  1. A playthrough of magnificent UAC Invasion: The Supply Depot by DooMknight:
  2. Finally had a chance to play this and, let me tell you, yours is most certainly one of the most visually impressive GZDoom-specific maps out there. The variety of environments, how imaginative and well crafted they are is just jaw-dropping. Exploring the canyon after leaving the base was my favourite bit in this journey. So it's a bit unfortunate that combat doesn't exactly follow suit. You open the door or enter the area and the enemies are... just there. The final fight was probably the biggest offender in that regard with a bunch of enemies in the arena and it all feeling a bit too chaotic and random. But the looks... the looks make up for it. I don't think I ever felt such an awe as when leaving the base and entering the canyon area with its magnificent view. My most memorable Doom moment for sure.
  3. I am one of those people who played the original release and I think you're being hard on yourself. It was a solid offer with some memorable setpieces. As a further example of that, playing this remaster I realised that three years later and I still remember the map layouts. Having said that, the desire to improve is commendable. And the end result is definitely worth it. The changes, when compared to original, are jaw-dropping. I only wish the performance in some parts of the third map was better.
  4. Playthrough of the wonderfully creative The Demon Blade by DragonsForLunch
  5. The Demon Blade is one of the better GZDoom-specific maps released this year and a great adventure in its own right that sends you on a quest through abandoned villages, catacombs, forests and haunted dungeons to find the titular Demon Blade. Semi-realistic, moderate detailing and great gameplay.
  6. Always had a soft spot for semi-realistic maps and yours certainly delivers. Nice detailing, cohesive design, several unique "biomes" that you get to explore and just the right difficulty. Definitely one of the better maps released this year. Great work!
  7. Playthrough of the 'Graveyard Shift' by @Batandy from Spooktober Community Mapping Project

    Realm Of Demonology

Honestly, the current rating for this WAD feels pretty unfair, but this what you get when people who do not appreciate the genre volunteer to judge it. Realm Of Demonology may not be as visually impressive as Sunlust or as tightly balanced as Rush, but it is more than competent in what it does. And with as thematically interesting maps as unholy cathedral of MAP03: Irreligious, or satanic temple of MAP05: Darkness In Paradise, or even the whole sheer volume of slaughter as in the final map of this episode it can surely hold your attention.

    Chainworm Kommando

A highly entertaining episode for ZDoom based engines. While the very first level of the set is probably the least interesting both in its gameplay and detailing, the rest of the WAD quickly picks up the pace with beautiful, yet non-excessive level design, and nicely paced difficulty which is probably on par with the IWAD that the mapset is designed for. Most of the maps can be completed in under ten minutes, while the final two will probably take a little bit longer. And while it's by no means made of the same material as many of the Cacowards winners, missing on this very nice episode isn't something I can agree on.

    Rainbow dash HUD

If you're an intellectually challenged infantile pillock, then this "thing" is for you.

    Innocence X

Despite what user ratings for this might suggest, this is a really solid Doom 64/PSX Doom reinterpretation with the vanilla-like (although being Doom in UDMF format) level design that is oozing in dark and oppressive atmosphere. Sure, you won't find anything new here if you've already gone through PSX Doom TC or Doom 64: Retribution. But what Innocence X does, it does well.

    The Deimos Incident

Incredibly good and imaginatively looking mapset, made using only stock Doom resources. Have you played "Warp House" by Ed Cripps? That's the closest comparison in its looks that I can come up with. There are no slopes though, so the mapset will not ruin the performance of your old PC. The difficulty is a bit higher than The Shores of Hell episode that this wad replaces, with combat mostly happening in semi-tight halls and corridors with your usual traps and ambushes that are although expected in this kind of environments but are never frustrating.
