True story - my aging PC actually did burst into flames when I tried running Doom 2016 on it (back in 2016). Graphics card just surrendered completely!

Just read on the official website that this was inspired by Doom 1993 - perhaps the glory kills/chainsaw kills bunny hopping will be toned down in this one? Got to say I was please to see hordes of enemies running at you as you now them down.....

Looks bloody brilliant fun from the trailer..... but I remember the Doom Eternal trailer looking like everything I wanted out of the game, and then they put in all the ammo/armor confetti and kind of ruined the atmosphere...... let's hope this one is as it looks!!

Doh! No sooner did I post this than I found the answer-so sorry!!!

Hi all - bit of an odd question for you: in Lzdoom (and another port as well I think) shotgun guys and zombies throw their guns or ammo in the air when they die. I realise that it is more 'realistic' than the weapon just appearing on the ground as per vanilla Doom, but I find it quite distracting! is there a way to disable it?? I can't find anything in the menus.... thanks in advance:)

As someone just commented, to be fair to Doom Eternal, it has an absolutely amazing combat loop: the gameplay is immersive and easy to get lost in for me. And the visual flair never distracts from the gameplay - you always know what you should be doing and where you should be going.

Yep - I physically threw myself out of my chair to dodge imp fireballs coming out of the dark corridors back in 93/94. The dark, the flickering lights, the imps quietly cackling in the distance......atmosphere .....never experienced like that before: it was new, visceral, and exciting.

Interesting thread! I absolutely love Doom Eternal, NGL, but not quite as much as the classics - and what you said is exactly why. At no point during DE (once you've gitted gud of course) is any enemy even mildly threatening. Challenging arenas for sure, but not 'Cyberdemon here gonna blow your brains out' threatening. It is very much like a fighting game with its moves, combos, power ups etc and zero exploration. Classic Doom also feels like it could be a 'place' where DE feels like a video game, which is ridiculous given the differences in technology. Love all the games but Classic is the best!

Ok thanks. Looks really good tho got to say!!

Looks good! Is it a wad or a pk3? (One I can use on my vita and 3ds, the other I can't!) ta

I can't believe I read the whole thread about the name rather than the actual mod 🤣🤣🤣. Anyway - love your vanilla mod so I'll def try this. The only thing that bugs me quite honestly is the green plasma balls for the plasma gun. I know it's the same ammo as the bfg, but it just feels wrong! Every plasma gun in every Doom game has blue plasma....

Doom Guy: Life in First Person -- by John Romero
Fuser Marucs replied to Xymph's topic in Doom General
I finished the book earlier - it was a really good read I thought. Nothing particularly astounding about the Doom/quake sections but his whole life has been interesting and it is told in a very readable way. Thoroughly enjoyed it tbh!
