@baja blast rd. Good point, I heard TNT music in PWADs before I played the actual TNT so I also have a soft spot for those tracks.

@aloysiusfreeman Ah I'm even less in the loop when it comes to TV, but I got around to seeing what the big deal was with Breaking Bad and its prequel sister series Better Call Saul like 3-4 months ago and was very pleasantly surprised that they lived up to the hype. Some of the best written (and beautifully shot) media I've ever seen, so much so it's now set a stupidly high standard and now I don't know what else to watch that'll come close.

Film is the worst it's ever been, and while I'm not gonna pretend games market doesn't suffer from oversaturation or that a lot of mainstream music is bland I'd argue there's a lot of games and music still you can enjoy that is modern, because there's just so much of it it's a given there's modern something or other of something that appeals to your sensibilities. Film? Yeah I'm gonna be a boomer about that and not go past 2011 or so and even then my favorite era of film is the late 70s to mid-late 90s. It's amazing how much trash gets churned out on the silver screen these days, so much soulless overinflated budget ugly CG looking shit. Yeah I know there's good indie films still, but unless they're being name-dropped around the clock I'll never know they exist. I can name two films I liked in recent years and they were both sequels to a series I already enjoyed, Scream.

Ironically Running From Evil because of so many single map replacements that used MAP01 and didn't change the music. I clown on it sometimes because it's kind of a meme track but in reality it makes me reminisce simpler times of freer time and early youth. Otherwise megawads like the Memento Moris, Requiem, Operation: Biowar and even GothicDM are very nostalgic for me due to the abundance of Mark Klem and David Shaw's music which I say is as iconic as Robert Prince's tracks themselves. E: @Xaser You say Metallica and I raise you NIN and Nirvana, whose midi diddies do an absolute service to the early Doom days.

Game that everybody likes but you dislike

I'm in that weird camp where I think nothing else has come close to the perfection that was Wolfenstein 3D. Though I will echo the sentiment that RTCW was the last good Wolfenstein game, even though I think it starts phenomenal and ends in a trainwreck when the difficulty goes off the rails. TNO also has the same aforementioned fatal problem by its endgame but really I don't care for where MachineGames took the franchise and find its entries super overrated. -
This is very true, my play style is not very aggressive unless I'm thrust right into an inescapable situation, if I can I much prefer to relocate to a safer spot and use choke points where possible, in fact I use cover to my advantage and stall tactics against large formations of foes if the map allows me to do so. In some cases this can be considered cheesing or camping but if it enables your survival then by all means go for it. Otherwise your reflexes better be sharp and your target prioritization paramount, I often rely on infighting to make things easier for me as well. And I'll just say also to OP if killing all the enemies means potentially being low or running out of ammo for the next map if you play continuous like I do then maybe it's a good idea to just leave some stragglers behind, especially if they can't get to you. I usually like getting all kills but sometimes it's not realistic, especially if the last monster is a cyberdemon that isn't in your way, fuck him lol just leave. E: I further emphasize cover because RetroAhoy's excellent video on Doom at one point mentions that hiding behind cover will do you no good in Doom. This is a lie, even in the IWADs.

Episode 4 of Blood was my least favorite episode because its theming is all over the place, meanwhile my favorite episode was 2. -
Yeah considering ROTT '13 is a decade old now I would hope they'd come a long ways since their early days. They're clearly a passionate studio, they have access to good tech, so unless their skill set just never evolved during all that time then idk wtf is the deal then.

I didn't think BioShock was anything super special, I was underwhelmed. It started honestly not that great, I didn't care for Medical Pavilion but it got better at I think Fisherman's Wharf, much better actually for a while, before ending on such a whatever note and I was just tired of the game once Andrew Ryan died. I might like the sequels I might not. I thought the game world looked amazing, but the gameplay serviceable at best to just downright bad at times. -
Sometimes it's really annoying when you have the worst luck with damage rolls, for me typically a hell noble or revenant projectile (especially if the rev missile persists and makes the perfect course for your position despite having thought flanking it) or just a chaingun guy who seems to suck away your life like a blood slurpee in a couple seconds, an archvile sniping you when you thought you were clear of it, wasting a soul or megasphere to something really stupid, botching the BFG at close range, the list goes on. But that having been said and also having an admittedly pretty negative attitude on a lot of things in life because I have anger issues I have not found my limit in Doom yet, even though I thought I might have a couple of times. Some WADs just suck, like HR2 imo, and sometimes you have bad days, sometimes you gotta put it down and return to it later. If push comes to absolute shove and no amount of savegame grace will afford me to get through it without the nauseating thought of running to GZDoom to use some OP weapon mod I'll shrug and consider lowering the damn difficulty level if they're supported. But I have to actually like the map(s) and the gameplay it provides for me to consider sticking with it in the first place. Not everything is going to be designed with your sensibilities or your skill set in mind.

As Below So Above (Beta version of New Map)
Lila Feuer replied to Cybernight Zero's topic in WAD Releases & Development
It seems like it could've made for a decent little secret level with its obvious homage to E4M1, I like the sky, I couldn't find a rocket launcher and I exited the map prematurely methinks seeing as I didn't get into the area with the cyberdemon. Didn't die but I didn't find any secrets, 84% kills, can be finished in under 10 minutes. -

No wonder Scythe II was so hard for me, it's practically near the bottom of the list. That is one I could've done better on, especially the last five maps, I pretty much gave up at the time and started throwing in multiple saves in a short window just to bring the tension down with a bunch of the fights. Alien Vendetta is funny, the last ten or so get slaughter-y but really the one that is designed to make one reconsider limited saving is MAP26: Dark Dome, just comes out of nowhere with one of if not the hottest start I've ever seen and it seems like nowhere is safe and it's just a long grueling slog, my-then key saves basically went out the window the moment that map showed up. I didn't think Hell Revealed 1 was all that bad upon revisiting it last time but I do recall MAP23: Ascending to the Stars being kind of a fucking bitch with limited saves. HR2 was downright unplayable at some points but I don't see it on that list which might be a testament to its fuckheadedness. -
Well I lived up to MAP22: Suicide Mission's name in Plutonia Revisited. I think I'm going to blow myself up with the rocket launcher at a door closing in my face until the end of time.

What Video Game Are You Currently Playing?
Lila Feuer replied to Neurosis's topic in Everything Else
@Vanilla+Unicorn Dark Souls is one I've been meaning to get back to, I feel terrible that I got to Anor Londo and basically just stopped playing for some reason. I have no idea how much of the game I actually saw but I'd wager a guess maybe around fifty something percent? For a first time playthrough I actually did really well, going in knowing how this type of game is suppose to work, but I still made loads of newbie mistakes and I'm tempted to start over with my fresh knowledge of all things that pertain to soulsborne games. -

@AmethystViper I'm pretty sure all the things the definitive edition added were already mods for the PC version, they just rolled them into the console version. -
