  1. As the title says, I don't know how it happened and there's a lot of textures so manually refiddling it all isn't really an option. Whats the best way to fix this? I saw in an old thread someone recommended basically creating a new wad, copying the maps and things across and recreating the Texture 1 file. I'm not sure exactly how to do that properly though, do I just copy all the textures across in slade (in between pp_start and end) then... add them to texture 1?
  2. Sad to hear this, she was a constant presence in the lives of not just the British but the various countries around the world for which she was still head of state. Whatever your thoughts on the monarchy I think we can agree that she had a strong sense of duty and acted with a dignity and stoicism that was reassuring and a positive example to us all throughout her long reign. It can't have been easy for her losing her life-long partner Phillip and I do think that's what set her on the decline. Despite that and the fact that she was 96 years old it's still a shock and will be saddening for many of us.
  3. Yeah I got confused as it asks for the last texture in the first column, although even after reversing it I'm now getting the same sort of error message except this time it's BFALL4 and BFALL1. Here's a screenshot of my ANIMATED lump in Slade:
  4. I'm getting this error message when I try to load my wad up in glboom: P_InitPicAnims: bad cycle from FWATER4 to FWATER1 Anyone know anything about this? I do have an animated lump which I copied from the OTEX file and modified.
  5. I just finished Pagodia and I have to say it was very good. Well presented maps with a good aesthetic - I hesitate to say unique but it's certainly a style that I haven't seen before with the Japanese theme and purple/green dominated colour palette. Also, perhaps more importantly the gameplay was the right amount of challenge without being too hard resulting in a very fun experience. Definitely gets my nomination.
  6. Avactor has a bunch of great aztec - themed adventure maps in where you get to explore around beautifully detailed environments avoiding traps and working your way through them slowly.
  7. Hellcore 2.0 had an interesting credits map which used various parts from unfinished levels and introduced a new enemy. It's also worth playing just for the midi track alone.
  8. Whilst we're on this topic - can anyone please explain to me how the music on map01 only starts after smoking the pipe in prboom+? I'm wondering if I can use something like this in a map I'm making where the music will change after the player passes a certain point.
  9. The plasma gun, much like the chainsaw is just too loud for me compared to the other sounds in the game. I'm a fan of anyone replacing it with something a bit softer - the Doom 3 one being a good example of this.
  10. So I recently had the thought that using the single barrelled shotgun would be a lot more convenient if I didn't have to cycle through the SSG to get there. It's the same sort of thinking that makes some people not pick up chainsaws when they have berserk packs. Now imagine a world where this was the case and the SSG is now gun 4 and every other gun gets bumped up by one so to get to the BFG you have to press 8 for example. Would the increased ease with which you could select which shotgun you wanted compensate for the increased inconvenience that switching to the other guns would acquire? It's already kind of hard reaching over to push number 7, how much worse to push 8 then?
  11. I always loved the track to Equinox map13. Sounds very ethereal and fit well into the final level I thought. Someone posted a link to B.P.R.D's old website recently and the notes he gave for the track was that it was made by some kid who had a terminal illness and created that to be played at his funeral. Sadly the identity of it's creator is lost and will likely always remain a mystery. Here's the website if anyone's interested: https://web.archive.org/web/20091021225317/http://geocities.com/doomology/wads.html
  12. I'd like to add Scythe Map29 which has a MIDI version of a symphony X song "Lady of the snow". For years I had no idea where the track came from but it always stuck in my memory as being very good.
  13. Whatever this colour is: Edit: It's brown
  14. Seems like @Bulldozer_attack needs to go on another Rocky style training montage and come back even stronger in a year or so with a sub 15 second run
  15. It's always cool seeing stuff like this. That little video was very impressive - I could tell it was Steve Downes talking but just assumed you'd ripped the audio from some Halo trailer or short, until I heard him say rip and tear haha
  16. This really was a labyrinth! I always kind of knew what I was supposed to be doing though and sometimes it was just a case of looking at the automap trying to figure out how to get to an area. Gameplay was fun, I was able to play fairly fast and loose without ever struggling too much. I liked the texture usage - this texture pack can really make relatively simple rooms look interesting and lively. Overall, would recommend this as a good way to spend an hour or so.
  17. Call off the investigation! I changed the compatibility to Doom2/v1.9 and lo and behold the issue went away. Sorry for being an idiot, now I'll get back to playing it.
  18. I really enjoyed the first 3 maps of this project. I've just arrived at map04 and right away I'm noticing some weird issue where I can clip through some of the walls, quite a lot of them in fact. I'm playing on prboom+ and I saw @boltface mentioning the same issue above although he's using Zandronum. Could I be playing on the wrong settings - complevel for example? I'm using whatever the default of prboom+ is.
  19. I'll offer another one from eviternity - Map 15's track Restless Restless by Stewboy. Honestly a really good chill track that I'll quite happily listen to outside of playing doom, I have a lot of respect for Stewboy as a musician but I think this is his best work.
  20. OK thanks for the reply I'll definitely look into that DoomTools program. When you talk about merging OTEX into my wad, do you mean copying over the whole thing, or only the textures I've actually used? If it's the latter then would it be better to wait until I've finished my project before doing it?
  21. So I'm using OTEX and I was having a problem where the OTEX textures weren't animated. So to solve this I copied the animated lump in slade from OTEX into my wad however this meant the vanilla textures stopped working. After adding them to the animated lump they now animate but run in reverse. I tried switching the ordering so that, for example SFALL1 is last and SFALL4 is first within the animated lump but this had absolutely no effect. I tried going into my texture1 file in slade and reversing the names i.e. changing the name of SFALL1 to SFALL4 etc. but this also had no effect. Finally I copied my wad and deleted the animated lump altogether, hoping to at least reset the situation however the vanilla textures still run in reverse! Help me please I've created something that has a mind of it's own and can't be stopped.
  22. I'm glad no one's voted for Gary Webb because I played his map and found it to be riddled with questionable design decisions and less that stellar gameplay choices. I imagine he must have been going for an ironic deconstruction of the mid 90s mapping style and as such weirdy.wad can be considered a pastiche of the flawed works of the early mapping landscape. That being said I don't accept that as an excuse for a level that proves to be unenjoyable, confused and completely devoid of any challenge or point of interest. 3/10
  23. Scythe 2 - 9 points Super Sonic Doom - 8 points Eternal Doom IV: Return from Oblivion - 8 points Avactor - 6 points Jade Earth - 5 points Eviternity - 5 points Sunder - 5 points Epic 2 - 3 points Hell Revealed - 3 points Memento Mori - 2 points The city of the Damned - Apocalypse - 1 point
  24. Depends on how good you are at Doom. Remember that easier wads can be made to be harder by doing things like playing from pistol start and not saving during a level. Try Sunlust on Hurt me Plenty difficulty, if that's too easy then try some of the other suggestions in this thread. If as I suspect you find that too difficult then I would suggest trying Scythe 2, those maps start out fairly easy but they get really tough from map20 onwards, skip to map23 if you're impatient and see how that goes on Ultra Violence.
  25. For me personally I wouldn't bother. I'd think about what made them bad and try to improve it in my next level. However like @BaileyTW says if you're the sort of person who'd enjoy editing your old stuff then go for it!
