You could check the display options for the hardware renderer in the settings menu. On my monitor, I was able to navigate through the dim light without much trouble, but I'm guessing everyone's monitor settings are different. You could try adjusting the brightness or gama settings and see what helps. It looks like the map is set to 'dark' for rendering style, so I'm not sure if zdoom let's you change that or not.

It's cryptic and unintuitive (what?!), but I'd also recommend that normies play on 'nightmare' difficulty; it drastically reduces the challenge of the map.

Have you tried the zdoom mod, Vanilla Essence? You can play GZDoom with true color and then press a button to immediately force the hardware renderer into a vanilla appearance customized to your liking. Edit: Yes, House of Leaves is a thrilling read.

Actually that would have been good information for the initial post. There's a difference between making an account and posting "I want to make a book, anyone want to help?" vs "I've written several books—as seen here—anyone interested in contributing?"

I don't like the idea of soliciting free contributions to a book... but I also don't agree that every work created in the community should be free. I like the idea of a Doom coffee table book and if @SLPerrin wants to write it and sell it, he should... there's nothing wrong with profiting from your work, even in a hobby community. My only objection is soliciting people to help write and then selling it. If he wanted to interview people, get statements ask them to fill out surveys or questionnaires that would appear in his book, I don't think there's anything wrong with that, either. Something just feels wrong about asking for contributors and then selling the work... especially since you'll need to start getting documents signed about what their compensation is if you're going to start selling something... you don't want them coming back later if the book makes a lot of money and demanding more because you're using their intellectual property.

I don't think it's a scam, I just think it's exploitative. This is largely a hobby forum... When money starts changing hands, it raises a lot more questions about the rights of an individual's intellectual property.

I worry a little that the first shot feels more like an entirely new location instead of a remastered variant of the original... Gone is the brutalist look of the first building. Second is clearly the same, just more pleasing to the eye.

Is there a more creative use than Batman Doom? The "Brain" fires a "Soul Cube" towards the only spawn point in the map and, in the process of traveling to its destination, the repurposed cube is constantly spawning the "Boss Brain" wall of explosions thus creating a moving wall of death simulating the explosion of the Axis chemical plant. Un-fucking-believable use of all the final boss codepointers.
