Kinsie Posted May 9, 2022 There are about as many histories of DNF's development as there were people who worked on it, so if this manages to reach public hands without getting crash-tackled by a dozen lawyer/linebackers from Embracer and/or Epic, than it'll be great to witness an actual objective, factual piece of the game's development instead of another ten years of Rashomon-ass he-said/he-said nonsense. And if it doesn't? Well, at least these new screenshots and clips provide a bit of fresh insight, and I'd love to see someone take some cues from them and build something new from their inspiration. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Rudolph Posted May 9, 2022 (edited) If the leak does get released and gets finished and polished by fans (much like the original STALKER was with Lost Alpha), then hopefully it gets retitled to "DUKE NUKEM NEVER". :P Edited May 9, 2022 by Rudolph 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Eligos Posted May 9, 2022 (edited) Well, this DNF situation escalated quickly. We just keep getting more and more information. This guy's keeping a good catalog of all the stuff we're finding: https://twitter.com/juanlurve Edited May 9, 2022 by Eligos 6 Quote Share this post Link to post

BGreener Posted May 9, 2022 Well this is a surprise! Those weapons look absolutely delicious, with their textures and especially their animations. I’m very curious how this will unravel but I’m being very wary. I don’t want my hopes getting too high here…! 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
SplinkWizard Posted May 9, 2022 I hope there are no more complications. I'm pretty excited to see where this goes. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Rudolph Posted May 9, 2022 (edited) I wonder what was the reason for Duke to go around killing American soldiers. The Duke Nukem Forever 2013 mod had them mind-controlled by recolored Protozoid Slimers, but in the leaked clip, they look and speak like normal human beings. I also wonder if it is there just because Half-Life featured hostile US Marines as enemies. Edited May 9, 2022 by Rudolph 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
DannyMan Posted May 9, 2022 I never knew a huge leak would come by. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Rudolph Posted May 9, 2022 Not going to lie, the leaked clips and pics remind me a lot of Blood II: The Chosen. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Redneckerz Posted May 9, 2022 @Dexiaz And then there is Duke Nukem 3D: Reloaded: 3 Quote Share this post Link to post

I was thinking it felt oddly familiar but could not quite place it. It has that same "slightly janky early full 3D and we do not quite know how to do it right" vibe. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Doomkid Posted May 10, 2022 Maybe I'm just blinded by my nostalgia for that era of games in general, but these small handful of clips look 10x more fun and 10x less... bizarre and cringey (for lack of a better word) than what DNF turned out to be. Would be awesome for a talented modding team to use all these assets and tools to "fill in the blanks" and make a kinda-sorta-mostly playable and complete experience. I'd play it for sure, been wondering what it would have been like for so long after all. 6 Quote Share this post Link to post

Death_Ripper666 Posted May 10, 2022 After reading about the details of Duke Nukem Forever (2001), I thought i would never see the light of the day with all the years of development hell, but because of the leaks from 4chan, looks like it has been finally surfaced after 20+ years of never being in the public eyes. Looks like 2022 isn't that bad! 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Dexiaz Posted May 10, 2022 (edited) You know, the whole situation for me is very similar as Resident Evil 1.5 leak (first alpha version of RE2 with different storyline and characters). There was also announcement that someone does have this build and will release it, and after some time it actually happened. After that people who are modding Resident Evil 1/2/3 also reworked this leaked build and made a huge bugfix patch + filled the gaps so the game became kind of finished. I'm pretty sure this is going to happen again with DNF (if they really release it in June). P.S.: it's cool to see that editor is also will be included. Time to learn/remember how to mod UE1 :> Edited May 10, 2022 by Dexiaz 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Gibbon Posted May 10, 2022 If the leak contains not just source code for the game but also for its build of the Unreal Engine, that could go a long way to also recreating Unreal. Of course since it’s a licensed engine (stalker’s xray was not) it can also mean a fan completion would legally be very challenging as Epic could simply sue for illegal use of a paid for engine. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Mr. Freeze Posted May 10, 2022 Couldn't you just reverse engineer the code line by line and technically have your own product? 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Gibbon Posted May 10, 2022 Only if it is a clean room reverse engineer. Once you’ve seen the code, you’re no longer considered able to do that. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
