When I worked for a K-pop studio we would often go to the beach, movie theater, theme park, bowling, mini golf etc. but if there was still work to be done at the studio we would have to go back afterward to complete it, even if it meant working well into the night because deadlines don't change and we were all paid salary, and we couldn't stay at the studio while everyone else did the activity because we had to be a team. There was also a competitive tone to every activity dictated by the whims of the owner and his wife, with winners receiving substantial cash rewards and losers having to clean toilets or park far away and have to walk uphill through the neighborhoods of Laurel Canyon to get to the studio. Every Monday morning was "voluntary worship" where a Christian preacher would come in to speak and lead in worship songs and prayers. It was "voluntary", but those who didn't participate were either made to feel so unwelcome by the owners and their lackeys that they left the company or would eventually be let go for various reasons. After a one-on-one conversation with the owner at a lunch meeting about how vital I was to the studio's success and growth, and discussing all the plans going forward, the studio shut down during the pandemic and I was let go. Later on while working at a local Target, I was grateful anytime they would bring in pizza or a taco truck while doing overtime during holidays and special occasions, because the only thing that was required of me was to do my normal job and go home on time while enjoying free food.

Diablo 2 has really satisfying sound effects for combat and inventory items. The sound design is probably one of the biggest reasons the game as a whole is so addictive.

Having found the medieval fantasy elements to be the least interesting aspect of Doom Eternal, after watching the Dark Ages trailer I think in this case it's Doom that might be holding the rest of the game back. Doomslaying aside, the game itself looks right up my alley. The setting looks great and the over-the-top weapons are creative and look very satisfying to use. Spiked flails are far and above my favorite medieval fantasy weapon and this one looks like it works exactly how I'd want it to. Would I rather see a Heretic or Hexen sequel, or even something completely unrelated? Sure, but this looks like a really fun game either way. Eternal seemed to divide players and even though I don't hate it, I'd still put myself in the "hater" camp overall; Dark Ages seems like it will be just as divisive but inversely so, and based on what I've seen from the trailer and heard in the interviews, I'm much more likely to be into it than I was with Eternal.

-Countless hours of Doom and or Doom 2 without question, including all the source ports, wads and mods over the years. Probably the only game(s) in the actual thousands for me. -World of Warcraft would be fairly high up there for the few years I played it. Anywhere from 4 to 12 hours a day for at least two years. -Lot of stoned hours at a friend's house with Tony Hawk's Underground 2 and American Wasteland on PS2, mostly playing horse. We also played a comparable amount of NHL 06 and 07. -Final Fantasy XII on PS2 knowing full well it was the "worst" one, but I enjoyed it a lot. -Demon's Souls on PS3, GTA III and Vice City on PS2, tons more games on PS3, PS2, Dreamcast, SNES, etc. (Magnavox Odyssey 2 lol I didn't have an Atari) If only there was a way to account for all I played on any given platform or service. Anyway, here's a list of every Steam game I put any time into at all. I had played many more hours of some of them on consoles before getting a decent computer but there they are.

I don't know how I've gone my whole life without seeing the first three Mad Max films, but I finally watched them all for the first time over the past three days, and they're each as entertaining as their reputation, and I just might watch them all again!

Freelance Level Designer Help! Pipedream or worthwhile?
Lippeth replied to BluePineapple72's topic in Everything Else
I've been using Upwork, Fiverr and SoundBetter for the past few months to find freelance gigs for sound editing and mixing and general audio/music related gigs, but have had zero responses so I hope you are better at selling yourself than I am. Building a portfolio on Fiverr and Upwork might be a good start, there's always someone in the world looking for something you're qualified to do, though I can't say how saturated it is for competition in any field that isn't sound design. The freelance gigs I do get are from contacts I made well before Covid, so luckily they get me through the hardest times. -
I've been playing a lot of Fallout games, mostly 3 and New Vegas, but a little of 1 and 4 as well. New Vegas has some great characters and story beats, and 3 has excellent exploration and dungeon crawling which keeps me going back and forth between both and preventing me from picking a favorite. I had never played more than an hour of any Fallout game until watching the show only a few weeks ago, and after putting in hundreds of hours and completing the main quests in each game multiple times and in multiple ways, I have come to a conclusion: For a role playing series with numerous branching paths and contradictory story beats, people sure do like to argue about what is and isn't "canon" and who does or doesn't understand Fallout. Edit: I do want to take a moment to express something that really gets under my skin about some of the quests in these games, and that's when the ui lists optional choices rather than letting me discover alternative choices by naturally making them. Instead of feeling like I have agency over what my character does in the game and then experiencing the the consequences of my actions, I'm now preemptively put on the spot to make a choice between several specific paths, which really takes me out of the whole computer role playing experience and to be honest, kind of exhausts me because now my brain has categorized an ever growing list of alternative routes to take should I decide to play the game again which draws my attention away from what actually did happen while playing the game. Below is an example which contains spoilers for a Caesar's Legion quest in Fallout: New Vegas

The medieval fantasy stuff was my least favorite aspect of Doom Eternal, and makes me think someone wants to have their cake and eat it too by making a Heretic or Hexen type game but with the sales of a Doom game.

The last book I bought is called Zen and the Art of Mixing which is like a technical manual for the more philosophical aspects about mixing music and audio. I've enjoyed what little I've read so far, though it sits on an end table next to me while I play video games or actually mix or produce music. I don't read that much in general, and when I do, it's usually reference guides that aren't designed to be read from front to back. The most common type of non-fiction books I own are Brady Games strategy guides, or game guides in general. A total aside: I can't usually sit still to read longer than a few minutes without getting an urge to do anything else, and before I know it my eyes have gone several pages forward while my mind is thinking about something else or even dwelling on one part that I had previously read. It's even worse with audio books because I actually am doing something else and often end up focusing on the timbre and cadence of the speaker rather than what's being said, or again, letting something they've said trigger me into thinking about a topic while the voice keeps speaking which disrupts my own thought.

Will the next doom game release this year or next year?

It doesn't currently include audio logs, though thank you for the reminder! I remember unsuccessfully messing with that a few years ago after reading it being an issue for many, though now that I feel more comfortable it might be worth looking into again.

I love Hexen as much if not more than Doom, including the art style, combat and exploration/puzzles but can usually empathize with most of the criticism it gets.
