  1. The main issue with Blood for the uninitiated is indeed down to what the difficulty does. A lot of games from the period just had enemy and item counts swap out for varied difficulty, Blood modifies almost every aspect from enemies and items to health pools, accuracy, reaction times and even abilities. Blood's Ultra-Violence is closer to our Hideous Destructor.
  2. I work in retail. How do I feel? HATE. LET ME TELL YOU HOW MUCH I'VE COME TO HATE THIS JOB SINCE I BEGAN TO WORK THERE. THERE ARE 90 THOUSAND MILES OF NERVES UNDER MY FLESH THAT FILL MY BODY. IF THE WORD HATE WAS ENGRAVED ON EACH NANOANGSTROM OF THOSE TENS OF THOUSANDS OF MILES IT WOULD NOT EQUAL ONE ONE-BILLIONTH OF THE HATE I FEEL AT MY JOB AT THIS MICRO-INSTANT FOR MY JOB. HATE. HATE.
  3. When I review it and give it 5/5. No metric outside of this matters. Jokes aside, vague metrics for a vague question: Having it work It be engaging to play Having good level design Being able to actually make meaningful progress Story making sense is nice. Can/will elaborate more later
  4. I was born in 1996. In terms of growing up, I was there for the latter day Playstation, I was there for the PS2, the Xbox, I got to experience the wonders of Jungle music... We had the Backstreet Boys (and some other great music, mainly Backstreet Boys fucking fight me), we had some of the best shows on TV, some of the greatest films and had the Advent of Sky and Freeview (UK) from old analogue tech. All of this and we still got to play outside, we still went and lived our childhoods on parks (that are now long since gone), I was there for YouTube's early days. I was there for so much cool ass shit. I was born so in the right fucking time man.
  5. Luckily I preserved mine. And boy oh yikes, it is one hell of a ZDoom abomination.
  6. A lot of great examples already brought up. The thing bothering me the most is the quote about shooters passed 2000, there's so many interesting shooters from post 2000 like TimeSplitters, Black, Necrovision, XIII, EYE Divine Cybermancy... Hell I'd even say RAGE or even Borderlands were unique enough to be noteworthy. Me thinks you've just been fed nonsense. Hell there's shooters releasing now that aren't even "retro shooters" that are well worth the time, like Trepang2 and Severed Steel (which still gets updated).
  7. I always have a modded Morrowind save on the go, it's such a great game to just wander in and chill out with. - Found out I have been sleeping on Empire Total War, gunpowder Total War games are something incredible, nothing beats the feeling of a well structured line flanking and converging on the enemy. Already conquered half of America as my homeland (United Kingdom) and I must say I have found a new love for strapping red coats...
  8. Haven't ever had an interaction with a real firearm but I can appreciate a good looking weapon. Favourite off look alone are the ill fated OICW range, most notably the XM29 just for it's bizarre retro future look.
  9. Whilst talking about inconsistencies with enemies, I think the Phantasms are the coolest enemy out the lot, maybe not fun to fight but the shrieking horror that is the encounter wins from rule of cool alone. One thing also is the zombies, they play 2 louder more distinct sounds when properly killed and the more perceptive of us will cotton onto that real quick. A lot of Blood's roster is figuring out who works how and the best way to flatten them, examples like 6 flares for gargoyles finishes them nicely, butchers are slow and the aerosol can works wonders, the explosions sends shit packing so don't throw it behind the cerberus... It's quite nuanced, I like it, except the Stone Gargoyles fuck those DPS checks.
  10. The greatest failure in this thread was that none of you corrected me, it isn't Cheogh, it's the Stone Gargoyle, which funny enough has more HP than Cheogh. I am disappointed in the lack of all your's (all of you's? This is a grammar massacre God damn) usual vigilance, disgraceful.
  11. When they come into my room. No, I will see you downstairs, you cannot enter the gamer dojo, not out of spite but out of shame.
  12. Blood has some great map designs and interesting set pieces (like crashing a train, infiltrating a haunted ship, spooky hotels, demonic funhouses...) and I didn't struggle with the game too much... Until the expansions, then that's the buttfucking you been waiting for. I swear to God I see Cheogh one more time I am going to lose it, I am sick and tired of fighting 400 tesla cultists just for my reward to be Cheogh again.
  13. Easy, before. My favorite wads are 90's/00's era products like Icarus or Rebirth.
  14. I have vague memories of a dream about a Doom level that does not exist, yet, maybe. It was years ago, details are spotty, but I remember an orange sky to red cloudy sky (with mixes of pink between the clouds, real cartoon arid desert sunset shit). It wasn't particularly filled out (or I'm forgetting it) but I believe it was mostly sandy environment. There was a ramp that led to an area with pillars that had a cyberdemon fight you from a pyramid that had an indent in it (for the cyberdemon to stand on). Egyptian styled textures. I do not remember much but the striking visual of a pyramid with a cyberdemon against the orange, red and pink sunset sky sticks with me and I want to bring it to life one day, the sky was a very Spyro PS1 skybox style (see something like Dr Shemp's skybox for example) and the textures were realistic styled orange/light brown stone mixed with darker brown bricks. Again, striking image but not much else is remembered, granted my dreams are usually a string of hardly connected nonsense so it could just be that one shot.
  15. Sounds like you a bitch. Glorious cool soft powder mountains Wonderful clean aesthetic Harsh conditions sort out weak from the strong Not me, couldn't imagine not enjoying the wonders of whimsically frolicking through the soft winter wonderland Too cold? Just warm up 5 head

I think that the starting area is too intense for the gameplay I had planned for it, I think I'll add an additional starting area to ease the player into the map for a more friendly start instead of throwing them in the deep end (I want people to enjoy themselves).

  17. Grungo has interesting idea, I would like to see this done with both Corridor 7 and Witchaven (just because Witchaven but good is a deep dark fantasy for me). If project starts, me join team.
  18. Did you make a shit wad as a joke or are you just that insecure about your mapping ability?
  19. Just got over Covid again for like the third time, God I love breathing so much.
  20. You know how we shit on Sandy maps? He'd probably be catching a bit of a break.
  21. Secrets are secrets. If you get bent out of shape because you missed an optional area/item that is literally your problem.
  22. Easy, go back in time and kill John Carmack. Then go back in time to stop yourself killing Carmack. Nothing ill could come of this what so ever, I promise.

    Getting very close

  24. I've always preferred Fiddy, even if he's a bellend.
