This is what I did in one of my mods before widescreen assets were standardized. One 320-wide graphic for the center, and one 320-wide graphic tiled a few times on both sides. Simple, effective, no fuss. Trov's proposal feels very wheel-reinvention-y, to be honest. Expectations? What? Adding a DECORATE lump doesn't immediately mandate that you fill every map with complex scripting and purple lighting. Just use the features you want (BOOM maps, the occasional custom critter) and ignore the ones you don't care for. It worked for Tarnsman's Projectile Hell, it can work for you!

I don't think I've played anything past BO1, outside of a couple of minutes of MW2 (2022)'s F2P DMZ mode (although I'll certainly be remedying that once they hit Game Pass - sounds like that'll be in a couple of month's time?) so with that limited experience, probably MW2 (2009). Good dumb rollercoaster campaign and some lovely multiplayer, albeit I was playing on console (I'd probably have a different opinion if I was on PC, since that was the game where mods and dedicated servers were put to the sword, at least for a while) I think I have a copy of MW3 (2011) on 360 I snatched up out of the pre-owned bin at some point, but I never got around to playing it. One day I'll just do a big tour of the entire franchise in some form or another. I've heard Infinite Warfare is real good, even through the eyes of people who don't like COD at the best of times. I remember beating COD1 at some point, but not the expansion. Don't remember if I beat COD2, or even really played it that much. One day I'll sit down and give COD3 or the other console-exclusive PS2-era spinoffs a proper whack once a good emulator/M+KB hack combo eventuates. Think I beat COD4? Definitely beat MW2. Only got a couple levels into BO1, then I kind of wasn't in a position to buy the games annually for quite a while. Oh, and I gave the Nintendo DS version of COD4 a quick kick around at some point. I need to explore those weird portable games more. Prooobably not the NGage one though, it's not amazing even in the hallowed category of NGage FPS games. :V Sorry if you were expecting some cynical, dismissive response like the first reply, I know it's a forum dedicated to old-school FPSes, after all! But I have a little piece of my heart put aside for heavily-scripted hyper-linear rollercoaster-spectacle FPSes as a bit of a sometimes food. Got through most of Medal of Honor: Allied Assault (the game most of the founding COD1 team made before splitting from 2015 Inc and forming Infinity Ward) and just put it down on the ground after reaching That Fucking Sniper Town Level. Maybe I should poke at the expansion packs, god knows there were enough of them shits.

Probably considerably less likely, sadly. The Descent games are an odd situation where Interplay only owns the "Descent" trademark and the publishing rights to sell the games, and the actual game code is owned by Parallax Software (which still exists as a legal entity). Later games after the split into Volition and Outrage would be under very different more traditional legal deals (ie. the publisher probably owns it), meaning it would likely be tied up in all the Embracer Group shit.

Yep: It's finally out. MIT license, and approved by the rights-holder. Some missing bits for reasons, though, so it'll take a minute to get into a compiling state. In the meantime, you can enjoy all the finely-aged relics of turn-of-the-millennium gamedev, like changelogs and entire-ass conversations being held in code comments. The Descent 1 & 2 code has been out for a good while, resulting in very good source ports that make running the game on modern systems with all the trimmings cake. D3, on the other hand, is a much rougher experience (especially if you wanna run in a window - good luck!) with the best options requiring DLL code injection to iron out as much of the issues as is feasible via such awkward methods. I'm very excited by the possibility of better solutions!

The GZDoom console command togglehud will hide the HUD, the player weapon and all other 2D elements like HudMessages until you open the console or a menu. I have it bound to a key for convenience (bind o togglehud) Great for combining with freeze and noclip2 as a makeshift Photo Mode!

If a nuclear war blows all of the servers to smithereens, you're going to have far bigger problems to worry about than whether or not you can download goatdoom.zip

Doom's had achievements since 1994. Keep up, slackers.

IIRC the "Z" in ZDoom stands for "Randi wanted it to be at the very bottom of any listings of source ports"

EDuke32 still requires a stopgap mod to run the World Tour content properly.

It's good background noise for a barbeque, there's enough downtime between anything happening that everyone can maintain their conversations and enjoy their eats and drinks. Very dangerous to be around if you're a beer, mind.

Not out of the box, no. There are plans and prototypes for ZScript to be able to manipulate the bones of skeletal models in code. It's not out of the question that someone could try to hack together a rough ragdoll system using that functionality, some copious linetrace abuse, and the patience of a monk... but it'd take a vast amount of blood, sweat and tears to create something that would likely look crap and be very expensive on performance.

References to the Reich make your path through the age classification system in some countries considerably harder. And in many cases, those countries buy a lot of PC games. I can't say I blame Id or Xbox or whoever for not having the appetite for getting into that kind of brawl and potentially delaying or stymieing sales over a couple of words in a scan of some coffee-stained old printouts. Especially when they'll have plenty of time to wrangle their way through all that for the new Indiana Jones game Machinegames has been doing...

This seems like the kind of thing it's impossible to diagnose without your DH file.

Another hotfix has been released that actually fixes the Jackpot Dice crash on GZDoom 4.10.0. Turns out we were inadvertantly relying on a logic bug that got fixed on the engine side. Oops! We're good at this, I swear. Please use GZDoom 4.11.X or later to play Reelism 2 now! 4.10.0 has a bug with the Ape Lincoln boss.

(* for the 3DO) And no, it's not a joke. Well, I mean... what I'm saying is, there's a Steam page so it's like an actual thing as opposed to a goofy Photoshop. I'm both surprised and not that this is happening. Surprised because PO'ed was hardly the most-loved of games, and not surprised because Kaiser's love of it is far from a secret. Games like this are actually probably a good use-case for remakes and remasters, taking the weird and interesting ideas from the original and seeing if you can iron out a few of the flaws and untie some of the kinks, instead of piling yet more polish on an already pretty-shiny statue. (Not that there's anything wrong with that, mind.)

Usually when I'm making a mod, I just come up with a temporary name on the spot, just for something to name the files. When the mod gets closer to the point where it can be shown off or released, you'll have a better idea what to call it since it's more fully formed with its own voice and personality. So... just call it whatever is the first thing to come to mind for now, and when it comes time to inflict it on the world, it'll tell you what it wants to be called itself.

Eternity has an entire subforum here, to be fair, though to also be fair the maintainers are currently all very busy with Night Dive Stuff so it’s not the busiest place on Earth.

How do y'all deal with indecisiveness in gaming?
Kinsie replied to Dweller Dark's topic in Everything Else
I mean, I definitely get the whole decision paralysis thing. I have the same giant backlog as everyone else. But there’s only two ways to deal with it: either play random stuff, or uninstall random stuff and kick those particular fans a bit further down the road. -
How do y'all deal with indecisiveness in gaming?
Kinsie replied to Dweller Dark's topic in Everything Else
That's a problem for future you to deal with. Pick one, play it for an hour or two, and if you're not enjoying it, move on to another. -
This isn't about games they "don’t profit from anymore", it's about games they still actively sell, with the tearing point being a game that technically hadn't came out yet.

Dogg, asset flips use commercially-produced assets sold on the open market. They're supposed to be used by other developers. They've been doing this for literal decades, my man. From simple text strings in Magic Carpet 1 through to elaborate steganography patterns subtly overlaid over the screen in private beta builds of World of Warcraft through to just overlaying the player's username over the screen in constantly changing places in the Skate 4 internal builds. And even a few more creative ways, like private betas of the Xbox 360 dashboard overhaul... Basically, this is an extremely common practice already, and some middleware to automate the process isn't going to make it any less common.

My seemingly-finished-but-not-really MetaDoom map
Kinsie replied to EyeBallTank's topic in WAD Releases & Development
Played through a chunk of it and completed the red keys section before it crashed when I tried to save (probably my fault, let's be honest). Pretty fun! Good usage of the new enemies to spice things up. I might have to do my own version of the fire traps, they're a fun addition! Could do with a little attention on the lighting though, everything's a bit bright and flat. Gave some minor modifications to merge everything together into a proper-ish PK3 for ease of play. All it needs now is to be run alongside MetaDoom itself. https://www.mediafire.com/file/wb3ayqmhmrwdt89/EyeBallTank_pk3test.pk3/file
