  1. I don't see how the first and third choices are mutually exclusive. I haven't seen many playthroughs of my maps (haven't really released many maps, though...) but I always appreciate honest thoughts on the presentation and flow. If they're able to throw in some witty banter I'd appreciate that, though I've yet to come across any recordings of my map being played by someone making an effort to be funny. Not all that interesting in watching people play maps that aren't mine since I'd rather experience those myself if I ever get around to it.
  2. Love it! Watching this game take shape as you've worked on it has been quite an experience. I like the sounds you've used so far, though yeah, it'd be better to have wholly unique sounds for each enemy type to ensure that all audio cues are distinct and readable. Enemy designs are all fantastic and I'm looking forward to getting to fight them. Wasn't expecting to see enemies get thrown around by knockback, looks like a fun mechanic. The weapon designs are great, though the sounds could use a little more "oomph". That or there's a slight delay in the sound of that last video that neuters the impact. The lightning gun with the circular saw on the end is rad as hell.
  3. That makes me a bit more optimistic. I can't help but be skeptical that the quality may drop significantly over the course of seven movies.
  4. My brother gave me the Tremors 7 Movie Collection. First movie's a masterpiece. Expressed interest in watching the second one at some point. Didn't think they'd gone and made SEVEN.
  5. Let's see... It's a Wonderful Life National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation A Muppet Christmas Carol Disney's A Christmas Carol (the Jim Carrey version) It's Christmas, Charlie Brown! Shrek the Halls Die Hard Home Alone Home Alone 2: Lost in New York Elf It's a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie Claus Probably a few others that aren't coming to mind at the moment. All great movies nonetheless. Never understood the hype for "A Christmas Story". When I saw it as a kid it didn't make me laugh and when I watched it again a few years ago I felt profoundly bored.
  6. Hopefully a later build gets leaked, particularly the one that we got the footage of the working portal from. Whoever's doing this, keep at it!
  7. My parents are getting me a LEGO set. It's the one that has the Dark Troopers in it. I'm not sure why there's a LEGO set with Dark Troopers, but gimme! Did they appear in a new show or something or did someone at LEGO just play Dark Forces and decided that the Dark Trooper deserved its own minifigure? Anyways, I'm getting my brother an XBox gift card and Toffeefe, my mom asked for Cards Against Humanity for some reason (she doesn't have a raunchy sense of humour, so it feels like a weird gift for her), and my dad is getting a book from each of us (Stephen King and John Grisham always have such perfect timing whenever we need to get my dad something).
  8. Those new enemies look great! I haven't been super active on Doomworld but seeing these little updates has been a nice highlight of my visits. Meow.
  9. Welp, there goes the last point of interest I had in getting an Oculus... Ahem, "Meta" headset. Guess I'll go with the Index after all. Though, even if he'd stayed, Mark's antics during the past few years had already killed their chances of receiving my money anyway. I'm glad to see Carmack leave this dumpster fire, regardless of his reasons for doing so. If his focus is still on VR, I hope he's able to find a home that lets him really spread his wings instead of... whatever the hell Meta thinks they're doing. Trying to make video games an extension of all the aspects of life that people use video games to escape from, I guess? I hope Mark doesn't get his head out of whatever crevice he's jammed it into so that Meta can crash and burn completely, though with how deeply he's seemingly inserted it, I'm not sure a course correction is even possible unless Meta as a company gets decapitated. Not sure if that metaphor makes sense.
  10. I find it interesting that so many here are so quick to decry and dismiss any validity in the concept of a monarchy when I've never been convinced that democracy or whatever other governmental power structure one supports is any better. While the idea of a monarch being appointed and gaining authority via God or some other religious institution does not resonate with me, I do not see the very idea of someone being raised from birth to rule as inherently heinous in and of itself. In my opinion, those who seek power are rarely those who deserve it and those who are deserving will rarely seek it. All I need to do is take a cursory glance at any given selection of democratically elected leaders to confirm this position for myself. Will a lot of bad people end up on the throne? Absolutely, but not every person that wears a crown will abuse their power and intentionally bring suffering to their subjects. If my assertion on those who seek power is correct, then it honestly seems less likely to me that genuinely good-hearted leaders will be sworn in under democratic practices, but as democracies tend to have rather short terms the statistical probability that a few will get in from time to time does shoot up. As for colonialism and imperialism, yeah, those are indefensible from a moral standpoint but I don't see how they're intrinsically tied to monarchies either. It will be hard to convince me that colonialism doesn't happen within modern democratic systems, especially when most modern democratic powers were built on colonial foundations. Individual wars under traditional monarchies may have been much more common but I feel that is simply due to technological advances allowing fewer seats of power to control much larger regions in the modern day, which reduces the total number of world leaders and thus statistically decreases the chances for conflict. However, thanks to that same technological advance the conflicts that do happen are on a much larger scale and have much higher stakes. My basic thesis on government power structures, regardless of which flavour is chosen, is that it will only work if the right person is put in charge. Considering that some absolute monsters have been put in power by democracy and monarchy alike, I don't see how one is objectively superior to the other. The same is true of any government that follows some form of ranking system Anyways, I'm sure that plenty will want to argue with me but I'm honestly not interested in doing so. Am I ignorant and/or full of shit? Probably. I haven't named any specific leaders here since I'm not interested in arguing about the potential vices or virtues of any specific person. While I'm not convinced that democracy is any better than monarchy I am certainly complicit in and directly benefit from democratic power structures. Does that make me a hypocrite? I don't think so, but I could be wrong. As for the topic of the thread, I am saddened by Queen Elizabeth II's passing but I'm not familiar enough with King Charles III to make a judgement on him. The fact that I could have a casual conversation with my parents over who would make the better king, Charles or William, whilst living in a democratic country like Canada, is oddly comforting to me for some reason. My dad says William is the better pick and Charles should abdicate. I value life much too highly to celebrate the loss of one, even if it's someone I think the world would be better without. There is no evil, only misguidance. Obviously I don't put the Queen in that category, but it seems that many here do. May Queen Elizabeth II Rest Peacefully.
  11. I was gonna list half of my PS2 collection before noticing that this is only for PS1 games... I only have three PS1 games: Scooby Doo and the Cyber Chase Spider-Man Space Invaders 1999 I can wholeheartedly recommend Spider-Man ans Space Invaders, those games are great. Scooby Doo isn't very good, though, but it's playable I guess? Spider-Man is excellent, and probably been recommended tons of times already. Space Invaders 1999 is always a great time.
  12. When my phone vibrated this morning I was not expecting that news headline. Had I been with anyone else they probably would have been confused by me suddenly giving a salute out of nowhere.
  13. It was either a Gameboy Color or the PS2, don't remember which one I got first but it's probably the Gameboy. Both consoles are sitting within ten feet of me right now, though sadly my childhood PS2 doesn't work anymore. I dropped my GBC in a toilet once and it still works. Haven't played Doom on either of them, my first foray into Doom was on an old Windows '98 PC running Doom '95, specifically with Final Doom. Didn't get Doom on a console until I bought the BFG Edition for PS3.
  14. I recently got a more powerful laptop that can handle more modern games than my old one could. Bought the Tomb Raider bundle and am working my way through Rise of the Tomb Raider.
  15. https://www.eurogamer.net/square-enix-sells-off-western-studios-and-ip-including-tomb-raider-and-deus-ex Crystal Dynamics, Eidos Montreal and Square Enix Montreal, along with a number of franchises including Tomb Raider, Theif, Deus Ex and Legacy of Kain among others are being sold to Embracer Group for $300 000 000. Every major acquisition of this kind I've heard about in the games industry tends to amount to billions of dollars. My (admittedly limited) understanding of how these things are supposed to work does not at all compute with the absurdity of this. Like, is Tomb Raider not at least worth more than $300 000 000 on its own or something? And the icing on the ketchup and poprock cake, the money Square Enix is getting from this is apparently intended to be invested in the blockchain and NFTs. Like, that thing most gamers vocally despise and do not want and has garnered little to no success in the gaming market. That thing. Obviously, I am very confused about this and was excited to see what others here thought about it only to find that the thread hadn't been made yet. So, I'd like to hear what those who are more informed on these things than I have to say about this.
