  1. Hi. I'm Larry, this is my brother, Darryl, and this is my other brother, Darryl. In all seriousness, welcome to all the new members!
  2. Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind This is a must-read for all fans of human history and sociology. The author (Yuval Noah Harari) introduces/explores many ideas about what caused humankind to spread from the cradle in Africa to virtually every part of the Earth. And he does it in an easy-to-read manner.

    Lucid Dreaming

I've had dozens of lucid dreams. But I have learnt that knowing you're dreaming and being able to control your dream are two very different things. In most of my lucid dreams I feel like I'm watching a movie, and I have no control over what's happening. This is particularly true of nightmares, which I realized a long time ago were not anything to be afraid of. To me, most of them simply felt like I was watching a horror movie. As a kid I might have been afraid of horror movies, but as an adult, not so much. Still, lucid dreams are interesting and entertaining.

  6. You lucky bastard. And, yes, they are f*ckin' awesome.
  7. And the always-awesome "Don't You Eat That Yellow Snow Suite":
  8. @Doom_Dude: "Burger Xing" - ha, ha! I am still grinning at that one.
  9. Technically (even un-technically, for that matter) it's a goat. []
  10. @BaileyTW: I take it you have an opossum as a pet. Good for you.
  11. I don't say this much, about anything, but that is ghastly. Princess or no princess, I ain't kissing that thing!
  12. Orange penguin imagining it's trying to light up a hot dog, believing it to be a curved cigar Ninja-ed by @Artman2004
  13. @Rince-wind: "Duck Nukem: 4 Feathers" "requires Doom 3". F*ckin' hilarious! Good one!
  14. @BaileyTW: If I had to have a rodent as a pet, I suppose it would be an opossum. [I know, I know. An opossum is a marsupial, not a rodent. But tell me that the animal in that picture doesn't resemble a large rat. A cute rat, but a rat nonetheless.]
  15. On topic: I'd say the toughest boss (not the same as the scariest) was the massive, building-sized fellow at the end of Serious Sam.
  16. I once worked for this fellow that had a double chin that would have put The Goblin King to shame. Now he was scary. Oh, wait! Your question really wasn't in an employment context, was it now? []
  17. Arachnid More specifically, Daemon Aranea or Daemon Arachnis
  18. I'd say my general music tastes are adequately documented in this thread. To summarize: Rock/Rock & Roll from the period between 1967 and 1978 (what some might call "Classic Rock"). Motown from the late 1960s to mid-1970s. (Arguably, this genre falls squarely within Rock/Rock & Roll.) Funk (which somewhat overlaps Rock & Roll and Motown) Contemporary blues (even though, for me, Robert Johnson remains the king despite playing early Delta blues on a ratty hollow-body guitar). Jazz: Big Band/Swing, Bebop (and, yes, the music from Cowboy Bebop), contemporary. I'm not a huge fan of avant-garde jazz, however. European/American classical music. Indian classical music (both Hindustani and Karnatak) My guilty additional pleasure is listening to disco music, which I despised when it was at its apex of popularity. I also now appreciate the musicality, especially the layering, of Britney Spears' Toxic, which I detested when it was a hit. In a similar vein, I hated The Police when they were big (even though I dragged myself to one of their concerts) but I quite like them now. Guilt? Kublai Khan knows no guilt.
