DoomNation Dead?

All we lost was one web site hosting place. The people and the content can move to other places (barring people who just give up, or don't make backups, but there's no excuse for either), and it's them who really count. Any chance of your extra time going to level editing Cyb? :-) ethh: DN was down long before ILOVEYOU hit. Besides, it ran Linux IIRC DustBunny: Yeah right. Any decent web host would have a second server already running in the new location before closing the old one (e.g. doomworld, slashdot, freshmeat all moving recently, virtually no downtime). The frag.com people must be broke or incompetent to be down so long.

Well my site was hosted at frag.com but I'm not too upset. (Since I rarely update it.) :) I'll probably just keep waiting until frag.com's death is official or it returns to life. Anyway, as for creating a doomplanet.com ... why do these sites always have to be "doom" followed by a place. eg. doomworld, doomnation, doomhq, doomshack etc. Still I can't complain with my the name of my site.

Cyb is good, he did a nice service to the community by webmaster'ing doomnation, and I don't think anyone deserves to flame him. Did he kill your family or something? The worst thing I could imagine Cyb would do is rape some of your goats.

First off, no I do not hate anyone. Although I sometimes wonder about prower... strange little boy there. Seriously, I think Cyb is a great guy with an extremely creative mind. Look at all his levels, Doom Damnit!, and his work at bringing Doomnation into a very solid state. IMHO the most stable that site had been in since the day it opened. Is the Doomnation Frag.com hosted site gone forever? I am definately saying yes. Why? There is no reason a place like frag.com should be down that long unless the owners were bailing. I mean, look at any other major player in the online gaming community... how many of them have EVER been down for more than a day? Even when they have had extremely large errors... such as when Telefragged fried a motherboard? And especially since Zyfly hasn't contacted Cyb, I mean, what I am figuring is, he doesn't want to own up to what is happening. What to do with Doomnation? Well, I think Cyb should take the site to other hosts. Anywhere but Gamespy mind you, those site grabbing backstabbers don't deserve a high-end Doom site like Doomnation. Sure there will prolly be a few turn downs, but if they find the right place, I myself will surely be a happy guy. I don't want Doomnation to die? Why... well I like going there. They have their own personal slant on everything. I mean, DW is so straightforward and clinical (which is why I like throwing in a dumbass reference or joke occassionally) that Doomnation is just so much fun to go to occassionally. Besides, we need to get Doomnation on a server where they will actually fix the CGI probs the site had... you know, the msg board, all the other misc. shit. I mean, seriously, that was all pathetic... I can't believe they just let all that break. Well, now that you guys have heard my pov, I just hope you all take this into consideration and we can all work together to formulate a way to do Doomnation it's due. And while I'm at it... anyone else notice that Doomsphere seems to be dead or something, the site has just been turning up a /dir listing for like the past week. Doom News has been getting really slow on updates (every other day if we are lucky). And DoomHQ, well, they are trying I have to give them that... but there have been some serious lapses in their updating. And I'll give them the same advice we were given so long ago. Make the update more than one sentence. -Cov

I do really hope that Doomnation comes back. Its the perfect compliment to Doomworld and it never ceased to give a good laugh. Now that it seems as if it will never be back, its kinda like the thing that I never appreciated very much until it was gone. I hope that either frag.com actually comes back sometime in the next couple weeks or doomnation is moved to a new server. Just as long as it DOES come back Ill be happy.

I do not necessarily "hate" CYB, I just hate REALLY much his style he has in those news postings...I mean, humour is good thing, but too much is too much! And since his jokes seems to appeal to elementary school kids, I really can't stand that everytime I go to Doom Nation (...or went), I see one of his stupid headlines. And what comes to Doomworld's humour, it's more sparsely used, more mature, and...yep, more fun.

cyb's humor is more subtle than it looks. it looks kiddy but it isn't really. i remember back when the poll was stalin vs. doom guy. i was lmao for a week and stuck the picture on my agenda for a full semester. some doomers take themselves too seriously. ethh

Man, you parallel team people are some real tightasses. Most of his jokes aren't as immature as you think. Respect the guy he works hard to make DoomNation a fun site to visit and get the daily news.

And about cyb, his creativity doesn't make him special(no offense), I see people like and hate him in different ways, he is not any better then anyone else. So what was the point of this topic again? AND BY THIS WE DON'T MEAN THAT WE HATE HIM OR HIS HUMOR (AT LEAST NOT ALWAYS), THE POINT SIMPLY IS THAT I AM FUCKING BORED OF SEEING HIS JOKES IN EVERY SINGLE HEADLINE HE DOES!!! There you go. I know humour and comedy are based on repetition, but as the saying goes, you'll start to dislike anything if you'll get too much of it. In the past there have been (although they are very rare) some jokes by Cyb I enjoyed, but the same jokes and the same style in EVERY headline just started to piss me off. Can't we just say our opinion about a guy or a thing here in the Doom community without causing a verbal war? These are only secondary things in the Doom Community, the levels and addons we all make should be the main reason we're all here.
