  1. What is the DWmegawad Club? This is a place where we settle down, have a cup of tea (or drink of your choice) and take a month to play through a megawad on our own, together! Any keen observations, criticisms, or frustrated ranting about it goes here in the discussion. As long as you want to say something about what you've played, feel free to speak your mind. Can I join? Sure. The only rule is that you have to play at least some of the levels in our monthly megawad to contribute, but you're generally encouraged to finish the whole thing, even if you've played it before. What levels am I allowed to post about? Whatever day of the month it is, is the upper limit for the map you can post on. So if it’s the 6th, you may discuss up to MAP06. Do I have to post an entry every day? Nope, not at all. This is only for our more enthusiastic members. As long as you play through it with us you’re part of the club. When do we vote on the next month’s megawad? Voting begins on the 25th of the current month. Remember to add one “+++” before your vote to make it easier to count. For example: +++ Ultimate Doom Note that you can vote for up to three separate nominations in a single month, and every wad must contain at least three maps each. The winning nomination must receive at least four votes for a thread to be made. Ties will be decided by RNG. ---------- >>>DOWNLOAD OPERATION: BIOWAR HERE<<< >>>DOWNLOAD EQUINOX HERE<<< After a brief hiatus, we’re back with two classic wads! First up is Operation: BIOWAR, a megawad mostly created by Chris Harbin that follows in the footsteps of projects like Icarus: Alien Vanguard and Memento Mori. After that is B.P.R.D.’s Equinox, a mighty adventure through some glittering silver space stations. Note that we’ll begin playing Equinox on the 18th, meaning that the last two maps of Biowar will be played on the same day. 2. Three nasty maps for sickos only
  3. Don't worry folks, Realm of Chaos 2 is in a good place—actually, maybe too good of a place? Despite waiting on 2 more maps to get finished, we actually have over 32 completed maps and have been trying to figure out what to do with them. Steve has been toying with the idea of a fourth episode, although we're unsure if that might be a little too much chaos. That, and we're still trying to figure out a good order for the megawad, considering that a couple of these maps are diabolically long journeys. Anyway, here's a couple more screenshots to rev your engines at.
  4. Moonlight has been updated. Nothing groundbreaking here—fixed a missing hint, moved a couple nodes around, and added one more hint for skill 2. A big change I made was something that's been bothering me since the original release: that the hint system always displays in Boom-related ports. I hate forcing people to play in ports they don't prefer, and considering the popularity of DSDA now, I bit the bullet and reworked how the hint system works. So now instead of hint linedefs being marked as shown (and thus appearing at the start of the stage in Boom ports), I hide them behind midtextures so they show up naturally when the player looks in their direction. This took a while to piece together, as I had to find good spots to put the midtex walls (and had to make a new midtex just for one hint). That and DSDA had issues in certain rooms displaying all the linedefs at once, as revealing linedefs on the automap appears to be height based? I dunno. In any case, at least Moonlight can be properly played in other ports now (although dying will still softlock the player but oh well it fits thematically). I'll probably bump this thread one more time to update it with the notes I made during construction.
  5. Very true! All good points. I think in my ideal scenario I'd have an "anniversary" thread up at the same time as a regular new thread—for instance, "DW plays Memento Mori Again" while something like "DW plays Auger;Zenith" is going on at the same time. Big issue there is I wouldn't want to split potential interest for both wads, nor do I want to run a second club at all. Could be something I save for August perhaps, the anniversary month for the club.
  6. B-baka! If you wanted to bump it with your thoughts that's A-OK with me, I remember doing that for one or two mapsets I couldn't finish in the past.
  7. lol tell your personal psychosis "nice try"—the winning vote is supposed to have four votes, and the past few months I've been bending the rules by letting the winner skate by on three. The club was slowly trending in this direction and I probably would've brought this up if the winner kept getting only 3 votes (as my reasoning is I don't want to maintain the club for only 3 people). Plus I'd discourage casting pity votes unless it's for someone that's been trying to vote for something for like 3 years. The club has rotated major (mainstay) personnel about... 3? 4? times in my estimation. Maybe more since I stopped participating. Longstanding commitments are impossible to maintain over huge periods of time unless this stuff comes kinda naturally to you (like it seems to for cannonball, the dude is a map-making, map-commenting machine). Part of it is exhaustion, part of it is that folks have played what they wanted to play, and another part can be that sometimes you want to run through a mapset in full without having to dredge up something to say for the 10th speedmap in the set. It could be that we'd see a surge in activity if we covered ye olde classics again (AV, MM, HR), but I'm still unsure how I'd want to go about doing that. Like Horus & Celestin said, there's still a LOT more out there, and I'd feel bummed if people wanted to always go back to the community's most popular wells. It isn't! Three months into our first year during our review of JENESIS it was just me, mouldy, and Crusader No Regret posting about the megawad, which is what prompted me to realize that we need more than 3 people participating to make these threads worth it (imo). We took November off and then things continued trucking along ever since. Participation has always waned and waxed of course, but voting has been a much stronger indicator of where folks are at for next month. The less votes, the less likely people are to swing by and stay.
  8. Hey all, we've finally hit a record low for next month's votes (5 people voted, max votes are 2 for Good Morning Phobos, 2 for Autophagy) and as such I'm (currently) not going to make a topic for May. I might bump this thread at the end of the month to see if people wanna participate in June, otherwise I don't think it's all too terrible to go on a small hiatus until more support organically pops-up. I weighed the idea of making a thread if like 8 people signed up to participate next month, but I don't like the insinuation that folks are contractually obligated to write stuff or the club dies. Sound good?
  9. Hi hi! I am doing well and it gladdens my heart to see another soul brave the lunar temple! This bump reminded me that I needed to update the wad because one of the hints on skill 2 doesn't show up properly :P Also, please PM me your non-spoiler notes! I have a folder I keep of everyone's notes and I love seeing how folks organize their thoughts, deductions, and key information. Enough time has passed that I'll probably update this thread with a post-mortem of some sort.

  11. Merciless-halfway.jpg

Finally reached the halfway point on Merciless—roughly 16 maps to go, 3 of which need to be made from scratch. Here's to hoping the other half doesn't take like 12 more years!!!! !! ! !! !! ! !!!!

Holy cow, these look beautiful. Also, it's frightening to imagine what a dobu gabu maru wad called "Merciless" would play like.

Merciless is where I'm sticking a bunch of small maps/ideas that are too difficult for public consumption. Generally with community projects I participate in I usually have to tone things down, but Merciless gets the opposite treatment—I ratchet stuff up until it's not fun anymore. Skills 1/2 should be enjoyable for everybody but everything else is for sickos only.

  12. Damn this stuff is fan-tas-tic. Didn't realize how sleek the texture pack is, it's like someone took a palette knife to it.

  14. Took a long time to get the midtex to be a different light level than the floor & ceiling.
  15. I've finally updated the OP. The mapsets are short enough that secret maps can get their own individual days. Heartland starts on 2/12, and Sigil 2 starts on 2/20.
