Nevander Posted May 23, 2022 I made a patch that puts the 2001 trailer music instead of the Megadeth version. But I'm not happy with it yet. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

True, although easily worked around. Any solid attempt could be released as a patch. Meaning, incomplete on its own and must be pasted over the October build similar to the mega patch. That way, you're only releasing patched assets instead of another version of the full leak. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Rudolph Posted May 30, 2022 @Murdoch Eh. Does not look bad for 2001. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
BGreener Posted May 30, 2022 I will agree that it looks great, while also being quite unsettled with how close it’s straddling the “uncanny valley” line. This is especially so when they look around. Quite impressive. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Rudolph Posted May 30, 2022 (edited) Photorealistic graphics tend to age the worst, unfortunately. Maybe it is different now that the use of performance capture has become normalized and fairly accessible, but if you look back at the late 90s/early 2000s, what used to be considered cutting-edge looks really dated. Of all the bunch, I would argue that Half-Life 2 has aged the best - or the least badly. Incidentally, RAGE - Id's next big title after Doom 3 - looks nowhere near as impressive or revolutionary for its time, despite all the care that went into its production, whereas Borderlands has aged much more gracefully thanks to its stylized visual approach; playing Borderlands 3 right now, I do not feel like there were too much of a leap between it and Borderlands 2 graphically. I guess that is something to consider if there is to be another Duke Nukem game in the near future. Edited May 30, 2022 by Rudolph 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

ReaperAA Posted June 11, 2022 (edited) Not entirely new news for someone who has been closely following DNF2001, but for those who aren't, the DNF2001 restoration project has a moddb page and a twitter page now where can more closely follow the progress. https://www.moddb.com/mods/dnf2001-restoration-project https://twitter.com/DNF2001RP Apart from that, if you want to get in touch with the restoration project's members, then you can join the DNF2001 discord server where some of them are active. Rudolph Posted June 11, 2022 Here is to hoping they do not get in legal trouble! I get the feeling that some executives must not be too pleased with the leak... 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

Fuck the executives. Who cares about them. They withheld this from us too long, they deserved for it to get leaked and it's not like they can control it now. It's likely already on thousands of PCs. 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
Somniac Posted June 12, 2022 Its really surreal seeing this finally appear. DNF 2011 basically killed my fondness for Duke Nukem. Seeing this brings it back from the dead slightly. It'd be great to see some enterprising people finish the game, in the meantime this is a frustrating glimpse into what should have been. It would have been a hit in 2001 for sure. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

Sure, but I mean, they could always DMCA the project like Nintendo did with so many fan projects. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

There's also that game Reich which I thought looked really good from what was shown. There's also Captain Blood which was said to be actually completely done, it just couldn't get a publisher to release it. The Avengers one is the top game I wish never got cancelled. It sounded really cool and unique. I was thinking of how it could translate as a standalone GZDoom game pretty well. Strange, the Link to Captain Blood is dead. But i can find the same link still under some search Engines 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Rudolph Posted July 2, 2022 (edited) The Duke Nukem Forever 2001 Restoration Project managed to track down the composer of the 1998 Grabbag cover and obtain the full track! Edited July 2, 2022 by Rudolph 3 Quote Share this post Link to post

It's weak sauce compared to your version. I'm not a huge Duke fan, but that song is iconic, and it absolutely rocks. The Grote version sounds like pushing rope. And let me just say how awesome it is that you spend time on Doomworld. You made and still keep making some kickass music, and it's really cool to have you around. I guess that makes it the fitting theme song for a game that could never possibly have lived up to the expectations set by Duke Nukem 3D. ;) Regardless, since the goal is to finish the 2001 build, it is good news that the Restoration Project team was able to obtain the complete track. I don't. Yeah, it is kind of lifeless. The original is Duke sharp, focused and ready for action. This version is Duke waking up after he passed out drunk behind a strip joint, not quite sure where he is. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post

I don't have links to them right now, though. Maybe later. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
