The Dean of Doom series (companion thread)
TakenStew22 replied to Sunnyfruit's topic in Doom General
I remember playing Sigil 2 with a friend and we were stuck on m6 for so long because of the Cyberdemons and extremely limited resources. Really didn't like that map tbh. Felt like Romero was just being a little too mean there. -

That map 25 looked beautiful. Sometimes all a doom map needs is to have great combat and an amazing midi to make you feel like you're living the moment. -

Ignoring the argument going on about pistol starts, I actually do remember liking Requiem and the Momento Mori's. I guess 90's jankiness didn't bother me that much, classic maps just had that charm for me. In fact, I kinda miss the simpleness of them and wish more modern maps did more classic map playstyle instead of being gimmicky or slaughtery which seems to be the norm nowadays. -

I'm guessing this is the reason we haven't gotten another episode in awhile. Better late than ever. -

The fact that he broke character during the end of Okuplok speaks volumes of just how much of a titanic demon that map is. Creatively it's genius but I couldn't imagine any non-TASers having fun with maps like that. Kinda disappointed he didn't talk about Chillax though. I've watched some of Azuruish's TAS videos on that wad and every map looks... how should I put it... hundreds of times more sadistic than Map 29 from Community Chest 1. -
A friend told me this awhile ago, but apparently the green armor and blue armor have different armor values. Where the green armor absorbs 1/3 of damage and blue armor absorbs 1/2. In this case, if you grabbed the blue armor it is not recommended to pick up a green armor even after dropping to 99% or lower, because your armor value will be replaced by the weaker one. It's wise to pick up the green only after all armor is depleted or close to being depleted. https://doomwiki.org/wiki/Armors I can't believe I never knew this until now. I hope I remember this weird fact the next time I play Doom.

I kinda like bilinear filtering though. Not sure why, just looks pleasing for me I guess. -
SSG also has far less range. Doom's shotgun acts like a sniper lol. So yeah, SSG is way better overall but the normal shotty does have its uses especially if you want to just clear out a couple fodder and not waste 2 ammo.

My main problem is people thinking everyone has to join in and boycott these games and anyone who buys them is an idiot or shill or something. I'm not saying everyone is saying this for Doom rn but many people have said something similar for games/companies that have bad business practices or management. I just want to play games bro, I ain't gonna choose a side and go to war (unless it's Activision, but I still buy some of their games if they look fun to me).

Eternal is mixed on Steam now. Bunch of reviews saying to boycott and wishing they pirated it, etc. Did the other creators of the game even had anything to do with Mick though lol. Seems like people just shoving coal into the drama, Mick even said not to harass them or make it any worse but almost every recent review I saw has insults directed towards them. Like I hate what Marty did but they're literally doing what Mick told them not to do...

I never expected or wanted drama regarding Doom, but here we are. I'm too lazy to read the whole thing, but if Mick was really fucked over regarding the OST then I truly feel sad for him, and feel angry towards Marty if he truly did spread misinformation. Just wish we'll somehow have a happy ending for this arc.
