What TV series did you watch recently

Trek seems to always have the disappointing finales. Except TNG. I remember reading about how Scott Bakula was angered with how ENT ended. Then again, he could just be angry they ended it after 3 or 4 seasons instead of 7. I think people just want the TNG version of Star Trek.

I made it through Murder Mountain. They made a good case for why pot is bad. Lots of people die or go missing when in any trade that's illegal. Why do I have to pay you when I can just kill you? Do a bad job? Try to rat me out? There's a shallow grave with your name on it. It's utter fear mongering that was allowed to happen until the federal government stepped up to fight it because they couldn't on a local level. For every hippy farm raising kids and pot, there were farms run or muscled by bikers or the mafia.

Then making it legal hoping to prevent murders and disappearances caused the price of pot to drop as well as legal costs of farming to go up. From a farming perspective, there's no standardization to keep the price of pot what it is. With milk, there is milk dumping to keep the price what it is. Less money means the muscle bows out and move onto something more profitable. Plus it standardizes wages, employment, the use of chemicals and so on. Chances are prices won't decrease for the customer purchasing it through legal methods like shops as there's more overhead with a store that has a physical location vs some dude in his ice cream truck.

Also the gun toting posse while right, they live by the gun, they die by the gun. Seems like a good way the old guard was ushered out.

It's a mecha anime made in Texas with David Tennant playing an english doctor, and Maisie Williams playing a sweary, scottish hacktivist.

Season 3 of Sailor Moon Crystal is easily the best season so far, but Chibiusa brings the whole thing down a bit. Ironic how she yelled at Usagi for acting like a child, even though Chibiusa is 900 years old and acts like she's 5. Her Electra complex is downright creepy. This is easily one of the most purely unlikable fictional characters I've ever seen.

Eh, enough negativity. I really liked the first two seasons, but I can understand the reasons as to why fans were lukewarm towards them. The writing, pacing, comedy, editing, action, direction, animation, depth, pretty much everything has noticeably improved in season 3. Sailor Moon fans who wrote off Sailor Moon Crystal without having watched the Death Busters story arc have no idea what they're missing. This is pretty damn incredible.

edit: More episodes in, and Chibiusa isn't anywhere as annoying as she was in the previous season. She's still irritating at times, but for the most part, she's been tolerable.

I just finished The Assassination of Gianni Versace. It was really interesting, I didn’t know about his killer’s serial killing past, I didn’t really know much about it at all. Also I wish I had a mansion like Versace’s haha, I love that whole style.

I just found out Supernatural is ending next season which is sad though, I thought it would just keep going. But that means it ended up being 3x as long as previously expected and it’s been on a real upswing recently in terms of quality so maybe it’s for the best.

I have finished bakemonogatari. I think it fucked with my brain a little but I liked that. I can definitely see now why people are comparing the recent Bunny Girl Senpai to it, and while I love that show, it's definitely interesting to see what having a famous illustrator at the helm of your show can do. I'm sad I missed the VOFAN live draw at a convention last year.

so I guess everyone's telling me to go to kizumonogatari next, and then I think nise follows. I have no idea if the watch order for monogatari is weird as fate, but it's up there.

There was a reading order on Reddit, but can't find that one. The Monogatari series is amazing indeed, finished it a while ago.

DIMENSION 404 is god awful. Wow it feels budget, cheesy, and there's just something so off about everything. It feels like a lot of the sets are blue screen and just digitally added, like everything is so weirdly lit. It's so weird that there's nothing like it that feels so cheap. I figured it would be Hulu's answer to Black Mirror or a modern Twilight Zone, but it falls far so short. It feels like the actors are self aware that this is a bad production so it feels lighthearted, silly, stupid and difficult to watch. Like watching a Youtube video.

Each episode was an utter chore to watch and even at 40+ minutes they felt far too long. I think that's one of the strengths to the Twilight Zone, they can tell quick stories that don't lose their effectiveness.

I've been watching 1970s Dr. Who with Jon Pertwee. I like the newer episodes of Dr. Who, but I find the show so much more charming when the budget is the cost of a McDonald's Happy Meal. I noticed one scene where the exterior of the TARDIS was literally falling right off of its hinges. This show is amazing.

Finished up Star Trek: Voyager and now i'm watching Enterprise (or Star Trek: Enterprise as it was renamed) which so far isn't as bad as i thought it would be. It's just weird going back to a time period that takes place before the original series, which i think the newer series Discovery does as well. Also, Captain Archer is sort of a badass, which i like :)

The ending to Voyager wasn't all that bad tbh, but i still think that TNG had the best finale (of what i've seen so far). I will miss the characters in Voyager though as it seems that with every series i get attached to some of them.

May contain spoilers for those who haven't watched ST: Voyager

Spoiler

Why the hell wasn't Harry Kim promoted? Jeeze...He even mentioned it in a few episodes towards the end. Something about him having to supposedly stay in that role (Ensign) due to being out in the Delta Quadrant...Like there weren't enough other ensigns or something, come on. I call BS on that.

Anyway's about the ending: I would of liked to have seen what happened when they made it home. Maybe at least 1 episode at least. I mean, they technically showed the crew on Earth years later but that was in a different time line so to speak, so at least we got to see them at home, well sort of. It wasn't the worst finale in Star Trek history, but it wasn't the best either imo.

The soldiers of the United Nations International Taskforce under the command of Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart appear to be completely useless. They lack even the most rudimentary knowledge about combat. In one scene the Brigadier walks into a room where he heard gunshots coming from (right after having shot a man to death and witnessing numerous other deaths around him) and his pistol was completely lowered as he clumsily walked into a room where he should have realistically expected someone to be waiting in ambush. I've seen a total of two shootout scenes that both take place in warehouses, and I can't help but think how fucked UNIT would be if they had to go up against Clarence Bodicker and his goons.

Harry Kim stayed Ensign because quite bluntly... someone had to stay ensign: https://scifi.stackexchange.com/questions/98844/why-wasnt-harry-kim-promoted-beyond-ensign-when-others-like-tom-paris-were-mul

I remember with the Shield, their rookie grew up, so they literally gave him a rookie.

I thoroughly enjoyed Enterprise once they got into the Expanse. Once they got out and started having 3 part episodes, I didn't like it nearly as much, which brings me to Discovery. Wow you better like their one or two story per season storylines, because you won't get anything else. I really miss the stand alone episodes when it was just a random roll of the dice. There's just so many lifeless, professional characters. Voyager thought 9 was too many characters to write for?

Hearing about the idiocy behind the show's production is always fun. The show runners wanted to set it as a prequel, so the original show would become relevant. Well the network basically wants Star Trek... not whatever this is. Oh but we got it... TIME TRAVEL! Well time travel isn't working, what else ya got? You know September 11th? But in SPACE in one long storyline. This isn't working, could we please turn it into SNL where you come back from a commercial and there's a boy band singing? What a terrible idea said the show runners, to which they said MAKE IT STAR TREK! OK, we'll make it Star Trek by having Archer form the United Federation of Planets... yeah too late, you're canceled. Well good... cuz we're gonna reboot anyway and don't want this to confuse our new movie reboot! Eh fuck it let's bring in Riker and Troi.

The main character is pretty much Wesley Crusher. An overzealous officer that seems to be the number one pick for everything despite her job position. It's weird that the main character isn't the commander. Beyond her, there's just so many background characters and its getting worse. Main contributors to the first season are just shuffled into the background so new ones can take the lead. Maybe it's because the first few episodes felt like such dislikable people that in season 2 they thought eh let's just get more lead characters and write them to be more likable oh and one of them is Spock and the other is Pike.. The extended bridge crew is lucky to get a line in even if they're always there. Different departments are getting more and more one line characters.

The need to keep people invested with one long storyline feels like it missed the mark and how they feel the need to keep people invested like Deep Space 9 brings me to my next point:

TWILIGHT ZONE'S THIRD REBOOT

Its enjoyable, even if its in only its third out of ten episodes, but one of the original's biggest strengths was its 20 minute time limit. These episodes run wild times from almost 40 minutes to 55 minutes. If there's a bad episode, you merely need to wait another week and they'll have a new one, with a new plot and new characters. This week's episode was interesting as it throws in what appears to be either good ole racism from a not couple that manages to randomly break the law. Noise laws, moving violations, parking violations, exiting the sewers.

They already did their parody of Nightmare at 20,000 feet. It was such a big departure from the original episode that it was a disappointment and I was really looking forward to it. Before that was the Comedian that a lot of people seem to hate, because it puts comedy into their drama. Not just that but both political and terrible comedy, so take your pick about which one you hate and focus on that.

I close with this... Discovery isn't worth my $10 a month, so I canceled CBS and they gave me 2 months free. As much as I've grown to hate Discovery's second season storyline and not be that into watching every week, it has a good episode out of every six.

@geo Wow, i didn't even know there was a new Twilight Zone reboot. I've been watching the original via Netflix (although the 4 season isn't on there, presumably due to it being the "hour" long episodes?) but i've seen all of them before, mainly on the SciFi channel as a kid via the marathons they used to have. I even have a few of the old CBS VHS tapes still.

I like the 80's reboot to a certain extent but i haven't gotten around to watching the early 2000's one yet. I doubt i'll watch the new one from the sound of it.

Also i didn't realize how much controversy Enterprise had behind the scenes...that's messed up. I like Season 3 so far (that's what i'm currently on) but i do miss some of the standalone style episodes that the first two seasons had, kinda like how the earlier X-Files seasons were at first.

And yeah...i'm not really looking forward to watching Discovery. It's had a troubled history already and it's only had what? Two seasons? I'll probably just find the first few episodes online (stream them from somewhere if i can) just to see if i actually like it before i decide to pay for it.

Hell, i still have to watch the "reboot" Star Trek movies. I'm kind of looking forward to watching them but then again, not so much.

Also about the Harry Kim thing, interesting answer's in that topic you posted such as: "Because nothing good gets to happen to Harry Kim. He's essentially the O'Brien of Voyager".

I pretty much sort of knew the answer. I still think it's bullshit though haha!

Star Trek Enterprise, say what you will about it, it should've had another season if for no other reason than the disappointing final episode.

Turns out UPN Treks have had controversy because it's main stream prime time and you need to compete or you get canned. Which is where I think Discover has grown complacent. People like to say Netflix and streaming services let the small shows thrive even if they bring 100% awesomeness to 5+% percent of the people, but I think that safety is bringing Discovery down.

So back to Voyager, and its combination of show runners and network pressure like Janeway needs to be romanced! And the actress stood up to them and said nope, she's married to the ship. The show wanted to fire Harry Kim while the network wanted more Harry Kim as he was on a list of hot guys on TV. It was supposed to be Harry getting thrown off the show when Seven was added to the cast, but the network kept him. Harry is also gone for 2 episodes in the second season as punishment for something.

Either the network or the show wanted more sex, so Seven of Nine was brought in after the actress said no 4 times. She didn't want to be space barbie, which she wasn't, but she was at the same time. Janeway's actress hated the thought of smutting up her show, when I felt Six of Nine lifted that show with her debut season. Supposedly Jeri Ryan would be so afraid and intimidated of Janeway's actress Jeri get sick, but that could have been from wearing a space girdle.

The whole sex thing or someone running things wanting to make the cast more beautiful became the bane of the entire cast as Janeway, Seven and the Doctor became the show's tent poles and the other actors else felt forgotten. Chakote was hoping to get killed or kicked off the show, so he pretty much did whatever he wanted and many things he said were improvised and not in the script. Either he'd get kicked off or he'd have fun and they let him have fun.

Speaking of UPN wanting to smut up TV, that's why Enterprise has a lot more toplessness. Men included. Tu-Pal gets to go bare too and the actress was pretty against it too. Basically sex has no place in their space opera. Romance being different than blunt sex. That could just be a changing of the times. Sexiness is more common on TV.

I think Discovery is up to 5 show runners for whatever reason. They quit or get bounced out. Chances are someone is saying it needs to be more like Trek! and CBS is saying yeah but we need it to lead into TOS so people actually watch it and get caught in the loop of watching all 6+ shows! Heck I'm more ready than ever to watch TOS after seeing Discovery. Discovery doesn't really make me want to keep tuning in so much as makes me want to see what all the foreshadowing is about since the foreshadowing's real payoff seems to be in the 50 year old original series. It's better sci-fi than it is Star Trek.

The Orville is Trek. Man I love that show despite its comedy. They're starting to get sparse with the episodes for whatever reason. Maybe it takes them longer to shoot or they want to stagger them out or maybe in Fox's eyes it's a failing show and it won't be much longer before it ends up on the Futurama schedule which means Fox will air it whenever they feel like and even cut a single season in half to make two seasons.

I haven't seen Discovery, it's not on hulu (I don't use cable) Voyager was great and I'm glad they didn't sex up Cpt Janeway, that was something I noticed about Enterprise, I watched it when it was on the SciFi (before it became SyFy or whatever) channel as a a kid since it came on right after Stargate SG1, re-watching the series now, it's definitely got more "inappropriate" moments than any other trek, I agree, romance is fine, bordering porn not so much.

I'd definitely say Kizu is the best way to continue from there, yeah, followed by the remaining TV series in release order, with Koyomimonogatari in between the two seasons of Owari.

I did go with Kizu next, and have started on Nise. I'll keep your advice in mind with the remaining TV series and Koyomimongatari. Don't fully know how it fits in, but one fan advised watching Nekomonogatari after finishing Nise.

With all the Trek talk, and Discovery hyping up TOS, I started watching Stark Trek: the original series for the first time since I was 8 and hated it. I've seen a few episodes since then. I'm 3 episodes in and it's quite a bizarre show, such as the cast. Scott doesn't visibly appear until episode 3, his voice is in the first episode and gone in the second. Chekov has yet to be in the show, Sulu seems to be a botanist in the first episode and some nameless character in episode 3 without lines. McCoy was a huge part of the first episode, only to be utterly replaced by someone in episode 3. Ohura and blonde woman with a big roll that was in the first two episodes is gone in the third. Maybe this is just how shows were back in the 60s or they only paid the cast to be in 75% of the episodes. Even looking on IMDB, Kirk & Sock 80 episodes. Ohura 70, Sulu 54, Chekov 36, Nurse Chapel and Lt. Leslie, both of whom I've never heard of before have 36 and 60 episodes.

The only true staples are the only two that the credits cover, Sock and Kirk. Sock seems to have a lot of time on entertainment, playing his lute or playing chess. Not even the uniforms are consistent as no one seems to wear the same uniform twice. Kirk has a green one, a mock turtle neck and a typical shirt. Spock goes from a blue to a yellow shirt like Kirk. That could just be growing pains of a new show.

I thought it would be too archaic to watch, but it has such a budget 60s charm. I can see the seams in the set don't match up like there are gaps between the walls and the ceilings. Some of the steel girders holding up hallways are literally wood panels spray painted silver. The skies are painted walls, the rocks and heavy stuff look super light and I think that adds to the fun of the show. TOS manages to still be entertaining story wise, even if within 3 episodes I have seen two stories about all powerful beings like the Q. One is a teen with god powers and the other is granted god powers through ESP.

@geo From what i remember Chekov doesn't show up until season 2 (i could be wrong though, hope that's not a spoiler if i'm right) and yeah, the first pilot episode (if you watched that one) is completely different then the rest of the series since Kirk isn't in it. That blonde chick your talking about might be nurse Chapel. She was Roddenberry's wife and also played in TNG as Lwaxana Troi, Deanna Troi's mother (i had to look up how to spell that xD) and she was also the voice of the ship's computer in TNG (i think DS9/Voyager as well).

Now i don't really remember much about each separate episode as it's been a bit since i watched them but i do remember some of the stuff that you mentioned. I know that certain elements differ from episode to episode such as clothing/people and what not, just like you said...Sort of like they were still creating it as they were going along, in which they kinda were in a way. I think it gets more consistent later on but i don't exactly remember...

The same as any TV show. Women love it.

Kobra Kai season 2 was still fucking awesome. Not as awesome as the first season, but that was a very high season. Happily these seasons are literally like 4 hours long, so that helps a lot. It's also so amazing that this show is literally just all mistaken perception. X ends up with Y's wallet. X must have stole it. No X found it. Well who's the villain then. Drama happens.
