I'll entertain the concept of this thread and you can't prove me wrong with this one: No way to go back after reaching the exit area because the author decided to lock you off from the rest of the map. Outside of incredibly specific thematics with logical cutoffs due to an altered reality or corrupted mirror dimension I don't think some steps too tall to climb back up to or a one-way door that ISN'T on a long timer is done for immersion. You could say "use savegames" but maybe my play style doesn't conform to the savegame norm, I don't like spamming, I prefer a backup save at the beginning of the map and I use mid-level saves sparingly, usually for when I reach milestones (X amount or % of monsters killed, all items collected or secrets discovered.) This is such a pet peeve and possibly uncommon enough it doesn't ruin most levels, but it happens just enough to make me irritated each time it happens because it very rarely makes sense.

I should inform that MAP13 of Number One Kill: The Next Generation crashes upon loading or warping into, this didn't happen in prior releases. P_LoadSegs: linedef 2223 for seg 3761 references a non-existent sidedef 65535

Reached Act V last night on Hell difficulty in Diablo II, could really benefit from a new rare (or one of the unique) javelin, not that my current one is bad or anything but it is starting to show its age damage-wise. These seem to be especially uncommon weapon drops in the game, and if it's Amazon specific javelins forget it, I can count on one hand the amount of maiden, ceremonial and matriarchal javs I've seen in the near 3 months of playing on one hand. I've been using a rare hyperion jav since I started Hell difficulty. Act IV was significantly easier than Act III however, but that said the Council members and Mephisto at the end were pushovers, and even Diablo himself wasn't that bad, he just had a little more health, didn't die once. I am worried about those Ancients however at the end of Act V. -
Here's another indie that's been out for a decade and still isn't on GOG: https://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/they_bleed_pixels "We need GOG to love us back!" I recall the dev saying years ago.

Did 30 something Nightmare Baal runs in Diablo II and leveled up to 82 with my Amazon before going back to Hell difficulty. Got a lot of new gear for me and my merc and maxed out all but poison resistance. Ready to get through Act 3 again after stopping at Upper Kurast. It's been a total bitch in ways I didn't think were possible, but turns out having better equipment and not shit resistances really improves your survival rate! -
I played the demo on the highest difficulty and really liked what I saw a while back, congratulations on the release!

@Rudolph I think it's a great game, it's an excellent sequel, but I like the first game more in other departments even if the gameplay is scaled back significantly. Blizzard had the least involvement in it and it shows, meanwhile Act 5 from the expansion almost feels like a different game tonally. I just blew through the true tomb of Tal Rasha by locating the exit ASAP and killing Duriel to get out of Act 2. Good thing you never lose the Horadric Cube when you finish the game the first time because I couldn't get past the first room of the Halls of the Dead due to serious elite mob bullshittery. Things should be a lot better from hereon out, at least until I get to the Ancients in Act 5, which are worse than Baal himself. -

Act 2 on Hell difficulty in Diablo II is so fucking bipolar, most outdoor areas are a breeze due to significantly less dangerous enemies from Act 1, but indoors via the tombs the mummies are so much worse than before. I only just now got access to the palace after the grueling venture that was the head of the staff in the claw viper temple, which might I add was made infinitely worse because of the goddamn MUMMIES, not the serpents themselves. -
Guys really play like this and see no issue with it.

Finished Nightmare at level 73, Baal was a complete pushover, as was his minions. The 350% damage to demons bonus I'm enjoying as of recent is trivializing the majority of the game's cast. I'm reaching level 75 before moving onto Hell. I'm not looking forward to the severe reduction in resistances. -
Yeah seeing a post I made in here that long ago filled me with serious existential dread. That said this FATMAN and ESS FM synth soundfont sound interesting, I've been using OPL-3_FM_128M and it is very close but some notes are still off from how I remember back in the day.

An extremely overdue completion of Diablo II LoD (started with a Barbarian in 2011 and stopped before Diablo and just recently beat it with an Amazon) and now going through it again on Nightmare. I've died like 20 times. Glad your corpse is teleported back to town when you exit and reenter because sometimes you just run right into an elite mob the moment you enter indoors and have no time to react. That said I'm having a total blast and almost cleared Act 1 in a couple days, just imbued a superior ceremonial javelin with the malus and rolling along pretty well at level 45. -
classic doom games are better than the modern games
Lila Feuer replied to DoctorKlump's topic in Doom General
I wouldn't call nu-Doom a cashgrab, they have far too much effort put into them, this isn't EA we're talking about here. I'm not invested in the lore and world building of Doom Eternal at all or care what they've done with the stylistic change from '16 but the combat's probably the best it's ever been. I prefer Doom 3 for a "modern" take and would like to see a return to the horror aspects of the earlier entries. -
Beat the Scythe "trilogy" in a row as I was late to the scene with it, late last year, excellent stuff, even if I did find the last 5 maps of Scythe II to be way too hard (then again, you did warn UV was going to be insane in the readme). Hope you're doing well, and thank you for your contributions to this community!

Ground Zero for Quake II, haven't played it since GOG got Q2, it's not nearly as "bad" as I remember it being, even on Hard+, it's nice to see Q2 actually challenge the player, The Reckoning was decent at this but still a little too easy. I have to actively avoid quad damage, invulnerability and power armor in the base game and still don't find it even remotely tough, just tricky at times depending on the placement of Gunners. -
Reached MAP12 of A.L.T. after someone mentioned it in here a few pages back. What an absolute sleeper hit of a megawad, I had no idea this thing existed and have been thoroughly enjoying it. Not sure why the new sounds were so panned, they're fine to me, I've certainly heard worse, and the mapping is very creative, expansive and with a great atmosphere.

The Aliens TC by Justin Fisher via Woof! and some personal cosmetic addons (altered playpal, new statbar, sky replacement, reduced ammo values via dehacked) for the first time proper, onto the third map. This is a must-play in my opinion for Alien fans and has aged shockingly well, definitely recommend to turn the music off and just take things slowly as you navigate. I'm also playing with fast monsters on because I figure, they're Xenomorphs, you've seen how fleet of foot they are in the films, so combat feels very intense, especially down in the Alien infested bowels of Hadley's Hope.

Thought that was odd, like the restart option with setting to reload a game.

I hold run, it feels more tactile lol

Yep that's literally what happened to me, wow, in my 24 years of playing I don't think this has ever been triggered, I must've gotten really (un)lucky. Now I know what the emulation submenu pertains to at least, I'll have to disable those on my next game.

There has been a very bizarre bug I've triggered that I didn't even know was possible. I reached MAP21 of Kama Sutra and not too long after dealing with a shit ton of archviles and approaching an area with an invul and a bunch of imps and cacos the collision detection in the game mysteriously broke, none of my shots registered on enemies and theirs didn't either and I could (partially) clip into the geometry, I also couldn't pick up items like aforementioned invul. I still took melee damage however. Can't tell what caused this to happen but it started with the last cacodemon seeming to be a ghost monster somehow, until I noticed my rocket splash damage wasn't harming it. This is a vanilla wad and I'm on vanilla compatibility, so unless it's a (very rare?) vanilla bug it's pretty concerning as this is the first instance I've had of such a thing. E: Not sure if it's because of the window at the beginning, I noticed sometimes my shotgun shells didn't register through it yet my rockets did. Then the BFG blast I unleashed outside was "eaten" by the geometry (like how rockets sometimes go through some walls). My problem started when I was aggroing visible Cacos who were deaf near the invul with the chaingun, so idk if it was something to do with my bullets passing over some line or if the architecture is just fucky and I unintentionally broke collision that way, I couldn't reproduce it.

Oh cool, I didn't grab the games on Steam yet because they never go on sale (should've figured that wasn't a good sign) and now they're gone. Imagine that, scrubbing the very thing your engine was named after, 24 years later. I hope an outrage gets sparked to put the titles back up, that literally does nothing but hurt history and archival purposes. There's plenty of games on the market with no working multiplayer because the servers were shut down ages ago, you're just killing the single player and possibly entire single player mapping scenes and modding communities as a result of it.

Yep, they affect damage received and output, it isn't so drastic as to make it cheap but it makes things more appropriately stressful. I played like 60 hours on Xbox game pass earlier in the year of the base game, and now 20 hours in on PC. Coming off of New Vegas which I played first I can see the difference in writing and quest lines like it's day and night, but I still really like the game world and don't mind things even being scaled back content volume-wise compared to NV. The most egregious sin is probably the state of things, as it proves Bethesda didn't really understand what makes Fallout, well, Fallout. It's suppose to be the post-apocalypse, but it looks like the bombs dropped a couple decades prior. Atmosphere is more akin to something like the Metro series or even STALKER. That said I dig the environments and find the gameplay loop and exploration to be on par with NV.
