For being the first person to ever make a forum and being one of the first ever members, my hats off to you. Hopefully you return but I highly doubt so considering its been about 9 years.

Okay, so I'm a little late in the week this week, but I still got it together before the week was over. Not to mention I didn't have time to get all my links and such together, but I'll get those up soon enough as well. Here is your window to Doom past: 1998 The first beta of FragMaker (the never finished level editor) was released, as well as a new version of SLIGE, and a /newstuff review of Chex Quest. Other updates include: A DMBot that actually shot from Nexus, and an interview with Doomworld's own Mordeth. We also hit our 100K hit and SLIGE moves in. Ricrob got an excluse release/review of Malcolm Sailor's Chordg. TeamTNT also gave away a copy of Final Doom to their 200K visitor. We were also witness to the release of Tom Mustaine from Ritual's final Doom level. 1999 The release of Doomserv Deathmatch I, from the Skulltag crew, and a ZDoom with some Cajun goodness added. The Parallel Team released their lost level from Frag Fest Initialized. 2000 We were greated with the release of v0.60 of csDoom, as well as some news from the now completed Cavern's of Darkness. 2001 A beta of Doom Soccer was released, along with an interview with JDoom creator Jaakko Keränen. We were also greated with a new and improved version of Wintex. Soon to come, next week's addition of The Week In Doomage.

So here we go with try number two on the "This Week In Doomage" deal with years 98-01. And we're gonna try the only "major" events that happened during this week in Doom years gone by. So without further wasting of time: 1998: TeamTNT redesigned their webpage with the look they still have today, Bruce Lewis of WinDoom announced that over 1000 people bought Doom again just to play WinDoom, and Doomworld got 100,000 hits. 1999: We were treated with the first pictures of Hissy to surface on the internet, as well as the ACE Team mentioning of their TV appearance thanks to the Batman Doom project. And in slightly non-Doom related news, the Son of Generations project was announced after Generations was forced to shut down. 2000 and 2001: 2000 brought us the 3Dactionplanet Doom trivia contest that is still there to be taken. And 2001 gave us Doomcenter's tribute to Episode One and Aardappel releasing version 1.1 of WadC, his Doom level editor coder project. So there you go, short and sweet. Did you like all these good looks back at the world of Doom this week? E-mail me, your thoughts questions and concerns.

I came up with an interesting idea while sifting through my old emails on my computer the other day. Of course the next logical question is: What did I come up with? Well, it's simple, a look back at the world of Doom since Doomworld came into this world. One day of updates for what happened in this week for each year that Doomworld has been around. Of course, what makes this even more interesting is the fact that there are so many missing news items in the archives, and so much stuff in the inbox that just made me laugh. I'm running this week as a test, and if things go well, it could become a regular feature here at Doomworld and who knows, maybe I won't have to do all the work. 1998 The week started off with our friends at Twilight Warrior announcing the winners to their Maximum Prejudice contest. Of course what makes this special is that Twilight Warrior was one of those few projects that was released as it was meant to be, not as is. This was also the week where Carmack announced two new commercial Doom projects, WebTV Doom and WinCE Doom, both of which were supposed to be based off the Boom source code. Shortly after, Bruce Lewis, famed coder of the doomed WinDoom and glDoom project was announced as the man behind the CEDoom project. We also had the introduction of the Team Insanity Insane review on the 2nd, where the entire team would sit down together and rate a level together. And on only the thrid day of the week we were introduced to two new coding projects, PRBoom and SLIGE. PRBoom was of course the Win32 version of TeamTNT's Boom, that eventually became an official part of TeamTNT. SLIGE, well SLIGE was SLIGE. The most advanced automated level creation tool ever released for Doom. Where else could you make a full 32 level megawad in just minutes? And not to leave out the levels either, the third was also the day The Darkening joined Doomworld as well as our /newstuff review of Crestfallen, which was the start of our busiest oldstyle /newstuff ever! On the 4th day, if you were lucky enough to gain entrance to the old IRC stomping grounds on EFnet you would have been greeted by none other than Romero himself as well as Iikka, making for quite an interesting evening for those who were there. Moving on to Day number 5, we had the release of the >GothicDM Texture wad file! This is one of those moments that just changed the look (literally) of many a Doom level for years to come. Of course, being the basis for two of the most famous deathmatch megawads ever, probably had something to do with it as well. SlaughterDM, another poor plauged project that basically got released as is, announced it was to recieve an unfinished level from Iikka Kernan, that would later be finished by Adelusion. And diving into a realm of what might seem to be a little off topic, I got slapped around for the one millionth time by my personal editor, Len Pitre, for screwing something major up, yet again! God knows how many people he saved from misinformation. Only two days left, and yet so much knews, and this is only year one. The 6th day of July led us to the updates about some project known as Ragnorak, by some people known as TeamTNT. If you don't know about this, well, go read up on your history. In inside news, Linguica, our ever lovable webmaster, sent out a nice little email to all the promising projects of our day promoting our new Events section, after the wonderful success we had with Overload. And on the final day, we had the announcement from WinDoom coder Bruce Lewis, that over 1100 people had purchased Doom again just to play WinDoom. How silly they must have feel know, if only they had known. And finally, one more interesting little look at the past from the seventh, as this item showed up in my inbox asking only "Does Doomworld work with Doom2?". Well of course it does silly. That would be the week of July 1st, 1998 in a nutshell. Look for two more days of Doom enjoyment to be coming your way. So please, leave judgement for this little idea till we finish our first week at this. Then we can tweak it and make it perfect, or we can scrap it if you all really hate it that much. I'm going to do my best to make sure I do as good of a job on the links with all this stuff as I can.

Now how many people out there remember the first day Doomworld opened and there were some news posts by some guy named Covaro? Who would have thought so much would have happened over the years, we would have been through so much together. And here we are, over four years since we originally started and I'm back after like a year and a half of hiatus to say hi. Wanna know what I've been up to, you can check out the forums and see what I've been doing in a nutshell, sorta. So here's the trick. Would you like to see some updates on occassion from me? Well, first, e-mail Ling and tell him to get me a Doomworld e-mail address again. Next, send me some mail and tell me how much you miss me. If we are lucky I can bring us some blasts from the past or something, the way only I can do it. God knows, I have enough inside dirt on so many oldschool things it would fill up an entire book. Let your voices be heard, tell the man you want Covaro back! Until the next time...

So you are afraid to play that last Doom level by yourself. Afraid you might get lost if someone doesn't hold your hand? Well, you need to stop by you friends at the Co-Op Certification Laboratory. They'll fix you right up. Their most recent mission, update some old Doom 2 levels for use in Co-op. So therefore, they now present to you Mission wads for DOOM II by Follereau Dominique (Co-op Version). In case you're wondering, the text file accompanying the original wads grants permission to modify/reuse them. We also prominently credit the original author There you guys go. Enjoy. And remember to check out all the other cool stuff they have listed throughout the site.

Anthony Soto has posted more pretty pictures for your enjoyment over at his Fishbowl. Both of which are two new teaser pics from Richard Wiles new "Slayer" series. He has also released a "new" level of his, that is actually quite old. And to top everything else off there is also mention of the Classic epsiode, which he's waiting for somebody to finish their part on. *cough**cough*

After the recent release of the newest beta version of Skulltag, the Skulltag Homepage has been updated with the thoughts of Carnevil on everyone\'s reaction to the latest version. Not to mention he actually got off his butt and updated his Bawx. This is definitely an excellent update to show the overall state of the project and most certainly points in a totally positive direction.

Marc Pullen has updated his Asylum of madness and insanity with news on his latest effort "Delicate Balance". Word on the intelligence (or lack there of) of the duping place seems good. Nothing majorly wrong with the CD, so look for it within the next two weeks or so. Marc also takes some time to mention his career as well as something about updating some of his previous work to be compatible with EDGE 1.25.

The Parallel Team isn't dead after all. Rumors are always not to be believed. News has been revealed on their present, that has been delayed. Mostly because it has grown much more than they had anticipated. But the big news, the thing that everyone wants to know: "What is going on with PD2?". Well folks, they are giving you their answer. And to tell you the truth, sounds quite tasty if you ask me.

Unholy Software has updated again with news on their project status as well as a little buzz on 10 sectors. Seems a little break was in order for Unholy, cause they are now back in full swing again. So just goes to show you, in a rut, take a nice long break from everything.

And heads on over here to DW. About time too I might add. Mord has updated with a new look to the site as well with the usual state of the project. Some news on the engine, some news on the new levels. Some talk about 10 sectors again. Man, what is it with this 10 sectors stuff? But you know you wanna mosey on over and check it all out.
-
Unholy Software has updated with a little map news, a little music news, a little buzz about 10 Sectors or something like that. What is this whole thing going on about 10 Sectors? Doesn't it take a bit more to make a map? But go on and check out the update. Got some of the usual Unholy flavored goodness all about it.

And one of those would be IcarusWing, with his IcarusWeb. That's right, issue nine is upon us. Heading in on towards double digits here folks. This time it covers the 10 Sector contest some silly little Doom site is running, as well as the usual review, editorial, and more. Go take a gander and always remember to renew your subscription.
