Currently Rainfall, Macro and Hourglass are reserved for a variety of specific projects, so would appreciate people avoiding using these specific MIDI's until those projects see release. :) I've written one more MIDI since releasing this album, which is available for use. A very unusual track with a focus on time signature changes, intentional use of dissonance and generally invoking an off-kilter feeling.

what are you working on? I wanna see your wads.
Dragonfly replied to everennui's topic in WAD Discussion
Very hard to tell. From a cursory glance, not at all though. The busy-ness of a layout is often defined not only by the layout itself but the way it plays based on thing placement. If you keep the combat relatively simple or slow, the player will feel more time to orient themselves and combat any complexity the layout offers, but if you're dropped in the middle of this with combat from all directions, the player will likely get overwhelmed and initially lost while they deal with what's thrown at them. -
Endless's WAD Reviews - DBP22: Biotech is Godzilla
Dragonfly replied to Endless's topic in WAD Discussion
I am.. uh... yeah. Speechless! Thank you for this review, @Endless! I really appreciate it, and I'm sure the rest of the team behind Eviternity do too (I'll be sharing a link momentarily). Congrats on the 50th review milestone, I'm honored to have taken that slot! -
"New year, new URE" - URE:E2 - E2M2 up!
Dragonfly replied to Zylinderkatze's topic in WAD Releases & Development
I confess I've not read the entire thread so perhaps you've already thought of this, or ruled it out, but seeing all the problems you're encountering with vanilla limits I have to ask - are custom and/or composite textures out of the project's scope? For example, the rear on the truck could likely lose several lines/sectors by using a composite texture alone. :) -

Go for it! The community can always benefit from more music, plus it's a tonne of fun.

Thanks guys! :) To answer your question Doritos, I used Sekaiju to compose all of these tracks. I'm really happy to hear the percussion was the standout, since drums are the instrument I'm most proficient in playing IRL!

.MID the way id did - Doom 2 Soundtrack Replacement [RELEASED]
Dragonfly replied to Doomkid's topic in Mods & Resources
Couldn't agree more. -
Thanks Bridge! Shocked stress is up there, that one's the only "speedmidi" in the pack so to speak. Glad you enjoyed them!

Oh it's that cheap? Not a problem then. I assumed it was like 10x that, heh. Well, we'll gauge everyone's response first! Thank you!! I think it might be the "established" thing coupled with where I posted it... I totally dropped a shameless self plug with an @everyone tag on my discord server. 😅 (EDIT, I realise I forgot to comment on part of this: As for them feeling like they're for specific maps, well, they're for specific map themes in my mind. I approach the music the same way I approach mapping, and ask myself what sense of place I'm trying to convey, if any. I've made maps previously based on a midi choice made prior to making the map - one such example is Eviternity's MAP11. I'm approaching the musical side the same way, but reversed.) :)
-
Thanks! Well... Maybe yes, maybe no? I'd personally wait to see what other people's reactions are to the music first - if it's a flop it'd be a bit amiss to immortalise this work on something like Spotify. :P But if reactions are good, I'd certainly be open to putting them on spotify if anyone can advise a way to do so for free? I don't care about gaining money, just not losing it. :)

There's a new kid in the music scene! These MIDI's are primarily composed for use in various Doom maps. I do request that you contact me here or via one of the methods listed in the text file BEFORE you use my MIDI's though - some of these are bespoke for specific projects, and I'd like to reserve them for the projects they're composed for until they have been released! I've decided that to make "releasing" my MIDI's easier, instead of reuploading them one at a time, I'll release them in albums. This is the first of those! Included is a collection of ten MIDI tracks, in a variety of genres, lengths, and of probably-mixed quality; for a total of 43 minutes and 50 seconds of audio. I'm still learning the ropes when it comes to composition, and as is the case with any art form, it's a slow and steady learning curve. I hope to continuously improve as I go, so if any of the many musical masters of this forum has feedback, please by all means share your opinions! I hope you enjoy listening to these and/or using these in your maps as much as I enjoyed writing them! Because surfing over monster's heads, being able to skip entire maps by a single jump (lol map07), being able to aim at sniper-position monsters with freelook despite how autoaim would normally enforce a crowd of monsters closer to you to be shot first, being able to crouch to avoid any fireball you want, etc is totally not a clear advantage. Again, I'm an advocate for playing how you want, but these small extra features are very much a gamechanger.

It's not playing as intended and using an advantage that shouldn't be available in normal gameplay, so, yes. But play how you enjoy the most. :P

.MID the way id did - Doom 2 Soundtrack Replacement [RELEASED]
Dragonfly replied to Doomkid's topic in Mods & Resources
I was only referring to Joe's submission. Though some others aren't very "TWID" per se, they certainly qualify a lot more than the aforementioned track. -
.MID the way id did - Doom 2 Soundtrack Replacement [RELEASED]
Dragonfly replied to Doomkid's topic in Mods & Resources
With all due respect, what does that even mean? This is a quirky, offbeat, dissonant mess. Nothing about it even offers a skeleton? See below sekaiju preview of Joe's midi. Also I feel if someone is going to take on the task of having an off-kilter uneasy feeling akin to joe's midi, it should be used in map24. The chasm is to doom maps what dissonant randomness is to music - it goes against conventions but some people still like it. To solidify what I mean - go play MAP11 with Joe's midi as-is. It feels so, so much like a joke when used here. Now go play MAP24. It.... kinda sorta works here. I apologise for the seemingly hostile nature of this post but come on man! Edit/addendum: Also, this is MIDTWID. Not a single thing about this midi, except the fact it's midi format, fits the TWID criteria. -
About time, honestly! Glad to see this out there for everyone to use. :)

As above. It's easy to get by here, just don't be unfathomably stupid or hostile and you'll be just fine.
