My recommendation as a doctor*: Every time you encounter someone with this opinion, add another archvile to the map you're currently working on. *not actually a doctor28 points -

Well, I'm sorry to hear that; this is meant to be a light and fun mod, and not to offend anyone. These monsters were based on characters from other games, like the Cannibals from Monkey Island 1 and The Fetishes and Shaman Fetishes from Diablo 2. The Gatling gun is included simply because it is an effective weapon against low-tier monsters, as is the shotgun. That said, I think I would made their skin color green or dark gray if I made it nowadays. But they were made for PD1 ten years ago, and changing their skin color would require remaking them from scratch, which is a lot of work. The Arch-Vile is the monster with the most frames, and just adding the skull helmet for PD2 took a huge amount of time. I tried remapping their colors in Slade, but it looked really bad. If there is someone more skilled than me interested in changing their colors, I wouldn't mind changing them. But I don't think anything in this mod should be taken too seriously, and they're not even human.6 points -

MAP26 - “Everyone Loves the Beach” It's the framing that makes this one. The fight that constitutes the core gameplay of the map is a fine morsel, if not a patch on Benjo's more gameplay-oriented works. However, the title and the lo-fi visual direction gives it a level of thematic levity and suggestion that makes the experience feel more "substantial" than it really is, working like a dose of forthy, cheery surrealism in a mapset conatining many. Feels like something you'd see in an Abyssal Speedmapping Session set or the like, where this sort of conceptual jokeyness intertwined with simple scale is found often, but its macabrely cheerful spirit is very much compatible with the mutated wonderland of Down the Drain.6 points -

DeetOpianSky and 4 others reacted to SeaTree for a topic
Terror Signal is a set of 17 maps(14 normal, 2 secret, 1 epilogue) designed for MBF21. It features new enemies along with some modified weapon and enemy behavior. TERRORSIGNAL 1.0.6.zip -Changed Weapons- -Pistol- Higher damage, perfect accuracy, and faster fire rate, but must be reloaded after every 10 shots. -Plasma Gun- While firing, the heat gauge on the weapon will fill up. When it is full, projectiles will deal more damage along with splash damage. -Chainsaw- Between each attack, a second 1-damage attack will happen to increase the chances of causing an enemy's pain state. -Changed Enemies- -Baron of Hell- He will now throw two fireballs for each attack. -Arachnotron- Slightly smaller colission radius in order to fit into tighter spaces. -Spider Mastermind- Slightly smaller colission radius along with enemies no longer retaliating against its attacks. -New Enemies- Screenshots: CHANGELOG:5 points -

MAP18 - "Reservoir of Muck" by PRO-RC This one is a very different beast compared to the last level. To be honest slavering the entire map in essentially one texture is not really a winner, but it looks okay on the most part. The combat is pretty open ended and actually quite easy, it is worth noting that you can get two of the keys without firing the shot and only the red requires effort. I managed to find the rocket launcher and plasma gun and in all honesty that is all you require (I found the SSG very late and never needed it). The map is fun and a good decompression after the previous map. The secret exit requires essentially beating the map (Or at least obtaining all of the keys and finding the not very secret switch near the megasphere secret. MAP34 - "Bricked Up" by BluePineapple72 I really wanted to like this map, but unfortunately there are design elements that don't really work. Now for the most part the first two thirds of the map are fine, okay the gameplay is at times straight out of the Hell revealed or even Jens Nielsen brand (The cyber in one of the houses for instance), but it is serviceable and I was able to get monsters to infight here and there. The issues begin essentially when you enter the jail, first of all the cells tend to hinder monster movement to the point where the fight here is very simple, then comes the big splurge after grabbing the red key, well you can just camp here and the cybers will do most of the work, given the compatability in play here this should be avoidable (Or at the very least the cacos should be able to pose a reasonable threat because cheesing the big fight feels like a no brainer. Oddly the map starts very stingy on just about everything, yet after the half way point you are given a glut of just about everything, in the end the map feels uneven and the city design seems to hinder a rather combat-focused map to its detriment, that said I will rate this above the other secret maps so far, it offers something different and does offer a fair amount of bite whilst not being parody level unfair. However the map is flawed in its current state.4 points -

I agree, the colour in that sky is pretty nice. I tried softening the darker blues a little, I think it's a mild improvement: Then I made a vertically tiling version which I also think looks a little nicer even in situations where it's not tiling:4 points

Map Slot: Episode 3, MAP 15 Map Title: "Netherheaven" Author: stochastic MIDI: "Gate of the Ancients" by Brian Luzietti from Stonekeep Download: Download (all my Doomium II maps) Description: After fighting through countless miles of underground cave systems and mines, you find yourself deep in the marrow of the earth - to a realm never before visited by mankind. With your entrance tunnel caved in, you realize the only way out of this abyssal demon hive is through it. Will you ever return to the world above? Note: Par time = 14 minutes. Dunder Mifflin Union Aerospace Corporation, this is Pam. Man, working with the default textures is a pain. Also, trying to figure out the scale of things in the map is super tough. I've made some more changes, added the side exit, added a couple more desks and started work on the conference room, but there's a space in the corner of the bullpen that eventually ends up being made into a separate temporary office space starting in season 8.4 points -
+1 for kmx; he's someone that a lot of newer people likely don't know about because he mostly wrote instead of mapped, but he was once a very prolific figure in the community. not only did he write for several cacowards, but he also maintained a very extensive blog with reviews for over 800 wads, both well-known and obscure, all of which are highly detailed and even go so far as to include screenshots and reviews of individual maps if there's multiple in a wad. it's a great resource, both for people looking for something to play as well as the mappers looking for insights into their favorite wads. he also has a ton of old posts scattered around the forums that likely provide a lot of useful insights into level design and such4 points
