Hidden away on an alien moon, a colossal demonic machine threatens to steal the power of your home planet's star. Firefly is a set of 7 (+1 end map) MBF21-compatible (-cl21) maps centered around difficult, chaotic slaughter combat. They're orange. IMPORTANT STUFF iwad: Doom II Format: MBF21 (-Cl 21) Takes up maps 01-08 though 08 is an ending map. 1000Hp Siege Cow (Yellow wiring) replaces the Spiderdemon No Coop or DM support Jumping and crouching have been disabled, freelook is ok but can break some insta-pop pits and other stuff Difficulties implemented - The set has been balanced and tested around UV being the "intended" difficulty, but later maps can get quite abusive. If you're having serious trouble, please drop the difficulty down a notch. I've tried to make the lower difficulties still fun without being so stressful of an experience for those less acquainted to slaughter. Maps 01-06 can be maxed in under a half hour, Map07 can take over an hour to beat Tested in dsda-doom 0.27.0+ and GZDoom 4.10.0 Download: RC2 Hi again :] You might have seen one of the many screenshots I've been posting in doomworld and various discords, and I'm happy to finally release this wad. I wanted to experiment with more combat setups and other stuff I like (Chaotic setups, BFG-heavy combat, pushing through hordes of monsters) and so this wad's progression is very lock-in/setpiece heavy for most of the maps. The maps start off with vaguely micro-slaughter/combat puzzle stuff with a couple dips into larger monster brawls, while map07 goes fully off the deep end into macroslaughter goodness. I also tried to give these maps a sense of continuity, with most maps ending with a hint to the next map. All maps are meant to be played from pistol start but only map06 enforces this. There's probably a bunch of stuff that I missed while making the set. If you have any bugs or feedback, put it in the thread! Crate Expectations - NOW on IDGAMES! Full megawad of wacky surprising challenges!
LegendaryEevee and 60 others reacted to Clippy for a topic
Get it here from IDGAMES! --> https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom2/Ports/megawads/crate_escape Quick details: -Doom 2 Limit Removing Doom 2 Format maps -Best for GZ or DSDA or a sturdy port, will work in crispy but see * -Pistol Start or Continuous are both options. Continuous is much easier and pistol starts are far more challenging. But properly designed for both. -Please play maps in order as they introduce aspects you will need to know about later. -Don't be afraid of monster counts, most maps are fast and furious and quicker than they appear. High action! No drip feeds -Each map is a unique experience and I'm trying to add as much variety as I could - sometimes you have to use your noggin a bit -No jumping or crouching. Freelook is optional - they have been tested both ways -All difficulty settings are here. UV can be quite mean blind, don't be afraid to try HMP at first. -Coop is an option as well. Also attempted to accommodate deathmatch but yeah probably weird lol *Intercept Overflow/ghost bug could happen on rare occasions, I tried my best to weed these out. Just turn off intercept overflow option if you have it. In crispy the later maps also have Spechits overflow but this is nothing to worry about, will only mess up crispy demos **GZDOOM users & Mods - be careful - from what I seen most mods, especially excessively bloody ones can cause lag. My maps have a lot of behind the scenes hijinx and voodoo dolls and stacked crushers and excessive barrels etc. I really meant to emulate the classic experience here so I can't attempt to accommodate mods - but if you try it let me know how it goes lol DYNAMIC LIGHTS - look cool but unless you have a really good computer, excessive barrels and what not will def cause lag - just turn that off if it happens Screenshots: Well guys I did it - For some reason, and while going through a rough patch in my life I somehow got all these mapping ideas and maybe as a distraction, started a megawad. I wanted to get this done before my 40th birthday so I'm 9 months ahead of schedule. It's finally done! What a relief haha - I hope it was worth it. A full on megawad: I had a lot of fun making this but it also was a bit of a trial. I never worked on anything this long, a whole YEAR. It's maddening. But I consider this my magnum opus. I put more care and effort and energy into this than any other project and put my heart and soul into it. I tried my best to make each map an enjoyable and unique experience. The only connecting theme is crates, the rest is chaos. You could cut up the three episodes like this: Ep 1 - Cosmic Chaos - mostly short bite sized maps that are wild and frantic and take place in SPACE Ep 2 - Blue Skies and Dead Doomguys - this one takes you to heaven and hell and all over - get ready for an existential crisis Ep 3 - Time for Red - These maps as described by Largecat "Watch out; Clippy's respect for human life starts decreasing in the third episode" 4 demos are also included as well. The crates: You'll learn about them if you play through in order - if you play out of order you will be confused. Each colour crate has a different interactive function. Not sure how I came up with that but it kind of reminds me of silly mobile games, you keep getting more crates with different powers appear throughout. It's the only connecting theme in a wave of chaos The following are the dates of completion - not counting adjustments etc CREDITS: I could not have got here without the help from these good friends and good people: Crate Expectations formerly Crate Escape and originally Crate Scott Big thanks to playtesters: @Large Cat, Doom Wads aka @dragzxnd, @sandwedge, @MAN_WITH_GUN, @LVENdead, @Chookum, @A Handsome Fridge, Jade aka @WhatTheDuckXD, @EduardoAndFriends, @Doomkid, @Snaxalotl & @Biodegradable - I never used to let many ppl pre-test my stuff but I am so glad I did, I would not have such a polished product otherwise. @thelamp for making intermission graphic and showed me some mapping tricks / dehacked stuff - H exit texture @EduardoAndFriends made coke and pepsi machine @Large Cat also helped me figure out stuff and did amazing playtesting and map insight and advice to help me fix a lot of things to be better and also proved these can all be beaten saveless lol - yes he fuckin did @Doomkid: stairway to Heaven midi & D Drummin midi and misc help and support - weed computer panel - help with sound effects for special monster / boss / dehacked stuff - correcting my typos in the credits - good times @A Handsome Fridge - red crates - gold crates - are u pooping? @Maribo - sky 1 fixes - forced comp 2 lump - among many other helpful contributions and insight - wonderful & supportive - thank you @plums Koolaid sky ep 1 @HAK3180: gold door from crossbarrer - I hope you don't mind I really liked that door. Frantik DM 3 - a NEW 32-Map Zandronum:UDMF Deathmatch MegaWAD
TheGreenZap and 31 others reacted to Arrowhead for a topic
***DOWNLOAD LINK*** [UPDATE 1]: https://www.mediafire.com/file/fbujc5obn2z3slt/FRANTIKDM3-RC1-FINAL-UPDATE-1.zip/file What is Frantik DM 3? Frantik DM 3 is a 32-map deathmatch pack that is primarily FFA focused. I aimed for 3-6 player FFA style gameplay, but duels work just fine in this pack also. The maps are slightly larger, and much more detailed on average than those found in the previous set, Frantik DM 2. DoomCute was also focused on heavily - as well as creating more realistic spaces. A lot of 'advanced' features are utilized in this pack, such as 3D floors, sector-linked 3D floors, slopes, jump-pads, ACS ladders, swimmable water and no-stop teleporters. This large 32 map DM pack is split into 7 themed episodes. I aimed for a very diverse selection of arenas, both gameplay-wise and aesthetics-wise - the locations include: A forge, a foundry, an igloo, a froze over lake w/ ice-fishing, a winterized re-make of Frantik DM 1's MAP27, a frozen basin, a jungle w/ tree canopy, a remote island, a swamp w/ a decaying boardwalk, a watering hole in the desert, a subterranean cave system, a giant generator, a bunker, a rundown UAC-owned factory, a hydroelectric dam, a large prison, acid-melted bases, a nukage waste refinery, a chemical production lab, a nuclear reactor, a cursed crypt, a graveyard, a besieged hellish castle, and a hell-corrupted gory base - as well as a futuristic techbase w/ an alien UFO. The episodes are as follows: This mapset is designed to be played w/ jump ON (imperative), freelook ON, crouch OFF, Item respawn ON, respawning barrels ON, and weapon stay ON. It can be played equally well in either OpenGL or Software rendering modes, depending on what you prefer. This mapset has been tested to work ONLY w/ Zandronum - it will NOT work in ZDaemon or Odamex. The format is Zandronum:UDMF, iwad is Doom 2. Pressing 'F1' will bring up a complete list of all 32 maps in the pack, color-coded by thematic episode, for easy viewing. Waiting at the TITLEPIC will show the CREDIT screen. Here is a cropped version of the credit screen to better fit this post: MAP LIST: I've also introduced a slightly modified Railgun in this set. See my attached readme for a full credits for that. ***EDIT*** FURTHER DEV INFO: (2024-03-09): As always, a huge thanks to all the playtesters, MIDI composers, and my great TITLEPIC artist, WorriedIdiot. A much more comprehensive credits section is in the attached readme! TITLEPIC by @Worriedidiot: Here are 32 resized screenshots from this map set: Here's the earlier mentioned F1 screen: ***DOWNLOAD LINK*** [UPDATE 1]: https://www.mediafire.com/file/fbujc5obn2z3slt/FRANTIKDM3-RC1-FINAL-UPDATE-1.zip/file Thanks so much to everyone who assisted in helping me get this made, as well as all of you who gave me feedback and encouragement along the way. International Doom 7.4 / Heretic 7.0 / Hexen 7.0 (updated March 8, 2024)
Maribo and 14 others reacted to Julia Nechaevskaya for a topic
Finally! I mean, good day, a massive update has arrived. Doom gets small yet important updates, but today's special guests are Heretic and Hexen. Both has been reviewed, rewritten, reassembled and released as well, and just like it was done to Doom, this is a next major versions, not compatible with previous 6.x. Barely it is possible to compose a changelogs about what has happened, but a few remarks should be made: True color render. Semi-optional, as translucency is always dynamically calculated. My subjective recommendation is still same: to get the most out of true color, enable smooth diminished lighting and disable fake contrast (in Heretic). 1x-6x rendering resolutions. FluidSynth support. Requires a soundfont file to be provided to the "fsynth_sf_path" config file variable. I highly recommend you to check out Trevor0402's SC-55 soundfont, it fits all the games just perfectly. Default settings are identical to vanilla except 2x rendering resolution. Despite the many possible improvements, this is the right thing to do. Multiplayer and demo compatible with Chocolate and Crispy source ports. Few improvements for demo playback is also here, such as demo reloading, going to next level and warping. But no "demo join", that one was a bit complicated. No "fixes" to the game mechanics. A few exceptions have been made for enabled physical features, which will never be active in the demo/multiplayer game to prevent possible desyncs. Both games have cheat code shortcuts to each other and to Doom. Typing "ID" will prevent player movement for two seconds and allow it again once the cheat code has been entered, in the same way as in CRL. Download: International Doom, version 7.4: Windows (32-bit): inter-doom-7.4-win32.zip Windows (64-bit): inter-doom-7.4-win64.zip International Heretic, version 7.0: Windows (32-bit): inter-heretic-7.0-win32.zip Windows (64-bit): inter-heretic-7.0-win64.zip International Hexen, version 7.0: Windows (32-bit): inter-hexen-7.0-win32.zip Windows (64-bit): inter-hexen-7.0-win64.zip Changelog for Doom: Kind thanks to @fabian, @rfomin, @mikeday, @ceski and @bradharding, without you, this project simply wouldn't exist! Special thanks to @rfomin for writing a resolution-independent «Demon buffer» in Heretic for scrolling Heresiarch screen (⬇️👹) and for always lending a helping hand, no matter how deep I dug into code problems. All in all, all three games took about three extensive months of dedication and code grinding, sometimes probably too maniacal, but that's how things get done. And I would like to say extra thanks to @plums, @Meerschweinmann and @NightFright for joining me on this journey and providing a colossal amount of valuable feedback, ideas, corrections and bits of code. What else? Happy International Women's Day, I guess. 🙂15 points -

so i found some old screenshots i took of McDoomworld
Noodle Dude and 10 others reacted to TheMagicMushroomMan for a topic
They should bring that theme back because modern Doomworld is the internet equivalent of McDonald's. The bathrooms have shit everywhere, the coffee is stale and cold, and I recieve eight warning points everytime I pull down my pants and scream at the employees. Chalk it up to the antisocial tendencies of psychotic moderators. The Hamburglar is okay, but Grimace is an overrated asshole (the milkshakes are actually made from his own shit) and Ronald should not be allowed around children. I ordered eleven Happy Meals last week for the exclusive Doom Mcternal toys, but two were missing toys completely, and I was asked to leave when I requested a refund or at least three extra toys. Among the eight remaining toys, half were defective. I got a chainsaw that won't vibrate or make noise, a Marty Stratton that blames me for the Marauder being a shitty enemy, and a Pain Elemental with one asshole. The fourth toy is the most disappointing since it was a Classic Edition Collector's Series NIKE Solesport X Lil' Wayne DOOM 3 collab feat. Kevin McCloud and I'm a huge DOOM 3 fan, but it was just a generic fleshlight that won't turn on and looks nothing like the one in the game. At least in real life I don't have to put it down when I want to use my weapon. Anyway, the whole place is boring. It says they have like 40,000 members, but there's only ever a couple hundred people actually making posts and maybe half a dozen cooks. Parking is okay, the URL is short and accessible. The sign featuring the famous Golden Archviles brings on a heavy feeling of nostalgia. On the other hand, I feel very unsafe there, even the chef admitted they've been hacked. They say it's not a big deal because the thieves only got away with their hashbrowns. If you're there for the food, the only thing they serve is eColi. They have the Mick's Picks deal going on for $8.99, so I figured I'd try one while I was checking my toys in front of the other customers and throwing out the food from my Happy Meals. I had the Big Fucking B*rger and it gave me a virus that wiped out my system. The only thing this place has going for it is the Ultra-Progressive Playground. Since I was already banned, I had to create an alt account to enter. I had a lot of fun talking to my girlfriend while we messed around on the barrels o' fun, but there was a troll on top of Mt. Erebus that kept trying to sell us dopefish. He called my girlfriend inflatable and I ended up reporting him. Either way, the playground is at least better than the one at Doomer Burgs. Just don't expect anything else (and be aware that the height limit is 50MB which is not fair - little Doomlings do exist!). The fries are okay but they weren't that fresh.11 points -

Man Q. Bus and 6 others reacted to DSC for a topic
So, I was googling out of curiosity the exact date of release of ORIG.WAD... And guess what? It was in this precise day, exactly 30 years ago! And since it is widely considered to be the first user made level ever... It means it is also pretty much the 30th anniversary of the modding community as well! I wish I had something of substance to say, but I'm on mobile and it kinda sucks to write even just this lol. I'm a nobody with poor communication skills anyways, I'll let the seniors of the community to be the ones to say something significant if they want. Wow, three decades already...7 points -
monster teleport traps trigged from an item
inkoalawetrust and 6 others reacted to plums for a topic
In UDMF you can give items a tag and action (edit the thing and select the Action/Tag/Misc tab), and they will trigger that action on sectors with that tag when they are picked up (items) or die (monsters). So as an example you can give an item an action of type 11 (Door Raise) and then when you pick it up it opens some doors that allow monsters to walk into teleport lines. HOWEVER BE VERY CAREFUL ABOUT DESIGNING MAPS LIKE THIS, because sometimes people will avoid picking up items if they don't need them, which you might not anticipate. Worst case scenario you put it on something like a green armour and the player is softlocked because they have too much armour to pick the item up; I have seen this exact thing happen in maps. On something that is obviously needed to progress, like a key, it should be fine.7 points -
Normally celebs and so on passing away doesn't affect me, but this one does hurt. He had a hand in so many things in my life, the obvious Dragonball, Dragon Quest, Chrono Trigger, etc. What really hurts though is that this came out of nowhere, and he wasn't exactly retired, he was working on so many things and wanted to do so much more. Having playtested several maps from this set, I can say they are a lot of fun and I hope people check it out. If you need a break from more traditional Doom, these lean into gimmicks/concept-based without any one thing outstaying its welcome, striking a good balance between gameplay you're used to and a constant offering of surprises. I've often seen it noted that modern Doom has a distinct lack of levity in it, and this WAD is going to be just what the doctor ordered if that's where your head is at these days.4 points -

I already suspected it yesterday because i thought that International Women's Day means something to you :) As you wrote on July 7, 2023 with the release of Inter-DOOM 7.0 that you would leave farther development of Inter-Heretic and Hexen, i was a bit disappointed that those two games from my youth-time will not get all those new features DOOM became. But as you explained me in mid December 2023 how to compile the latest Inter-DOOM before release, because of its new triple resolution, i was happily surprised that there was an Inter-Heretic executable that worked like a charm even in its wip state. And now those two missing games are back with all the features Inter-DOOM has. And you put so much effort and love to these games that they rarely deserve. You have built two more software rendered truecolor gems, that play and look like a loveletter to the Raven-games with all those details here and there. Today is a very good day for those who like and love the Raven games in a faithful enhanced way. But enough poetry now :) What should i say, thank you for this wonderful time we all had the last months. It was really nice to follow the development, discuss and playtest your work and we will read from each other. There is another ID-Tech1 game ;) And happy international Women's day.4 points -

Same here. I too am extremely slow in making even the simplest map. The fastest I ever made was the one for the Doomworld Maximum Project 2023. I completed it in 10 days and that was very simple map lol :D Also, I can't give enough time in mapping because everyday I go on work on the morning and come at night, and then I do not have that much energy to sit and think properly. Only if I can manage to come home earlier on the evening and the Friday. Btw, this year I hope to complete my Mystery 2 which I was working on a long time. The layout is almost complete, now time to setup things and perhaps difficulty I think. @Arrowhead Man, you are too good in making UDMF maps, wow! I only map in (classic) Doom format so there's probably a better way to do this in UDMF with all its extra features but I still wanna give my input: The classic method is to surround the item with linedefs that will allow monsters outside the map to access a linedef that teleports them to the playable area. For instance, when I walk over to pick up this red keycard, I will also cause doors inside monster closets to open and allow the pinkies to teleport in:3 points -
