Perdition's Gate Resurgence (Midis needed)

I wanted to try myself in serious midi doings some day too. Besides, I planned to use MIDI for my furure project I'm about to work after some rest.

I have a couple experimental Egyptian-style songs laying around on my computer that I could touch up and submit for use in this wad if you'd like!! Haven't used them for anything significant yet so they're all yours

Hey everybody, it's been a little while since the last update, but don't worry plenty of work has been happening behind the scenes. Wraith777 was suffering from some PC issues for the past month and a half so while I was waiting for him to return to finish maps 29 & 30 I took the time to start the final vanilla testing phase. So far I've been through maps 1-15 plus 31 & 32. So as far as I am concerned those maps are currently ready to be uploaded to IDGames. I did have to make minor changes to almost all of those maps, but that's to be expected with vanilla. Maps 9, 10, & 15 went through more significant changes though, mostly with the visuals to keep a bit more visual consistency across the wad. There's been a few additional changes beyond that, midis by HexenMapper now appear on maps 1, 5, 9, & 10. There might be additional changes beyond that, but I can't remember off the top of my head so they would be pretty minor things.

 

For those who want to check out the current status of the wad a new Alpha build is available here & in the OP.

 

There's still quite a bit left to be done before this wad is finished. I'll try to finish vanilla testing maps 16-20 before the end of the month & hopefully by that time Wraith will have finished map 29 & started working on map 30. In March I'll finish vanilla testing maps 21-30. Beyond the mapping the main things that need to be done are getting the rest of the midis & writing the story text for all of the CWILV's. If everything goes well I fully expect to see this wad finished sometime in May.

Hey everybody, it's been a long time since the last update, so I figured that I should let everyone know what's going on.

 

So shortly after the post I made on February 18th up until the past couple of weeks I have been taking a near complete break from Doom. During this period all that was done on PGR was that I got a few midis from CammyBanana & Eris Falling. I've been slowly getting back into it lately & now progress is moving along at a steady, but pretty slow pace. Here's where the wad stands at the moment.

 

Episode 1: 100% done & ready for idgames.

 

Epsode 2:

-Map 19 & Map 20 are not yet vanilla compatible, but both are very close. Wraith worked on the map recently, but is currently inactive for the time being. dt_ will be making some changes to map 20 sometime this week or next week.

-Once the last 2 maps are vanilla compatible I will send maps 12-20 off to Doomkid so that he can do multiplayer thing placement for all of them, this will take his roughly a month to do.

-I just talked with Stewboy this week, he has had difficulties starting his midis, but he believes that he should get them all done during the next few month's.

-I haven't messaged AD_79 recently in regards to his 2 midis for the episode & his E3 midi, so I'm not sure where he stands at the moment.

-Lastly I have only written the story for the intermission graphic after map 12, so 13-20 still remain to be done. It's actually a lot harder to write a good story with such limited space than you would think :P

 

Episode 3:

-Map 29 remains unfinished, but it should only need texturing work to complete it. Wraith hasn't worked on the map at all this year.

-Map 30 has yet to be started.

-Maps 21-28 long with 29 & 30 when I eventually get them all need to be tested for vanilla compatibility, this should only take a day for each one, but it will take longer if I end up finding any overflows.

-I just recently talked with Yakfak about joining the project as a midi composer, he said that he will take a look at what maps are available after finishing his current project.

-None of the story has been written for this episode.

 

So overall there's still quite a bit that needs to be done. I think that it's been a slow year for everyone so we're going to finish off this project at a liesurly pace. Will we be done by the end of the year? I suppose that it's possible, but I think shooting for ealrier in 2022 is a safer bet for now.

Oop sorry, my focus has been elsewhere for a while, apologies for the massive delay :P If early next year is the target, I should be able to write those tracks later on this year once I get work on a couple big projects dealt with.

I was playing and found this, don't know if is an oversite or a bug but is something.

(I used this to record the demo: prboom-plus -iwad doom2.wad -file PGR_Alpha0.4.wad -complevel 2 -skill 4 -warp 16 -nomonsters -record oversite2)

(Also I use PrBoomPlus-2.5.1.4)

Hope you don't mind me saying that this project looks incredible. Perdition's Gate and Hell2Pay are some of my favorite 90s wads. I'm excited to play this and if you ever make a Hell2Pay inspired wad, or another Perdition's Gate inspired wad, count me in. 

 

Hope this project goes smoothly!

First 5 maps played so far, I love it. Maybe if a Hell2Pay 2 wad is ever made, how about making replacement sprites for all the enemies that'll capture the same jank feel lol. Not saying H2P was awful, it's surprisingly good, it's just the enemies really have the 90s feel, and I mean the weird funny kind of feel.

I'd actually prefer to keep them and just use dehacked to make the really unique. Lots of potential there.

hopefully we can call it something like "Hell to Pay 2: Hell In Debt" :P

Hey everyone, it's been awhile since the last update, but there has been quite a bit of work done on the project this past month. For episode 2 all of the map are now fully vanilla compatible & they have been sent off to Doomkid last week for multiplayer balancing. I've made it up to map 16 with the story & expect to be up to map 20 before the weekend. The biggest task that remains for episode 2 is getting midis from Stewboy & AD_79. For episode 3 the tasks that remain are largely the same as they were in the update from August of last year. The only difference is that all maps are now fully vanilla compatible. Also SynDoom has joined the project to make a few midis for this episode.

 

So in short the major tasks left to be done are getting maps 29 & 30 from Wraith, along with getting midis for the open spots in Episodes 2 & 3

Hey everyone, another progress update from behind the scenes. Things have been pretty slow for the most part with the status of what needs to be done largely being the same. However there have been a few big changes to the project, as several people who have been involved with this project for a long time know, I have been pretty unhappy with most of my maps in this project. Over the past few month's I made the decision to remove my Maps 4, 23, & 24 from the project along with making large changes to Map 3. Also the decision was made to also remove Map 15 by Scorpius due to several testers saying that it was too similar in design to Perdition's Gate Map 13. That's quite a few maps to remove so late into development, but don't worry A. Gamma, dt_, & Gothic have already stepped up & replaced Maps 15, 23, & 24.

 

That does leave Map 4 as needing to be replaced. If anyone want's to take a shot at it let me know.

While I do consider myself somewhat of an amateur in mapping, I would love to take a stab at it. Granted, I won't access to my editing tools for a moment, at most a few weeks, but I can always take that time to plan it out.

You can have it. Don't worry about being new to mapping. There are quite a few amateur mappers who have made maps for this project. I'm always here to help make sure things are up to standards.

Great! If time permits it, I can make a MIDI for it as well. Speaking of MIDIs, MAP24's MIDI is still a WIP but I've been getting along on it pretty well.

Are you remixing MAP31 from the original PG? I only have a version ripped from the wad with Slade.

Or are you remixing MAP31 from this project, my midi "Cold"?

It's supposed to be the original PD MAP31 but if you're already on it that's...odd. Might be a communication problem somewhere. 

 

EDIT: I got confused. I'm remixing MAP31's MIDI...for MAP32. You're good.

Hey everyone, well it's been over a year since anything has happened in this thread so I figure it's probably time to update everyone on what's going on. Back in February I got a finalized version of Map 29 from Wraith. The plan then was for me to start working on Map 30, which I actually did do for a couple weeks before I kinda got depressed and gave up on it. So in April I got back in contact with Wraith & gave him the go ahead to start working on Map 30 himself. I haven't seen him on Doomworld since then so I'm not sure of the current status of the map at the moment.

 

As for Map 4 I'm going to have to open this one up for submissions once again. If anyone want's to take a stab at it let me know.

Let's hope that everything is fine with Wraith.

 

I have been following the development for a long time since the announcement and am looking forward to its completion. I am sure that you will make a Great Successor to "Perdition's Gate"!

Can I take a stab on MAP04? After Dean of Doom episode I've come to appreciate Perdition's Gate for what it was trying to pull off, besides I was about to play it for the first time anyway. Also I'm experimenting with FL Studio to make my own custom MIDIs, so maybe I can compose one or two for the project, if you don't mind.
