Orchid87 Posted November 28, 2017 (edited) Could anyone post a list of essential Megawads for vanilla Doom? Quality stuff that's on par with id iWADs or better. Only vanilla engine please. Thanks! Edited November 28, 2017 by Orchid87 Confused iWADS with Megawads 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
MFG38 Posted November 28, 2017 The only IWADs that exist for vanilla Doom are Doom, Doom 2 and the two episodes of Final Doom. As such, I'm inclined to believe you meant PWADs. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Orchid87 Posted November 28, 2017 Oh yes, my bad! I meant Megawads! 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Misty Posted November 28, 2017 Back to Saturn x should work under vanilla Doom. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Pegleg Posted November 28, 2017 Define megawads. Do you require 32 maps for it to be an "essential" megawad? Or can any multi-level wads qualify? For instance, Suspended in Dusk is only 4 levels long, but it won a cacoward. I think the award presentation said something like, "You won't believe you're playing vanilla Doom." 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

mrthejoshmon Posted November 28, 2017 (edited) Is "The Rebirth" vanilla friendly? If so then I'd also recommend that one. Edited November 28, 2017 by mrthejoshmon 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
Diabolución Posted November 28, 2017 No End in Sight is vanilla friendly save for certain levels of episode 4. https://www.doomworld.com/files/file/18645-aaa/ Another two vanilla megawads for The Ultimate Doom. I haven't tested if they are compatible with Doom Registered (certain wads without E4Mx levels have TEXTUREx/PNAMES lumps which need the missing SKY4). https://www.doomworld.com/files/file/15645-aaa/ https://www.doomworld.com/files/file/18667-aaa/ 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

The best UDoom megawad of all time if you ask me. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post

DANZA Posted November 29, 2017 I would add, Perdition's Gate and Hell To Pay, two commercial products wich are pretty fun, great music too. PS: I recommend creating a patch to change the enemies and sounds back in Hell To Pay though, the new sprites are questionable. It comes handy in Freedoom too. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Grazza Posted November 29, 2017 (edited) Some good lists here. Off the top of my head, only two stand-outs are absent (if restricting it to vanilla-compatible full megawads, and avoiding 'novelty' wads): H2H_Xmas Extremal Maybe also: Wonderful Doom Edited November 29, 2017 by Grazza 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
SiFi270 Posted November 30, 2017 I've made it my mission to point out whenever it comes up that Perdition's Gate has officially been as free as any other Megawad for a while now. But as far as I know, Hell to Pay is considerably more elusive. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Diabolución Posted December 22, 2017 https://www.doomworld.com/files/file/18100-aaa/ https://www.doomworld.com/files/file/18616-aaa/ <--- It seems to be 100% vanilla, despite being on the Ports directory. https://www.doomworld.com/files/file/18383-aaa/ Ok, this is not megawad, actually. But it is quality stuff. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
