  1. Whitemare MAP15 Warning, there's a lot of wandering around not knowing what to do next.
  2. I briefly watched his Rats in the Walls, "Chaos Zone" and Bitter Herb reviews. They're all reasonable enough. I also happened to catch the end of his Black Gate and Doorway to Quake reviews as a result, which were an amusing juxtaposition in that the map he bagged on for being too much of an iD rip-off was not the literal re-creation of an iD map. I get why, but it's still amusing. If he dissed The Canyon or nataS ot etubirT, though, we shall have to disagree. I like those maps a lot.
  3. I'm seeing references to an MM "trilogy", which is not a thing that exists. Requiem was a standalone project. It is not an MM project. Nor is it a TNT project. Project coordination for both MM2 and Requiem was done via email, with files generally loaded to and from an FTP site. Levels came in when they came in and were played (or not) by those that wanted to I'm confident that TiC at least played all the MM2 maps as they got them, and quite possibly also did play the maps in continuous. I expect they also tried the maps on co-op. Requiem lacked the same level of coordination, and particularly at the end maps were thrown in wherever there were gaps. I very much doubt anyone played all 32 levels (or even the main 30) continuous before release. As far as mid 90s play culture went, I and my circle all played continuous. Opinions of saving varied; some of us saved often, others only at the start of the map. I do remember that Demonfear was expressly tested on both continuous and pistol start because by 1995 the latter model of play was definitely quite common.
  4. I am indeed, even if I don't always feel it :)
  5. There are under 1GB of WADs on my system, even including backup copies made by the map editor. I keep very little after I've played it.
  6. Thanks, though I feel I should raise the caveat that my focus is on honest first/blind reactions to maps. Worrying about the niceties of video production is not. Don't watch if you're going to be upset by me blundering about in the maps, or my breathing being too loud in a video, etcetera. I play Doom maps and happen to record myself doing it. I am not a video editor.
  7. Pretty much. It was all pretty loose, particularly in the final "Chris is just gonna release whatever he has" stage of things.
  8. Not that I can still access. It was 25 years ago and all done on email. By modern standards, i don't think any of the maps were "properly playtested". Chris posted a map to the mailing list and people played it or they didn't. Casali's was no different to any other map, in that regard. It was pretty much the only map to provoke much conversation - mostly around "why is there an IoS in it". (Edit: also there were objections to the inclusion of SS soldiers) But it didn't get any special playtesting attention. Other maps did get some feedback, particularly earlier in the project, but there was no debate around them. As far as playtesting I personally was involved in, I definitely played both Orin's map and Bill's map when they were first shared, and Bill played all of mine. The final release was never holistically playtested though, and it shows. I also wouldn't be surprised if in at least a couple of cases Chris may have used the wrong versions of maps. We weren't exactly using stringent version control!
  9. This is simply not accurate. It would however to accurate to say that the compiled WAD was wholly unplaytested.
  10. Zed The use of 'zee' is becoming more common in Australia due to US media influence.
