To my knowledge the original plot had them possessed by "The Thing" like aliens (visible in the clips shown earlier, most notably on a headshot or when fighting a dog, long red tentacles come out, about 0:50 in the strip club clip).

Yep, it leaked today. Apparently the June release date was a joke. From what I was able to find the other day, apparently this wasn't 4chan's first rodeo when it came to someone saying they were going to leak DNF 2001 so this was initially met with a lot of skepticism among users, but it's a special red letter day where OP actually delivered.

 

I'm curious as where things will go to from here regarding what was actually leaked and what, if anything, will transpire from it.

That is why I have to wonder if Duke Nukem Forever would have really been a success had it been released when it was originally supposed to, since we know Blood II: The Chosen was not. I have no sympathy for George Broussard, but I can see why he would have felt insecure about that build.

It seems more presentable than both Blood 2 and Deus Ex, and one of those was a smashing success. I’d say it even looks better than Perfect Dark in many areas.

@BGrieber Sure, but Deus Ex was an entirely different type of game - i.e. a FPS/RPG where combat is actively discouraged (at least, early on) - and Perfect Dark was a Nintendo 64 game and thus could never look as good as a PC game.

Would be awesome for a talented modding team to use all these assets and tools to "fill in the blanks" and make a kinda-sorta-mostly playable and complete experience. I'd play it for sure, been wondering what it would have been like for so long after all.

Id rather just get new expansion packs like the Plutonium Pak with a proper new episode, weapon, enemy and boss enemy for DN3D every X years to celebrate anniversaries, instead of 20th Anniversary one which was half assed (it had some cool maps, but half assed nontheless, it didn't feel like a proper new episode like The Birth). New games just suck.

Im not sure if this is abandonware or ilegal, im not bothering because of a possible virus anyway. That would be the real concern, I doubt Randy will go overseas to bonk people for downloading some game that will never make them any money, the ones that should really be worried are the people that leaked it but I guess they know what they are doing. Anyway I will just watch a gameplay video, id rather play DN3D user maps than new games.

One of my friends found the 2001 build. I didn't ask how he got it, but I got the file on my PC rn. I'll start posting videos since it seems no one else is posting their own vids other than reposting. I'm a paranoid guy so if I never come back on, just know the duke did me in.

That’s more to my point, two well received games that not only don’t look the greatest but were well received and DNF2001 looks better than both.

 

I could see them being worried about the inevitable Unreal and Half Life comparisons, but I can’t for the life of me see them worried about being compared to Blood 2. As well, all three of those shooters came out the same year, and with HL1 only a month after Blood’s sequel.

And one that was not well received at all, so a game being "presentable" does not mean much here.

 

Also, I did not bring up Blood II: The Chosen simply for its graphics (which still look alright, as far as I am concerned), I merely said the leaked pics and clips reminded me of that game, so I do not really see what you are even trying to say here.

 

But if we are going to judge DNF2001 for its graphics alone, I have to say, I am really not a fan of the generic-looking HUD.
