  1. If AAA games produced experiences for me that were worthy of the label, I'd love to keep throwing money at them. Last game that did that was DOOM (2016). And, I don't mean to derail this into a discussion of nu-Doom, but I think this makes an important broader point about the AAA space in general—what I perceived as DOOM 2016's almost total awesomeness was, as far as I can now tell, a complete accident that happened despite, not because of, any of the minds and energies at work. There's no other explanation for why, as far as I know, the same creative leads and corporate structure that brought it to fruition are the ones that turned around and shat out Eternal/TAG/what Dark Ages looks to be from the trailer. It's only very mild hyperbole to say that they will never intentionally make a game that I will enjoy, and if they manage to stumble drunkenly into it, they will view it as an error which must be remedied as soon as possible.
  2. It might help the discourse if people realized and/or acknowledged that this argument is not actually being seriously advanced, and if this is the impression anyone gets of people's problems with Doom Eternal then it's because they don't understand the arguments, hope this helps.
  3. It's both, or to put it precisely, it really gets noticeable when both are bad at once, which they were in Eternal. 2016 had a few of the segments where you get locked into a room while Hayden talks, but really that was fine with me because the overall lore felt fitting for a Doom game. Eternal might have had more of the canned segments, but to be honest I still could have tolerated them; what put me off was the new tone and quality of the lore.
  4. I like how this description does nothing at all to narrow down which side of the argument you're talking about.
  5. More facilities should place their vital safety equipment at the end of ominous-looking corridors.
  6. For whatever it's worth, I see all the pictures today. Hopefully it stays that way!
  7. All of a sudden no pictures seem to be loading for me in this thread, even back to the first page. Other threads on Doomworld are showing images just fine for me. Anyone else have this problem?
  8. This is true, but in the absence of other information it still makes far more sense to conclude that an expert is correct than that they're wrong (assuming, of course, that they are properly accredited, properly informed on the situation, and that the situation itself is within their field of expertise). Perhaps Kinsie's wording was too absolute there, but directionally they were clearly right.
  9. At least this one is just averse because it's a scary dental procedure, which is like... a halfway understandable feeling? Rather than being ideologically opposed to dental work because the capitalists are using fluoride to turn the frogs gay. So we're trending towards sanity. Maybe in another few weeks we'll get a thread where the OP is like, "I had a cavity so I went to my dentist and got it filled, just thought I'd let yall know"
  10. It's hard to be excited after Eternal, but I'm interested. I'm keeping an open mind and if Bethesda show us something that's unambiguously going to be a good Doom game, I could become excited.
  11. To the "make the player run past the baron and come back for it later" scenario: Just put the Baron someplace where it's obvious it can't roam, like guarding a raised platform (that the player will eventually need to or at least benefit from accessing). That lets the player know they can explore the rest of the map without needing to worry about having the baron at their back.
  12. Be the change you want to see in the world.
  13. We don't know how much time we have left! Play URE2020 tonight, because tomorrow morning you could get hit by a bus.
  14. Yeah, but that's not a theme in the sense we're talking about here! Or, to put it another way, if people need to be told "This is Doom; you can make various types of map including, for example, UAC bases and Hell maps" then they might already have other problems, lol. Until further notice I think it can be safely assumed that RAMP is a yearly thing.
