Looking to buy sealed Doom Mailorder for $15,000
Nevander replied to billythekid44's topic in Doom General
Dang I didn't know Nigerian princes were Doomers. That's pretty rad. You still got it? I'll pay you $10,000.01 for it. -
Two hours?! Just to talk about a dumb odd sound effect from a Minecraft ripoff uhh... game? I'd rather put my head in a beehive.

A friend of my dad at his work was like hey have you heard of or played Doom. Dad says, no, sounds cool. Friend loads it onto floppies. Buys a computer with the right specs, brings it home and loads it up. Then I got to watch him play until I was old enough to. Rest is history.

Duke Nukem Forever 2001 Restoration Project [WE WANT YOU!]

To be fair, what the hell was their vision? Did they ever have a single clear one? -
I tire of such questions. Just enjoy Doom.

I wouldn't change a thing. It's a secretly powerful weapon which in the right hands is devastating. It requires intimate knowledge of the secrets and secret levels to power up. The majority of players and even video game reviewers have no idea the upgrades exist and call it useless. Little do they know...

Getting a perfect character in Oblivion. Careful planning of every level up, only increasing the skills you need until your max level, followed by days of power leveling minor skills. End up with 100 in every attribute and skill.

Casually play through the episode at a relaxed pace, getting 100% stats. Probably takes a few hours. Add an hour or so for walking between map locations. There's your answer.

If You're Going To Start On An Unreal Tournament Game, Get 2004
Nevander replied to A Nobody's topic in Everything Else
I prefer UT99 to 2004. I love that 99 feels more like Unreal Gold. Feels grittier too whereas 2004 started to become a little much. -
Science-y Question for the Science Geeks
Nevander replied to Caffeine Freak's topic in Everything Else
What stood out to me was that they said ice packed pint glass. They would wash the glasses, rinse, and throw the ice in for the next drink. There may be drops of water left from the rinse. Ice, under the right circumstances, can adhere to some surfaces. A tiny bit of water combined with very cold ice can sort of "glue" the ice to the surface. Some surfaces don't even need the water. If you get an ice cube fresh out of the freezer and put it on a paper towel, you'll find your ice cube and paper towel have binded together. Wait for the ice to start to melt and they can unbind. I don't know what the scientific term or explanation is, but I think this is what's happening. It's about ice temperature and water levels. -

Duke Nukem Forever 2001 Restoration Project [WE WANT YOU!]
Nevander replied to indigotyrian's topic in Everything Else
The difference is that the remake was a full planned game by what is now Interceptor. They didn't have the rights to do a complete remake. This on the other hand is a restoration project based on a leaked build of a broken mess of an unfinished product that can't make money and only a thin slice of the gaming market is even aware of. If this got leaked years ago closer to the 2011 DNF release, it would most definitely be a different situation. Then the leak would be turning people away from buying the Gearbox release. The dust has settled now from DNF release and the leak is everywhere as well. Pointless endeavor and likely would cost Gearbox more money than to ignore it. -
Omg. That looks so good. Hope it's the real deal.

What was the biggest BS death you had during a run this year?

I got stuck on an Imp's fat head while walking over an edge to drop down and get away from a Cyberdemon and then got a rocket where the sun don't shine. -

Hello and welcome Rosie! It's nice to meet you and have you join our community here! I'm Nev but my name's Chris. How you got into Doom reminds me of how I did as well. I was born in 1991. My dad was really into PC games around the time Doom had come out. Friend of his at work gave him a copy of the game and he got it running on our computer at home. I had to watch him play before I could. When I finally did, I knew I had found my favorite video game forever. Been a Doomer ever since! And now I design levels and TCs for it. Do you have a favorite map? Prefer Doom, Doom 2, or Final? Have you played Doom 64? I didn't start mapping until 2016. There's a lot of options out there of how to make your levels. We would all love to try out your creations and offer the best constructive criticisms and tips on designing! We love new mappers! I also love the classic Half Life games. Those really changed the genre when Valve busted that out. Can't go wrong with Quake. Did you ever play Unreal? That one was groundbreaking too for the genre. I hope you enjoy being here with this awesome community for our favorite game franchise!

I get that leaking is ultimately bad because the content was accessed and leaked illegally, but honestly leaks can be seen as a good thing. It allows us to see the work they are doing. Constructive criticisms. Critiques. Build up the hype. I don't get why it's such a "nightmare" for developers. It's obviously unfinished, but even still it looks solid. Not encouraging leaks, but rather saying when they do happen, consider what it means. Room for improvement and showing off the work they've done.
