What’s the best version of duke nukem?
mrthejoshmon replied to ALilGrayBoi's topic in Everything Else
Don't forget Calibrations, which contains the music from World Tour. I would buy them now but I already have bought them and I unfortunately can't buy twice :( - The Zoom platform bundle is great for acquiring the full Duke package if you didn't get the old versions, it is the only way to legally obtain the no longer sold expansions (Nuclear Winter, Duke it out, Caribbean... Even fucking Penthouse Paradise) which you can then easily plug into EDuke32, all it lacks is World Tour content. -
New games are fun, you are not playing the right ones. New games to consider: Trepang2 is super cool Severed Steel is great, pretty, stylish... Can't wait for it's successor Echo Point Nova Helldivers 2 is actually pretty good Total War titles, despite recent fan reception, remains great fun. Darktide, despite somewhat shallow depth, has a great and satisfying core gameplay loop. Starship Troopers Extermination is a great game in early access, just wait until the promised soontm class overhaul (Update, literally tomorrow it releases) Robocop Rogue City was an absolute blast and I'm now on the Terminator game they made, also great. Ready or Not is an excellent game and I cannot recommend enough System Shock remake is a great experience (soon to be updated, the 11th of this month). And this is just what I have got around to, looking forward to some real bangers like En Garde and later on releases like Space Marine 2.

I've always subscribed to the idea that the demons are horrors from somewhere we just don't fully understand or comprehend, using both magic and technology together, they also appear to either collect, capture, torture or consume souls implied by the agonised faces in the walls. Why do they have flesh and blood? Why do they have organs? Same reason as us, whilst they may just be forces of malice and evil personified, they're still basically animals/people (there is an intelligence there, building weapons/temples). Almost like purpose built animals/people/golems, whatever made them did so with purpose and the organs are basically like components to a machine to keep em running. I mean if you think about it, what is more horrifying than a monstrous brutish evil creature coming to not only kill and torture you but also devour you too? The murder and violence is terrible enough but now it has a biological imperative to do such things to you. The technology based monsters? Enhancements made by whatever cruel intelligence conjured them, or in the case of things like arachnotrons they probably made it themselves or repurposed UAC tech according to the manual. The more magical creatures like Pain Elemental are in the name, like a fire elemental from fantasy, raw energy, magically given form (the energy being pain). Do they reproduce? No, I reckon they just get made. They're magically conjured from evil energy, maybe built in vats (like a golem), they're essentially produced over being reproduced (which is why they are all the same malicious thing). Maybe the SpiderMastermind makes Arachnotrons or maybe they split off like horrifying tumors, maybe they just get grown in a vat, made by twisted magics from Why do some have "holes"? Waste from devouring victims. I think we're going too deep though, because it's like asking why demons in any setting are what they are. They're fantasy sci-fi, they're both aliens and demons and it don't need much thinking about, the disbelief of magic in a world where literal hell exists.

Decino just made fun of/ parodied midnight for April fools.
mrthejoshmon replied to DiceByte's topic in Doom General
Solid take to be honest. He ain't like a prick or a bad dude or anything like that, just his videos are kinda high key ass, from little I've watched he seems to deliver it with no enthusiasm, is as cookie cutter YouTube lame as humanly possible (Probably has a Raid sponsorship) and is sort of poorly informed and researched. Big whoop, guy's just still a fuckin regular ass dude bro, seems chill as fuck, just wish he made better shit. Also how many times we gotta bring bro up, we get it his vids ain't great. -
I know status updates don't entirely work, but I ain't got nowhere else to post this shiiieeet

I think it was an earlier rougher version that added to the overall jankiness, but yeah that's the fella.

Did a quick Google search for you, man that brought up some nostalgic results (I even found some of my embarrassing past!): Thy Holds of Hell is certainly garbage. Laura Beyer's Doom is one of the worst Doom related things I have played that required money (that I never gave it). Literally anything by Giulio Galassi Squishy's Monster Bag wasn't very good originally, not sure how it went after the overhaul that did or did not happen. Mattbratt's Level Pack was wank, is wank, always will be wank. Doom JR is a masterpiece, honest. DTS-T is poorly designed, poorly voiced and just all around a bad time. Swan Fox, if you find a copy send me one because I lost mine. Nazi Auferstehung can swallow a load. Playmasters and it's invisible fucking crushers. Plutonia 3, no really. Final Doom Return of the Evil God, with a title like that what did you expect? Honestly I could keep going, I will not,

Who's your favourite female character in video games?
mrthejoshmon replied to Mai Shiranui's topic in Everything Else
My point is that it's drastically different in every single way to the previous entries and could absolutely be it's own fresh title rather than a sequel. Granted, it is literally about Baldur's Gate, but so was Dark Alliance, it could be Baldur's Gate: [subtitle here] and upset slightly less people. Hell they could've just called it Baldur's Gate like Doom did, the point being its strange that the 3rd entry is such a monumental switch from the rest (literally a different genre of game). But it's a minor complaint from me, doesn't stop it being good, still a 5/5. -
You think too much about people thinking about you. I have been there, I believe one of the best things I did was shed the notion you are thought about. It isn't that you do not matter. It isn't that you do not exist. It isn't that you are forgotten. It just quite simply is that everyone has something going on, they have more immediate things to worry about, the blissful realisation that it doesn't matter that you are not being thought of is so very liberating, it is normal. You feel underappreciated due to a lack of recognition for your works perhaps? Really you shouldn't create for recognition, you should create to make what you want to exist, you will only enjoy your works when you become your audience. Focus upon yourself, only then will you find peace.

Yeah, we back, we so back.

BG3 is a good game, in terms of mechanics, gameplay and almost everything involved in actually playing it, I think it's fantastic. With it actually being a Baldur's Gate sequel? Nah, it ain't anything like previous entries and takes some mega liberties with the source material. They're like, entirely seperate entities from eachother almost entirely. Great games, strange choice of it being a sequel. -

I thought that was really out of place too, a lot of returning characters from BG 1 and 2 are up to the oddest shit in BG3 -
5>3>4>DMC>1>2 I love Devil May Cry, which is a miracle as I started with 2, believe it or not, yet I had good memories of 2 (rose tinted glasses off, it's fucking shit but you can play as Trish so...). I think, if anything was to be done with it at all, it needs a from the ground re-imagining. DMC Reboot is a perfectly fine playing game, the story and presentation sucks. DMC4 is clearly unfinished but still very solid, although playing as Vergil and doing the same maps twice blows ass however playable Trish and Lady more than makes up for it. Not a massive fan of the first game, hasn't aged well and could really do with the remaster treatment for the gameplay at the very least. 5 is peak, nothing better. 3 is pretty good, big fan of Vergil's campaign even if you just fight red Vergil instead of Dante, the only reason it isn't better than 5 is that the version I played was limited as hell, you couldn't swap styles on the fly or have more than 4 weapons (2 guns 2 melee), therefore very limited.

WRATH: Aeon of Ruin (a new game from 3D Realms)
mrthejoshmon replied to Man of Doom's topic in Everything Else
So, I have just recently completed Wrath and I haven't had propper internet (still don't), so I haven't seen any of the discourse (if there is any?) or reception the game has received. So as a quick question how is the general reception? Is there much discussion about the game? Anyway my thoughts: It's actually quite shit. Let me go into more detail -
I think there should be a Dune mod for Doom
mrthejoshmon replied to domthedoom's topic in Everything Else
With the RTS being brought up and having played them myself, perhaps it would lend itself very well to an FPS. More towards a large scale war like fps where you'd take the role of a grunt/fremen on the front lines defending or attacking spice extraction outposts or fortresses. It's a lot like 40K in the regards that it makes more sense as an RTS series yet would be a great FPS game if given to right people, it could happen but probably wouldn't. -
Thank you, I'll take a look at that when I get a chance and see if I do something similar.

I was just thinking, given that you can place things (entities) differently depending on difficulty chosen, I wonder what it could be like if you use something like blocking pillars or teleport destinations or player starts to make a level play out differently depending on difficulty. TimeSplitters 2 had different objectives and shorter levels depending on difficulty, I wonder if I can do something with that, maybe use Keens or something.

Me once again pledge allegiance to Grungo project if started, me work on maps. With that said it is more than possible, I can already think of a cheap and dirty method I used in Doom 2016 SnapMap which was to have every monster death add to a counter, once the counter reached the desired amount the next event triggered (in this case, the exit opening). I haven't messed with ACS or ZScript much but I bet it could work just as simple as that (difficulty settings would be a little hurdle but I digress). I would try to throw together a demo but I don't have actual internet until the 27th so you'd be waiting a while.

You have literally failed to demonstrate a single thing you have listed and instead have achieved superhuman irony levels by doing the exact opposite. Well done, I salute you.

If you lament the lack of something yet refuse to be involved in its creation then you are only failing yourself. What I'm saying is: Get it started. -
I do not spend time adding difficultly settings to my maps just for some chud to come in and die to UV and complain it is too hard. My design ethos when making levels is: Easy is there to help struggling people get through it Normal is designed to regularly play it UV is there to challenge myself If you are struggling with the hard difficulty, it's because I literally designed it for the creator to struggle. Play normal.
