gulag, died in the Gulag, waited to respawn, respawned, died. Rinse. Repeat.

Having to need 2 accounts should have been a warning to me, but I played about 1.5-2 hours of the game until I uninstalled the game afterwards.

There's such a huge skill gap between the hardcore fans and complete newbies and people who had played COD in the past but are jumping right back in with this game.

I live under a rock (quite possibly the largest of all rocks) so I'm finally getting around to Skyrim. More than a decade late but I picked up the newest rerelease a couple weeks ago on a whim and I've been binging it like hell. I really missed out big time by ignoring it for so long. Fantasy settings like this are kind of a turnoff for me but to my surprise it's been real easy to get invested. Big fan of the exploration and all the pretty snowy areas around the map.

I finished Solasta: Crown of the Magister last night, the initial campaign anyway. Had a good time, it might have its faults but it's far... far... faaaaar closer to my idea of a fun time than the Divinity or Pathfinder games manage.

I did tell myself I wouldn't jump right into the Lost Valley expansion but... well I probably am, with a new party since it starts at level 1 again.

Kinda debating getting Cyberpunk. It's on sale. Now that I have a legit gaming PC, I want to try a big AAA game on it. I heard 2077 was pretty good and the PC version was (relatively) bug-free.

Other than that, been playing Holocure. It's a free Vampire Survivors clone based on the Hololive VTubers. It's incredibly addicting.

I don't know why I disrespect my free time so badly, I keep sinking more time into Path of Exile still - my LS Champion might finally be able to take out base Sirus now (was able to do a couple of the other Elderslayers although those were a bit scuffed.)  Did Eater and Exarch already, just have to do Maven and Uber Elder and then I will have all voidstones and unlimited T16 maps.

This is the second HD texture pack that RainaAudron has made of Soul Reaver. The first one consisted solely of AI upscales, but this time around RainaAudron put more effort into it, she got in touch with some of the designers who worked on the game and tracked down a lot of the original sources for the textures. Still not official but its as good as a fan project can get, in my opinion. And an official remaster might be a possibility, given some recent news:

Played the Sakuya Doom game on Steam that came out today, and by played I mean beat in its entirety within 45 minutes and promptly refunded because the game was pretty bad. For a game where you play as a maid, the entire experience is remarkably messy and lackluster.

I've been playing it a bit since @TheMagicMushroomMan so kindly brought it to my attention. I would've never even thought to look for something like this, but it actually turned out really damn good. I might be biased because I loved Soul Reaver, and Legacy of Kain, and it's one of those criminally underused franchises, but it still plays pretty well. It's based on the Dreamcast port (and yay for me, I actually still have a copy of Soul Reaver for Dreamcast, so I'm not a pirate!), but it's not terribly clunky using a 360 controller.

However, the controls are still clunky, it's a PS1 and Dreamcast game so you can't expect miracles, and I would kill for a Y look, but it works pretty well. I remapped the camera to pan left and right from the D-Pad to the right joystick, and that's pretty much all I had to change. And the 60FPS helps quite a bit. But the movement still seems to be kind of fluid compared to other similar games at the time. Tomb Raider was a clunky mess, and I died more times playing 1 & 2 due to bad controls than enemies, the same with Shadowman. I really think Soul Reaver aged well... assuming you played it when it first came out. I would absolutely love to see a new game in the Legacy of Kain series, but I'm sure that'll happen at the same time we get a new Gargoyle's Quest/Demon's Crest game.

Been playing NEEDY STREAMER OVERLOAD (yes, all capitalized, it's not me yelling like a madwoman) and it's a RIOT.

Completely picks apart and laughs at the charred remains of the steaming pile of shit that the whole Vtuber / OnlyFans / TikTok / Twitch streamer scene is. Highly reccomended.

Just started Dread Delusion again. Adored the demo when it first dropped, and purchased it the instant it came out, but I haven't found time for it until today.

Very simple indie RPG, with a vaguely King's Field-ish/Morrowind-but-on-the-PSX graphical style and dog-rough collision detection that leads to jank combat. And while the palette and use of a wobbly texture filter for "PSX visuals" is obviously not going to be to everyone's tastes, the graphical choices and world-building as a whole creates a completely alien atmosphere. Mechanically, it's simple and easy to understand; but aesthetically it makes the player feel that they don't understand how the rules of this world full of floating islands work... so they have to explore and interact with it all. And that is something that an RPG hasn't made me feel compelled to do in a long, long time.

Honestly, if it weren't for motion sickness, I could easily get lost in this little pocket dimension for hours.
